The Hunter X Hunter Thread (New anime series has begun!)

(While I still don’t agree with Sephiroth73003 that Kurapika is broken, I do agree that the drawback is actually relatively trivial to Kurapika given he’s been prepared to die since the very beginning and been taking high-risk moves that are likely to get him killed sooner than he would die of natural age. Still, it’s good to know that said drawback exists.)

Well, this is (finally) escalating quickly. Aren’t we still on the first day technically as well? I find it increasingly unlikely that no none of the Princes will die before the Whale ship gets to the mid-point island for the celebration. I wonder what the King’s spin will be if that does occur, especially since he must be anticipating at least some deaths among the Princes before that point; it would honestly be stupid not to do so.

I wonder who Kurapika will choose to talk to first. From what we know as the audience, talking to Zheng Lei first seems like it would be the best bet given that both Benjamin and Tubeppa/Tsubeppa already have it out for Kurapika. Still, it’s not like Kurapika knows that, and arguably the opposite is true given that it gives their malice towards him more of a pretext. Hmmm…

I am rather curious as to why this was your guess, though you were correct in that Vincent did seem to be Transmutation or, at least, that his Hatsu seemed like it was going to be. Is it because Benjamin was introduced wrestling a lion that he promptly killed?

Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of Benjamin’s soldiers were Reinforcers and if Benjamin himself was one just given his nature, even before Hisoka’s weirdly accurate personality test.

Guess what’s out.

(Geez. Almost missed this thread getting bumped.)

Well, good to know that I was correct about Zhang Lei being the most sensible person to talk to first even if Kurapika had to be countermanded by one of the previously unnamed maids. I do wonder why he wanted to talk to Benjamin first given that he had already been attacked. Hmmm…

Other than that, I chuckled at them having Shimano call Tubeppa/Tsubeppa a “he”, though I am not sure if that’s just keeping with calling even the female princesses “princes” or a straight translation error. I was also confused for a couple of seconds as to why Oito could see Zhang Lei’s Nen Beast, but I’m guessing it’s an indirect consequence of Kurapika transferring that dolphin ability to her.

When we see Benjamin’s soldiers on the boat on their way to dark continent they all look significantly smaller than Benjamin and somewhat human like in appearance, but when we first get a glimpse of them training in an earlier chapter (although we see them at a distance) they’re all just as big as Benjamin (in height and size) and their faces seem to resemble certain animals, I assumed that’s how they looked like when using Nen. I doubt Benjamin changes form as dramatically so he might still be a Reinforcer, in fact that’s what I thought he was. I didn’t think he was the same Nen type as his men.

And the boat goes on.

Man, just trying to keep track of all the players is pretty intense.

I wonder if Chrollo keeps Shalnark and Kotopi’s Nen abilities after they died, and if so do both abilities increase in power after death?

I thought Chrollo said he loses the nen ability if the original owner dies?

(Yeah, there are a bunch of chapters being introduced, but I think it’s probably best to just focus on the princes themselves. Thankfully, at the very least, Benjamin’s soldiers are wearing different clothes from everyone else and thus readily identifiable. The one guarding Camilla is probably going to get himself killed first at this rate.)

A bunch of stuff happened this chapter despite it being split up between all the princes, whom for some reason I thought there were seventeen of instead just a “mere” fourteen. Regardless, we finally got names and faces fully attached too for the most part. Good to know that Sale-Sale is the fat guy and eighth prince, for instance. Still, it would have been nice to a refresher of names for everyone since the sixth and seventh princes are the most difficult to remember for me personally.

I have to admit that I was initially a bit confused when I read “4 hours later” at the beginning only to see it pick up right where last chapter ended when we got back to Kurapika. If anything, though, then this makes the fact that Tserriednich learned Nen already due to being a “genius” even worse since he literally just heard about it like 10-15 minutes ago in-universe. Athena Christ.

Also have to admit that I’m a bit surprised Halkenburg didn’t get killed already given how a lot of things seem to be going wrong already with even worse ahead if the chapter is ending on an openly pissed off-looking, despairing Chrollo.

In theory, yeah, he should lose those ability, otherwise he would have straight-up killed Neon back in York New arc.

Then again, in theory, despite Nen reacting upon death, Hisoka shouldn’t have been able to revivfy himself quite the way he did, so who knows.

Given the line Chrollo uttered, however, I am currently personally choosing to believe he lost them since the ties were “severed”.

nen that is based on strong emotions of love, hate, anger etc gets stronger after death
hisoka is a sadistic fighter in his nen is built off the fire of fighting and violence you see how he gets off on it

i imagine that the nen that shanlark and kofpi ( probably butchered his name) are nen techniques that were created out of necessity to the group and just to have something. more in likely should disspate as no furthered feeling are implied as to their dedication to the spider.

The highlight of this chapter for me (besides seeing Chrollo) had to be Biscuit wearing a suit looking like a professional security guard, lol.

I read somewhere that Togashi thought about making Hisoka kill Machi immediately after he came back to life but then decided not to. It probably would have made sense because during the greed island arc Machi vowed to kill Hisoka if they meet again.

New Dragon Quest released. We doomed.

didnt know there was a HxH thread, but ya bet he already has a copy of DQ11 beta, and locked himself in his room.

Looks like DQ hasn’t consumed his soul yet.

Work on this chapter must have been completed before DQ released.

Actually Chrollo losing their abilities would make perfect sense for the story, Hisoka knows this and is sending a message to Chrollo through killing any Phantom Troupe member he can get his hands on. The big question is why isn’t he fighting back? Why isn’t he trying to warn the Spiders that they’re being hunted down? Why is he hiding out on that boat?

Finished the anime. Where can I start reading the Dark Continent arc from start to current outside of the wiki?

New chapter out, still going strong.

(I can’t be the only person who I thought that Togashi’s non-existent soul had already been swallowed up by Dragon Quest again given there was nothing last week.)

Well, things are moving more quickly than I thought they would given that we’re still on the first day of everything. I didn’t expect someone to go down this soon, much less multiple people.

It makes sense that Togashi was considering killing her there given that’s what it looked like Hisoka was going to do when he became a sore loser and took her by surprise. I wonder why Togashi changed his mind.

For the record though, if I remember correctly, then Machi said she was would only kill Hisoka if they met again if Hisoka somehow succeeded in killing Chrollo before then…which didn’t happen. In fact, that’s probably why the only reason Hisoka left her alive: he wants to fight and kill her at her angriest, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he intended to save her for last, like a fine wine.

The rest of the Spiders probably already know, especially since Hisoka specifically to Machi to tell the others he was coming after them after he let her live. Even if Hisoka hadn’t told her that, then I imagine that the Spiders would still already know after neither Shalnark nor Kurotopi returned between given they were near by enough to get murdered in the first place, their abilities most likely disappearing from Chrollo’s easily checked “spellbook”, and this one of the few universes not set on Earth where cellphones are prominently on display and readily in use.

(This does remind me that we never learned, at least as far as I can remember, whether Chrollo knows just to what extent Hisoka changed the fortune for himself that was created from Neon’s ability, which Chrollo should still have.)

As for why he’s “hiding” on the boat, it’s generally just their next target and he’s unusually dispirited given two (more) members of his group got killed, arguably in part because of his own doing between taking their powers, letting Machi stitch up Hisoka’s corpse, and not utterly destroying Hisoka’s body just to be sure he stayed dead.

That said, we as the audience still haven’t found out as of yet why the boat is being targeted in the first place.
