The Hunter X Hunter Thread (New anime series has begun!)

Although chapter was all about progression, it was done quite well. Comical, and we learned a few things along the way.
Ging character is developing rather nicely in this chapter. Hes wasnt the cold and carefree person I once thought 2 chapters ago. Powerful, and extremely intelligent.
Hooray for Hisoka finally making his appearance again. Too bad we dont know what happened with him and Kuroro. And his rating system, it seems like Ging is > all Zodiak members.
The election is getting more and more interesting. It seems that Ging is pushing the election towards a 1v1 between Vice president and another person (could be Ging).

I like where this whole thing is going. The art got nicer too.

Hunter x Hunter doesnt disappointttttt

How much can we expect in the next two chapters before we’re deprived of HxH again? Multiple elections in a single chapter? Plus the whole estranged-Zoldyck-brother-must-die thing.

That brother thing has been foreshadowed since the beginning. Glad that we are getting into it now.

(Oh good. The thread was being bumped and I just wasn’t getting alerts.)

I too was skeptical of all the black spaces at the end of the Meruem affair, as depressing & fitting as it arguably was. However, I can see why he sped it along, which is of why I find it so funny that people are also kvetching about that. However, this election arc is turning out quite interesting already.

I have to wonder where all of Ging’s smarts went if Gon is…like he is, age aside. I also have to wonder why Kurapika didn’t vote. Nice to see quite a few older faces regardless, especially after a lot of old side-characters got killed off at the beginning of the ant arc–poor, poor Pokkle.

I also just realized that almost no one knows (adult) Kaito is dead. This greatly saddens me for some reason.

Indeed. Like Pariston does have a rather large following despite (or maybe because of) being a passive-aggressive asshole.

Yep. It’s rather nice to see a hedonist that isn’t a complete asshole or monster. Speaking of which.

I don’t think anything happened between him in Kuroro yet; I highly doubt that it wouldn’t be shown. Illumi may just be referring to what happened with Hisoka infiltrating the Spiders–and then getting inadvertently cockblocked by Kurapika–and venturing into the game world to help find him a cure, which I’m not even sure if Hisoka knows they’ve found now that I think about it.

I highly doubt that’s what Ging wants and he ended up surprisingly low anyway. It might end up that way anyway just because his renown, though.

Yeah. I’m kinda surprised that we’re getting it “so soon” relatively speaking considering that I thought it would get its own arc or something. Then again, I was expecting Killua to go and try to find Leorio rather than going back home to see Silva, who passively hates Gon on principle.

Paritison or whatever isn’t supported because he is popular, he is supported because he did some radical change with the hunter association. I think his part was in pushing for lower standards during the exam which allows for more people to pass so he’d have more influence over them directly.

Gon isn’t dumb, he is ignorant. He grew up on a tiny island with little contact with the rest of the world. He does some pretty calculated shit too. Look at how he played Palm, or his schemes in fighting.

Kaito being dead shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. I mean, he wasn’t exactly alive when they found him.

Hopefully we’ll get chapters more often. I don’t see Togashi killing himself with wonderful art with these chapters, not putzing around with an election at least.

Also, the King was a fucking monster.

(I’m assuming we’re talking “monster” in terms of power, correct?)

Yeah, I’m kinda want Togashi to take it easy on that art if that’s what’s been prompting him to take such extended breaks in past years. Then again, I’m trying not even think about him going on break again.

Hmm…I suppose that makes sense given what was implied. Lower standards would perhaps make more sense as to why more people were disappearing and he has so many backers, but I was figuring something more nefarious than that given how fucked up and cynical–just like the real world–the world of Hunter x Hunter seems.

Oh, I never said he was outright dumb, but pretty much all his schemes, like versus Gensuru and what not, have been related to fighting and at great detriment to him and he’s been blown like half the time in a fight anyway, so… Also, I can’t really say he “played” Palm since she dumped him after he essentially just said that he needed to get stronger to help Kaito and then Killua arguably had to save his ass from her psycho, knife-wielding mode.

Unless I’m forgetting something else.

I meant that it seems like none of the Zodiac knows he is dead, at all. Or that anything even happened to him, arguably. Since one of them mentioned him like he was still alive or something.

I can’t make sense of the translations that mangareader keeps putting up. I read that, sort of understand, then wait for the mangastream one for me to go “oooooooooh.”

