The Hunter X Hunter Thread (New anime series has begun!)

Call me an optimist, but I am predicting we get at least 3 more chapters before 2018.

Bets? 10 chapters

Last year he had a pretty steady stream for like 3-4 months where we got like 6-8 chapters. Maybe we will get lucky and get that again.

Unlikely, but possible.

He needs to shut the fuck up and simply show us the next chapter instead of announcing it. We’ll believe him when we see it. This “news” actually pissed me off.

I’m almost at the point of not caring anymore tbh, starting to think this will just end up being dropped midway through an ark and everything that’s built up along the series will have no payoff.

Just a reminder that HxH is resuming soon.

Also taking bets on how many chapters before next Hiatus X Hiatus.

(Yes, Hiatus x Hiatus returns next Monday supposedly.)

Not that I want to jinx it, but I wouldn’t surprised if we didn’t even get to the Dark Continent before the next hiatus and, instead, the next hiatus happened in however many chapters it takes for Hisoka and the Phantom Troupe to run into each other on board the giant whale boat.

We back.

Good chapter, but after such a long break some of the nuances and minor characters were kind of lost on me.

Almost forgot how much I dig the art style though.

Yeah I need to reread this arc from the beginning to refresh myself.

New Chapter is out.

I’m “team Benjamin” right now.
So it’s pretty much established that Gon isn’t going to be in this arc?

I’m okay with Gon sitting this one out. Might like to see an interlude teasing what he’s up to in the meantime though.

Those nen beasts in the new chapter are nightmare fodder, btw.

That girl bodyguard is gonna die so horribly.

Feels good coming back into this thread again.

Tserriednich’s beast is easily my favourite so far, but as fucked up as it is, Togashi hasn’t fully shown Tyson’s yet, so I’m waiting for that one.

Theta was right about someone like Tserriednich learning Nen being terrible, but too bad, she’s gonna have to teach him anyway. Should be interesting to see how that turns out and how quickly Tserriednich can grasp the basics, or more. Depending on his potential aptitude and Theta’s teaching could he quickly develop a Hatsu? Though, Theta’s aiming to deliberately teach him poorly in order to make sure he doesn’t become too terrifying.

(I honestly can’t remember even half of the names of the princes, and lol at Mangastream’s translation of one of the princes saying the succession war can choke on his dick.) Tserrie and Tubeppa are already counting out all but 5 of the princes, but of course, they’re underestimating the competition. Kacho’s trying to ally up with Fugetsu and Luzuru’s gunning for Tubeppa.

(Yeah, all of the princes’ names were difficult to remember even before the last hiatus happened. At this point, the only ones I remembered upon coming back were Benjamin’s, Tserrindech Tserrendich …Tserrie’s, Halkenburg’s, and of course Wobble’s at present.)

Well, it’s not as if we needed more confirmation that the Prince who moonlights as a serial killer in his spare time when he’s not collecting body parts is the Prince with the most fucked up Nen-Beast, but we certainly got it, especially since “Theta”–that’s how they’re translating her name now?–is someone whom he currently seems to think was exceptionally loyalty to him and worthy of praise (for “useful trash” at least). It is also equally unsurprising that Benjamin’s Nen-Beast essentially has a dick for head; I wonder how much he would like Aliens.

That said, I am surprised that more of them don’t have fucked up looking up Nen-Beasts, honestly, given how spoiled and malicious the majority of them seem to be. In this chapter alone, the third prince, the party guy prince, and, most surprisingly, the female prince who said just said the top 3 should be “purged” have relatively normal-looking Nen-Beasts; Halkenburg’s Nen-Beast is on the fence as is Momoze’s.

Nice to see that the plot seems to be moving quickly again without automatically devolving into a bloodbath as of yet.

I guess I missed a chapter. Didn’t see the chapter where Kurapica can steal Nen abilities with one of his chains. Jesus Christ, they need to stop making Kurapica more broken. Jesus, show a mastery of transmuter, conjuration, enhancement, etc different type of Hatsu’s. Stop giving him more specialist abilities that are ridiculous.

You haven’t seen the chapter where Kurapika steals Nen abilities because that skill was only mentioned for the first time in the last chapter, unless you missed the last chapter…

I still think Chrolla with his full Nen abilities would beat Kurapika at this point.

I was surprised that Tserriednich’s wasn’t described as being within the top three most deplorable Princes, and considering what we know and can assume of Hakenburg’s personality and his appearance (doesn’t he look like quite similar to Tom Cruise?) I was surprised that his Nen beast looked the most physically powerful.

(Yeah, the skill thief ability wasn’t revealed until last chapter. We still don’t even know for sure all of the abilities Kurapika’s chains actually have even with that reveal.)

Meh. I like that Togashi didn’t beat us over the head with the fact that Tserriednich was especially depraved even among the princes. It seemed kind of obvious given how we were introduced to him, especially since some of the other princes are completely guileless children who are probably, at worst, “just” spoiled. So far, of the two other adult princes we know in more than just passing, Benjamin is only a musclebound asshole who is extremely competitive & has only been shown threatening Tserriednich himself with death and Halkenburg is some lonely polymath who seems actually noble if socially awkward.

So Tserriednich being an unabashed serial killer means he wins by default with the only real competition for deplorability so far being his own father and maybe Kacho.

While I’m not going to argue that Kurapika isn’t more powerful than he “should” be for the relatively short amount of time he’s trained in Nen (two years?), I have to correct this a bit. Emperor Time doesn’t give him mastery of all Nen categories; Emperor Time just means that he can use them all at 100% should he try to while still being within Conjuration restrictions.

While that’s obviously still a large potential advantage, I imagine that he would still likely be weaker, if only due to lack of experience, than most of the people naturally born in those categories outside of Conjuration (and I guess Specialization given it’s the miscellaneous category), especially since we’ve yet to see Kurapika use Transmutation or non-chain-based Emission at all. Additionally, the one Manipulation skill he has, Judgment Chain, he can’t use on all but thirteen people in the world without literally dying.

Beyond that, his skill-stealing ability seems to be the weakest one we’ve seen in the series so far. It’s difficult to tell given the person he used it on was both already incapacitated and already having their Nen also drained by a parasite that was manipulating them. So yes Kurapika is powerful, but he’s hardly broken, even against the Phantom Troupe. I doubt he’d even break into the Top 20 of most powerful people we’ve seen in the series at present. Hell, maybe not even Top 50 among the people who are still alive.
