The Hugo Thread

Sorry, my bad. It only does that on his overhead (leap attack). sage2050 is right.

Hey guys, is cHP good as anti-air?

Oh yeah the book calls it a slip

Hey does anyone use backbreaker H on wakeup to escape mixups? Is that a terrible idea?

Actually that is useful sometimes, though it looses to meaties I would think. Sometimes you need to take the risk though, because Hugo in the corner can be very bad.

You can try cr.LP, cr.LP xx HK brackbreaker to escape corner in a less risky way

I’m not alooone! I Play Law + Hugo too, man they are such a good synergy to eachother, especially the tag combos they can do! Just to promote this team I’m going to list some awesome tag-combos I’ve used in the Lab and against real people, since they look real nice and (almost) all deal from 620 - 700 ish damage:

Starting as Law:

No Bar:

 • j.mk, st.HK, cr.mp,(kinda strict timing to link st.lp) st.lp, st.mp, st.hp, st.hp (magic series) [Hugo]
 • close cr.mp to above

1 Bar:
[Any starter] (there are more but I’m listing those that I use mostly):

 • cr.lp, cr.mp
 • cr.mp or cr.mk
 • j mk (or HK), st.HK, cr.mp
 • j mk (or HK), st.HK, cr.mp, cr.mp

[Any starter] into hcf + lp -> Tag Cancel -> IMMEDIATELY charge Hugo’s Lariat. Free super from 1 bar
(midscreen) [Any Starter] into hcb + any k -> tag cancel -> Hugo: cr.mp -> clap -> cr.mp -> lariat -> cr.lp -> clap -> Back Breaker
(corner) [Any Starter] into hcb + any k -> tag cancel -> Hugo: Jumping Splash -> cr.mp -> clap -> cr.mp -> lariat -> cr.lp -> clap -> cr.lp ->Back Breaker

Gahh, I think I might start a new thread for this awesome team, going into a little bit more depth.

Hugo is a monster though, I have to agree. One mistake and half your HP is gone. I made a rockish tribute to him the last days, which quite comically brings up the frustration of playing against him:

If you guys want, check it out

these shortcuts are from street fighter 2

That’s so good, thank you! Just started playing with Hugo. I used to play Poison/Paul, lost 60-70% percent of my matches. Then I changed in Hugo instead of Paul and yesterday I got a 20 winning streak xD I still have problems with the command grabs, never played a grabbler.

I these shortcuts work well, I’ll love you forever, no homo! ^^
Both versions work from both sides?

so you can do clockwise or counterclockwise and still getting the grab, since SF2??
I have no idea, sorry for posting obsolete stuff.

Just started trying out hugo and was wondering why the running grab doesnt work sometimes. they take like 1 step backwards and he just whiffs completely. not even jabbed out of it or anything. usually do it after a clap or between crouch attack and clap. is it just not supposed to hit if they literally take 1 step backwards?

Each version of Running Man runs a set distance. If your opponent is anywhere between point A and point B, you’ll grab them. If you get to point B, the grab will still come out if they aren’t in range. Try using the HK version if you’re ticking with Running Man so they can’t walk out of range.

I had no idea of Hugo’s potential until I finally sat down and committed to learning him and Poison. I’m loving his combos, his range, two ways to grab your opponents…if I knew he had this in SFIII I would’ve enjoyed that game a lot more.

He is hella different to play in 3s. SFxT made him into a beast though.

Ah, I see.

BTW, can someone tell me the logic behind people handclapping their way to their opponent when their fullscreen distance? Is it to build meter, because there’s a friggin Gem for that. And all it does it make you a larger target for someone to break you down.

It depends really. I only do it against fireballers by chance that I clap their projectile out. Clap counts as a 1hit projectile btw.

And technically Hugo has 5 ways to throw opponents

Front/Back throw
Moonsault Press
Running Man
Ultra Throw

I’m nitpicky lol

/Mango

I see, lol.

And I don’t really count the Ultra Throw…mostly because I’m still looking for an effective way to combo off of it.

What I like about Ultra Throw is that it has terrible startup, so it’s easier to tick in this game.

Yeah this sounds crazy but since you are throw-invincible for a few frames after leaving blockstun, having a crappy startup throw really helps.

Best combo off of ultra throw with no meter is Ultra throw, leap attack, cr.lk xx lp clap, backbreaker for 328 damage or replace backbreaker with super if you have it for 477 damage.

Much better options off of ultra throw compared to moonsault press if you are gonna tick into something.