These chapters are more talky-talky and less arty, so I wonder if they’ll keep going for longer than the releases in the past?

Alluka’s ability is pretty fucked up/amazing.

(People really need to link to things.)

I wasn’t aware that chapter had actually came out yet, but that’s because I was looking only on mangastream. Apparently it’s been out on mangareader since yesterday.

…Holy shit at Alluka’s power. That’s…I…even knowing things are “balanced”, it is still both such a horrible cost and so absurdly powerful.

Originally, I thought this was the person that Illumi was going/wanted to kill, especially with the way that Silva was talking about her (I thought it was a boy since no daughter had been mentioned–I can see why now), but…well, obviously not, even though it still seems like it should be considering. They probably find her to useful to just outright dispose of, which is the only reason I can think of that either haven’t killed her or wished her ability away.

Ugh. Even as terrible as the reveal was, all I can think of, morbidly, is how her power works when it comes to saying “no” non-consecutively or just outright ignoring her if she asks anything. It probably still gets you killed.

The same for what would happen if you just left her in “black mode”.

That power is so fucked up. SO FUCKED UP. Like insanely so.

Looking forward to this arc though. It’s progressing very fast, and two big things are happening at once, with the elections being the (mis)adventures of Ging in manipulating everyone and Killua’s GET GON BACK arc

Can’t wait to see what ridiculous price Gon’s revival will require

Man, I wonder what her black mode requests are going to be if she removes Gon’s oath. Watch that shit kill off a whole town or something.

Can’t wait to see how long before we go back on hiatus.

Anyone else confused about Alluka’s sex? Look at the translation from Mangastream:

Let’s allude to both sexes on the same panel!](‘http://mangastream.com/read/hunter_x_hunter/10459468/8’)

(Must you tempt fate, Stabby?)

I forgot to mention something about last chapter: I wonder who Hisoka “graded” at 95% before Illumi distracted him. The most obvious choices seem like they’d be Ging or Pariston, but I don’t think either of them were there at the same time as him.

Also forgot to mention how cute Kid Killua is in this chapter, how I find that the butler on page 13 looks exactly like Junji Ito’s style and how neat the little dartboard callback was. Also that we got implicit confirmation, not that we needed it, that Gon is likely the person Killua loves the most at this point. Dawwww…

Gods the Mangastream translation is so much better (as always). Heh at “pesterings”.

Everyone seems to be confused about it, though I’m guessing Alluka IS a boy and IS the brother that Illumi wants to eliminate because nothing really makes sense otherwise. His mother just probably dresses extremely girlishly as with Caruto/Karuto, which leads to massive confusion. I mean, considering Alluka seems to be in-between the Killua and Caruto in age, it would kinda make sense that Caruto is the “replacement” child in that sense when it comes to his mother dolling him up with Alluka basically in a toy vault; Alluka also is pretty damn flat-chested for a girl that age since Killua’s basically in his young teens (IIRC) and thus Alluka should probably be at least at the start of puberty by now.

Anyway, I was lurking TVTropes forum last night after doing a bored search for this character there and reading everyone’s reactions led to the above conclusion and another one that’s arguably most fucked up thing about this power: Alluka probably has no “real” personality of his or her own beyond whatever reason she doesn’t “pester”/“request” anything from her parents.

(Holy Shit. I just realized that even that may be pure self-preservation on the power’s part since Alluka probably loves his parents the most and/or thinks they love him the most, which would cause him to die as well if they declined his requests 4 times in a row. That’s…sad, especially knowing how Silva at least feels about him.)

I mean, if you think all the way back to York Shin Arc with that girl (Neon?) that could make accurate if unclear predictions with her fortune-telling, her power was entirely unconscious as both observed when Kuroro asked her about it and then observed her using it. She literally just blacked out whenever her power was active, which is part of the reason she couldn’t understand why it was gone. Compare this to Alluka’s power, which also seems to be entirely unconscious and due to its very nature must be active all the time, and…yeah.

So Silva may in fact be very right about Alluka not really being a person and more being a horrible wish-granting machine.

It’s even worse still given the fact that like Neon and Komugi it seems to be an entirely unconscious power, which means it must have been born out of some incredibly strong desire. What exactly would basic premise of wishing be? To help people. I…that’s…just…what the fuck, Togashi? What the fuck?

