The Hunter X Hunter Thread (New anime series has begun!)

he has better abilities but Hisoka is a smarter opponent. if he could get out maneuvered by Kurapika then Hisoka should be able to take him down as well considering thats what he specializes in; using his two shit teir abilities to maximum affect.

plus what is Chrollo even going to do if he survives? Hisoka still has Illumi and the kids to chase after, but Chrollo lost his importance when Kurapika got the revenge he was after. he has no reason to continue on in this story.

Lets look at it like this.

If Chrollo lives, hes coming for Kurapikaā€™s ass.

If Hisoka lives, they have a possible ally.

I think the best possibility for the characters involved is for Hisoka to live, because if he doesnā€™t, Chrollo is going to fucking kill Kurapika with extreme prejudiced.

I didnā€™t realize Chrollo was cured in the manga. I knew I was missing some stuff, but didnā€™t realize that had happened.

Hisoka will probably win, but Chrollo likely has the advantage especially since he can use his abilities without having to hold the book meaning he can engage in close combat without any disadvantages. I see them both living through this with a Chrollo victory.

If he says heā€™s killing off a main character I wouldnā€™t consider Chrollo a ā€˜mainā€™ character. Hisoka and the core group are ā€˜main charactersā€™. Maybe Kurapica? I could see Kurapica getting taken down by Chrollo then having another Spider Arc or having something on the Dark Continent possibly. Chrollo winning sets up a lot more interesting stuff then vice versa.

Chrollo got presumably cured after Greed Island, because thatā€™s when Hisoka hooked the troupe up with a Nen Remover. Theyā€™ve been out of focus as Chrollo was healing since.

Yeah remember they found the Nen remover, just never had anything explicitly shown after that from what I remember.

Easily could have just overlooked it, but seemed like they left whether he actually had been healed or not kinda open ended or so I thought. Again been awhile since that arc so could be not remembering something correctly.

Nope, they didnā€™t show it, happened offscreen. This is Chrolloā€™s first appearance since losing his powers.

Given that old man Zoldyck stated Chrollo would win if they fought seriously, I have to think Hisoka winning would be a big upset.

That said, Hisoka literally lives for this stuff and I could see him winning with some sufficient level of shenanigans. Specifically, I expect him to mess with Chrolloā€™s book in some fashion.

(Yeah, not your fault for missing that Sephiroth73003. Chrollo getting cured happened entirely off-screen after they found Abengen or whatever the black guy from Greed Island was named, though it heavily implied that it was going to happen soon or was at least happening concurrently to part of the Phantom Troupe showing up to kick Zazanā€™s ass out of Meteor City during the Ants arc.

Speaking of ā€œthe black guyā€, Iā€™m still wondering if he ended up joining the group as a whole since they never got around to refilling Uvogin or Pakunodaā€™s positionsā€“just Hisokaā€™s with Kalluto. I guess weā€™ll probably find out after this fight is over in three more chapters or so.)

As for the actual match itself, yeah, I can actually see Hisoka dying here despite the fact that heā€™s also one of the stronger characters in the story like how Chrollo is. For one, Chrollo outright said he wasnā€™t going to hold back for once, whereas weā€™ve seemingly seen Hisoka at the height of his potential already during several fights ever since Greed Island. For another reason, Hisoka dying would fit the ā€œmain character dies soonā€ thing that Togashi supposedly said about a year ago now; I personally thought that was going to apply to Kurapika, like a lot of people did, given that I could see him getting killed by the fourth Prince given the whole Spirit Beast thing if nothing else. Hisokaā€™s arguably more of a main character than Kurapika, Leorio, or even, at this point, Gon is if weā€™re going by sheer number of appearances and impact on the story though. Finally, killing off Hisoka, as popular as he is, would probably do the most good for the story overall really.

Letā€™s face it: as interesting and entertaining as Hisoka is, he is easily the most stagnant (main) character in the entire series. Even Illumiā€™s emotionless ass has shown more growth, though ironically some of that is due to Hisoka prodding him and a lot of it was recently due to hunting after Alluka. Meanwhile, we still donā€™t know much of anything about Chrollo or the scope of his abilities. We literally just found out as much about his abilities in this chapter as he did during the entirety of the York Shin arc. So, yeah, I donā€™t see Hisoka living through this, which is fine since heā€™d be fine with dying like this to someone like strong like thisā€“better that type of death than some random, likely far more horrible (un)death awaiting on the Dark Continent.

It is. Shalnark doubtless gave his abilities intentionally though, which makes me wonder if any of the other Phantom Troupe did so. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if Chrollo can give abilities heā€™s stolen back given his victims have to remain alive for it to work anyway, though things would of course get far more interesting if he canā€™t since it means that the Phantom Troupe is down yet another member now.

Regardless, itā€™s another aspect of what makes the Phantom Troupe so interesting given theyā€™re a bunch of serial killer ā€œblood knightsā€ that are simultaneously fiercely loyal to each other rather than disintegrating from in-fighting (or in-killing) like most other such groups would despite not having any cult-like guidelines to keep them together.

Iā€™m not sure what growth you expect from Chrollo. his growth only comes from an infinite book that could be literally anything the author wants from him. in other words itā€™s honestly pretty boring anytime he actually does anything new because he clearly has no limits. you can just take what he did just now for example that was a huge moment for him, but fell flat in comparison to any other moment such as Leirios portal punch and Hisokas arm feint.

just based on the fact Hisoka clearly has limits I find makes him much more impressive and Iā€™m more curious about his backstory than the spiders which you can probably already guess" grew up broke as fuck in meteor city and got really good at crime and killing so they decided to make a living out of it"

(Oh, I didnā€™t mean to imply that I was expecting growth from Chrollo, at least on a powers level. I couldnā€™t care much less about that.)

