The Hugo Thread

Doesn’t he just say “Ein, Zwei, Drei”?

he definitely says something when he slams them into the ground but I can’t make it out :frowning:

its a possibility he’s just making some german grunting noise haha

I thought it was “End” with English Voice Actor
And “Ending” with Japanese Voice Actor

Its “Ende” german for "end"
The problem with Japanese Voice Actores and “e” considert means its “ende” in Both versions

Yeah, its:
Eins, zwei, drei - Ende
engl: one, two, three - end

thanks guys! sorry, I have a weird obsession with the German language… lol

What kind of options do people have against cross up splashes, cr lk, palm, repeat?
I was using Hugo for a bit but opted to try Rolentro/Gief for a bit again and whenever I come up against Hugo, its the same crap.
No one is using any variety. It seems they only know that with him.

if it works why would they do anything else?

There comes a point when it doesn’t work, and they just kill the clock and I win anyway.
I really think some people pick their chars strictly for the hope once their other char lands a jab, they go into a long ass chain string tag out combo rinse repeat.
No depth with a character by themselves. If they had a 1 vs 1 mode, Im sure the amount of Hugo’s would drastically decline.

For crossups, anything that’ll get you away from Hugo’s danger zone is an option.

Forward dash, whiffing an attack that moves you forward, alpha counter, invincible reversal, some close AA normals… with Rolento try his slide to escape crossup shenanigans. With Gief, I’m pretty sure Lariat and RBG deal with it effectively no?

As for cr.lk xx lp.clap spam, you can actually squeeze an attack between the kick and the clap because it’s not a true block string. Its actually very very unsafe! Hell, I’m sure you could even jump and cross Hugo up in the gap if you wanted…

I’ve found something, that may be well known, but i don’t see it in the wiki or movelist, and i’ve searched and didn’t found it here…
The 2 moves hugo have with a 360 motion:
**Moonsault Press [ :360::p:]- **
**Meat Squasher [ :360::k:]- **

Both moves can be done with a :df::d::db::b::ub: motion or :db::d::df::f::uf: motion,** it doesn’t matter left or right.** If you end the motion with :p: you will get Moonsault Press, and if you end with :k: you will get Meat Squasher. No gems with this, this is a capcom shortcut.
This is GREAT for wakeup roll and Moonsault Press Ex.

Other than that, people hate me when i play with Law-Hugo, they leave love messages and leave the game if we meet again, but they don’t hate me if i play Law-Jin :frowning:

I haven’t seen a compilation of Hugo’s options on the opponent’s wakeup yet, even though the info is probably spread through out the forum:

After getting Hugo in (Usually off a launcher) I do my BnB into mk backbreaker and immediatly mk backbreaker again to cross up the opponent on the ground. In most cases, the opponent will be locked in place on his wakeup, because you just made it impossible for him to forward roll, and he would have to hold backwards pretty early to be able to forward roll the other way.

After ultra, I immediatly dash forward, then crussup, and cross back up again for an unrollable crossup with splash

After moonsault press I usually take some steps back if I expect a roll, and do a neutral jump with splash, for a somehow ambigious cross/non-crossup

After meat squaser I usually do the mk backbreaker as anti roll cross again, but you don’t end up close enough to the opponent to cross up I think.

After the mk backbreaker, I see people like Claky D go for a lot of dash->down down mk->j. forward splash. This is very ambigious, but seems to land in front most of the time? It is very good against dp’s and flashkicks though. It is rollable however, so I go for this option if I know the opponent wants to dp into tag cancel or something.

Also, against opponents that are patient and block a lot, you can often go for several crossup splashes in a row. I sometimes go for splash, then either c.lk or lp to mix up: If you do splash, then c.lp, you will crussup if you do a jump forward splash, but if you do c.lk instead before jumping, you will not get a crussup. It is very hard to see.

What are you guys using to counter rolls, when not being able to avoid them rolling? Since it doesn’t seem like Hugo can jump back to hit the opponent with anything, I usually just try to predict the roll and neutral jump splash.

Btw: When you know the opponent is going to dp or reversal to tag cancel, what is your best punish? Against reversals with 1 hit (Ryu’s dp, flash kick etc) I usually do crossup splash, and then do lariet and hold it, just to absorb the reversal and wait for the tag cancel and release it on the incoming character.

Probably a lot of well known info, but I would like to know your opinions. There doesn’t seem to posted a lot of new Hugo tech here.

@SimSimIV

THANKS thats important some stuff i had allready figured out by myself (After SUPER([S]Ultra[/S]) as excample)
but some stuff is new and helps a lot ;:slight_smile:

i usaly went for MK-Overhead! since you can combo after on Countehit for high damage
Neutral Jumpsplash helps too against rolls BUT if you can time it right you can Backwardjumpsplash its a bit tricky but possible!!

besides that a c.LK; MP; LAUNCHER is hitconfirmable and almost always better then cLk.cMK try it out and althou try a Jab;Short;MP; Launcher occacionaly to punish jumping away then when you trained them use throws or overheads

Please record a video of this because I don’t think it’s possible

I’ve never been able to get splash off of back jump. I always get that weird air clothesline.

you just need to time the backjump late enugh so it gets a forwardjump but then again backjump closeline is a nice shenanigan since it can hit and connect with a lk/mk sweep fast and fair but nobody thinks it connects

at 18:50, check out clakey’s mixup. pretty cool, though they can roll out of it, but i didnt know that move crumpled (only on counter?)

Yes, only crumples on counter hit. Charge a lariat before doing his leap attack when you knocked down your opponent and it will crumple. It’s a very powerfull tool that gives Hugo even more damage if it hits.

Wait which move causes crumple? Body splash?

they’re talking about the overhead. it’s not a crumple, it’s a stagger. something like +30 on hit when it’s a counterhit
even on regular hits on crouching characters you can combo c.lp on it
