Hey guys, I have a quick question about SE modding. Iāve just got my hand on an SE which doesnāt have a pcb (although the wires and ribbon cables are still intact). Iām hoping to install a ps1 pcb into the case (I have the pcb ready using the spiffyshoes hack).
My question is, can I simply insert wire into the open ends of the grey ribbon cables? The wire Iām using seems to fit so my guess is that its ok right?
Nevermind, I went ahead and tried it and it works!! So i managed to install a ps1 pcb into an SE with absolutely no soldering involved! Now, just waiting on my Xconverter360 and InPin converters
I modded my SE stick with sanwa buttons, and I replaced the joystick with the stick from my TE, since I modding it already, and now I cannot press down on the stick. The buttons work, and I can move right, left, and up on the stick, but I canāt go down. Anyone know what is wrong. The joystick works in my TE, and the old SE stick works, but the TE joystick does not work in the SE. Any suggestions on what could be wrong?
I got an SE, and I canāt seem to take out one of the QDs on A. Any suggestions?
EDIT: nvm, got a pin and took it out.
need to bump
now my LT is going rapid fire and wonāt stop pressing even though iām not pressing it
solutions?
iām ready to do this mod, but iām confused about one thing⦠the xbox USB cable is already wired to the 5V, as well as D-, D+, GND, and SGND. do i need to desolder the 5V and then connect it to the red block in the terminal strip on your diagram, coupled with the ASCII 5V??
iām very noob with electronics and wiring, and iāve spent hours trying to familiarize myself with the whole process today, so bear with me⦠full guides like this and your diagram have really helped, but iām still not getting this 5V thing. any other links for dummies like me would be really appreciated, thanks!
Yeah I modded my stick yesterday and The OSBF 30ās that I got had to be filed down so they can go all the way down into the button holes. Put artwork on there too. Yeah make sure you file those button tabs before you start trying install them, it was a pain taking them out again to file.
Well I said in my Post.
For the +5V, you will Tap or Splice into the wire already there.
Or you can solder; solder underneath the PCB where +5V is located.
So do not desolder the +5V wire and put to Terminal Strip.
That wire is USB Power.
great, sounds doable! now if only i can get this damn ASCII stick out⦠itās under some plastic. iāve disassembled it to where nothing else unscrews lol. oh well iāll keep trying.
EDIT: iāve got another problem⦠i tried stripping the USB cable to get more access to the 5V wire, and ended up stripping the SGND wire, which also has a bunch of wire wrapped around all the others⦠is this a simple fix? :\
iām still stuck on this mod⦠no progress yet. iāve fiddled with the ASCII stick for hours, and i canāt figure out for the life of me how to remove it without breaking the case. hereās some pictures:
thereās nothing to unscrew! see how the all corners of the stick are blocked by plastic with what looks to be the end of some screws maybe. but thereās nothing else to remove to get to them, so maybe notā¦
and hereās the USB cable on the SE stick that i stripped too much.
any help would be appreciated. i PMād someone who modded the ASCII stick, and he said it removes just like any other Sanwa stick. itās definitely nothing like removing the SE stickā¦
Iāll like to quote my issue again. I really cannot get this to work. I did not undo any wiring. All I did was remove the stock joystick, and replaced it with the TE stick, and now I cannot go down when I press the stick down. I tried putting the stock stick back in but now it doesnt work at all. I think something may have happened when I removed the connector from the joystick, but I do not know how to fix this problem. Any ideas?
With the ASCII you have to remove the top metal panel. Take off the white sticker, then there should be couple of screws you take out. That stripped wire, you can just get a another usb wire, cut the end and strip the cables and solder them to the corresponding points.
Ashane is trying to remove the ASCII Base from the Case.
The Optical PCB has been removed already.
edit. someone beat me
Thanks so much for putting this up! My SE recently crapped out on me and i just ordered parts($60 for stick and buttonsā¦yikeees.). Will let you know if I need any help.
thanks so much for the help, kugaii! thatās exactly all i needed to do to remove the ASCII stick, and i was stuck on it for weeks!
so i pretty much ruined the usb cable, eh? thatās pretty lame⦠will any usb cable work?
Aww, you didnāt get the Joystick out until now.
Any USB work.
I want to see your finished.
hey the quick disconnects are really really hard to pull out sometimes. Ive broken one of the plugs off into the disconnect and another one ive pulled the back of the button off but the wire wont dc. What do i do?!?
Anybody got any tips to keep the 5 pin connector connected to the stick? I just swapped the old one with a JLF and it became loose after 30 minutes of play.