I was just stating that, in comparison to Hisoka, heā€™s less stagnant because heā€™s been around far less and is related to an interesting groupā€“the leader of it in factā€“whereas Hisoka has been around since the beginning, is arguably more of a main character now than at least half of the original main character, and is a loner with a rather simple philosophy of ā€œit amused meā€. Hisoka could become more complicated and itā€™s not like I want him to die, Iā€™m just not expecting that he will if he survives, which is part of the reason why Iā€™m expecting him to die.

One of the good things about this manga is that he could legitimately beat Chrollo without seeming forced unlike in many other shonen where a win over a (much) stronger opponent would call for some bullshit, mid-fight power or something that comes out of nowhere.

Gon id say is pretty guilty about that in fact id say heā€™s the worst offender of that trope. his transformation was pure BS and out of nowhere sure it came with a heavy penalty, but he was instantly healed back up. now the only penalty is that he canā€™t use nen and even that im pretty sure is temporary.

Hisoka will not be doing that fortunately, thats just not the way a character like him works. that said he could be hiding a third ability that he specifically saved for Chrollo so he could surprise him when they finally fought.

Do people really see Hisoka dying? weā€™ve never truly seen him go all out, though he is easily one of the strongest characters in the series.

Future Gon vs Hisoka has also been set up since what, the first arc?

Hunter x Hunter doesnā€™t really care about destiny.

(I wouldnā€™t say that Hisokaā€™s the one of strongest character in the series.)

Heā€™s just the strongest characters in the series whose power weā€™ve seen the most. I mean, heā€™s obviously among the stronger portion of the cast, but at the same time, most of the characters who could be (much) stronger we either havenā€™t seen in action at all (i.e. most of the Zodiacs), have only seen in actions quite limited circumstances (i.e. Silva, Zeno, and Illumi), or who promptly died after revealing their abilities once (i.e. Netero and the reset of the top ants).

Besides Hisoka and recently Illumi, the only other really strong characters weā€™ve seen more than once in unrestrained circumstances have been the Phantom Troupe, Genthuru, Morau, and technically Razor and, I guess, arguably Biscuit.

I can only really agree that the Gonā€™s power-up somewhat came out of nowhere, but other than that, it wasnā€™t anything like the usual shonen power-up at all given that it a) was powered by despair and a willing to die rather than willpower and willingness to save anyone, b) immediately self-destructed, and c) destroyed his body so thoroughly that it left him so close to deathā€™s door that it took a literal genie for him to not die after being sidelined for an entire arc, which is hardly ā€œtemporaryā€, especially since it looks like heā€™ll be sitting out this next arc too. If anything, then Gonā€™s temporary power-up is a deconstruction of the usual shonen powers that come out of nowhere, especially since it was pretty much immediately painted as a ā€œBad Thingā€.

On top of all that, then you could argue that the fact that his Hatsu falls under ā€œEnhancerā€ makes it sense that he can do that since it was gradually shown that Enhancers can basically ā€œenhanceā€ anything about themselves, even if itā€™s as a last resort.

Regardless, it says a lot that Gonā€™s the main character and that yet Hisoka has probably shown almost as much as, if not more, than him but has far less character development, which is what I was primarily getting at with the comparison.

Honestly one thing I like about HxH not being the strongest isnā€™t an insurmountable hurdle. It is filled with monster characters. Honestly, Hisoka likely doesnā€™t reach top 5 or even 10 HxH characters and honestly could see Killua or Gon before transforming potentially beating him (especially Killua).

Hisoka relies on dominating the upclose battle and trickery. Abusing his gums adaptability and movement restriction to push the upclose battle in his favor to land a critical killing blow. A really strong enhancer that could dominate him upclose or someone that is far faster then him like Killua would give him a lot of problems.

Iā€™d honestly say for sure these characters are stronger than Hisoka
Meruem, Future Gon, Gin, Netero, Royal Guards, Zeno Zoldyck, Killua

Most Likely Stronger
Chrollo, Feitan, Silva, Maha Zoldyck, Zodiacs

Honestly I think Uvogin would have beaten Hisoka. Only reason Kurapica beat him was he basically counter-picks any spider with Nen nullifying hacks.

Exactly,in this bizzare twist of fate Hisoka who was this overwhelming force of clorophobia and terrorized everyone in season 1 has become the underdog who may not even be able to beat Godspeed Killua.

He just became a lot more human after the exams hell we even got to see him awkwardly flirting Menchi and not psycho way he usually does with the boys.

The main character thatā€™s going to die is the manga, after Togashi puts it on hiatus for the last time.

Togashi could throw a curve and kill off Gon. Gon already achieved his goal of finding Ging and avenging Kite. Not sure if Togashi bold enough to pull that move tho

(Gon might literally be the safest person in the manga at present unless something fucked randomly happens to Whale Island.)

Outside of Pariston going after him to get petty revenge on Ging or the Phantom Troupe showing up, the only way heā€™s going to die is if catching up on all that schoolwork kills him. Even then, heā€™s actually decently safe from the Phantom Troupe since Nobunaga is probably still pretty insistent that he join up to replace Uvogin and the most of the other Troupe, outside of Feitan, donā€™t seem to actually dislike him.

Does Chrollo have to kill the user to gain their abilities? I noticed he was using Shalnarkā€™s Nen abilities while fighting Hisoka