P.S. It’s possibly made even worse still by the fact that you possibly can’t even wish away this power like I suggested yesterday, at least without dying. From the same forums, someone suggested that it may just be one of the few things the power can’t (or won’t) do out of sheer self-preservation or it breaking the cycle of (actually unfair) “equivalent exchange” since, with it gone, there would be no “request payback”. I wouldn’t be surprised if Illumi secretly tried this already, especially if he just wants to straight out kill Alluka instead of manipulating him like he did Killua–he probably can’t manipulate him due to Alluka being manipulated by his own power, though, like other controlling nen abilities.

Speaking of Neon (?), given what Kuroro saw when she activated, I am also extremely morbidly curious as to what one would see if they activated Gyo when he was granting a wish, killing someone who denied four requests or just generally in “black mode”. It seems like it’d probably be some Eldritch Abomination shit even beats out Yupi’s transformation to the point that makes people go insane or just outright kills them like some Nen Brown Note, which is entirely possible given Melody’s back-story.

So much Fridge Horror in just this one character…

I think Hisoka was grading Illumi. Like he didn’t realize he was there, then the 95 pinged, and he went “Oh…, just you again.”

I’m getting the impression that Pari is weak. I mean it might be some plot twist later, but too much they’ve said has led him toward the weaker end of the spectrum, or at least having utility powers instead of combat.

And I’m seeing Ging pinging at 100, since Netero called him one of the top five nen users on the planet.

Regarding this chapter, everyone that knew about the Silva siblings had been assuming that the mysterious last one was a brother. In the chapter before, Illumi said brother (at least according to mangastream) which is pretty explict. It might be like Nef, where they refer to this sibling with the different gender pronouns (watashi/boku) and the translators are keeping them intact in each instance.

On the powers, I think you might be reading too much into it. I think the requests just happen sometimes, and sometimes they don’t, or that they have a trigger. I don’t think they would have tried wishing away the power, since it is pretty fucking useful. But we’ll see in future chapters.

I guess the King wouldn’t have been that much of an issue regardless then.

And yeah, I got the Junji Ito vibes too. It was probably deliberate.

(So, has anyone been keeping up with the new anime? I haven’t.)

Heh. Probably am overthinking this like always, but it’s still kinda horrifying that it could be a legitimate possibility in the first place.

Hunh. Weird. For some reason I thought the Hisoka thing happened last chapter, but it was 320.

But, anyway, yeah, that’s a quite likely possibility since looking at those pages again it does seem to be more someone that he wasn’t looking directly at despite all the grades before being visually based. It’s difficult to tell for sure, though.

Oh, yeah, probably, but it’s difficult to tell. I doubt that he’s like “building explode” powerful or anything like that, but even if he’s “weak” compared to the rest of the Zodiac, it’s difficult to tell how weak that actually makes him. Probably not very.

I concur. I also had forgotten that it was explicitly stated that Ging was gone by time Hisoka had arrived. Whoops.

That doesn’t make much sense, though, since even on mangastream, in the actual last chapter of 13, Killua himself calls Al(l)uka a he. Besides, they grew up together, so it’s not like Killua wouldn’t know what sex Alluka was unlike Nef, whom neither Gon or Killua knew personally or even met outside of combat. So it’s not like they could ask Nef to drop trou or anything to “confirm” (even if I doubt that most of the ants actually had genitalia still).

Yeah, we’ll see.

Wishing away someone as powerful as the King or even the entirety of the ant problem would probably literally kill a (small) country’s worth of people though.

Yeah, probably, especially given the page just before that.

Honest, I sort of think Gon could easily be killed off and this manga wouldn’t miss but a few steps. But jeez, I’d hate to think what exactly is going to happen if he does wish Gon back to health with young girl (she looks too much like girl for me to believe otherwise yet)'s pestering.

The page of chapter 322 I previously linked was edited by the translators and now refers to Alluka as “she/jher” respectively, and Killua directly references Alluka as his sister here:

http://mangastream.com/read/hunter_x_hunter/10459468/4

But anyway, I wonder if you could exchange some stem cells and cloned organs for the requests.

yeah, i checked some japanese resources and they say that her gender was clarified as a she in chapter 322
