The how to mod your SFIV SE Fightstick FAQ

Thanks for explaining, very helpful. But my problem is that I still don’t know which one should I buy. Given that the shop where I’m going to buy the parts has 8Y, 8YT, 8Y-SK and 8S, which one should I get?

Thanks!

You can use any of those.

JLF-TP-8 you will rotate the PCB and use stock Mad Catz Mounting Plate or buy Sanwa JLF-P1.
JLF-TP-8Y you will use stock Mad Catz Mounting Plate or buy Sanwa JLF-P1.
JLF-TP-8T you will rotate PCB.
JLF-TP-8S you will remove JLF-P1-S, rotate PCB and use stock Mad Catz Mounting Plate or buy Sanwa JLF-P1.

Once you have a JLF in your hands, rotating the PCB can be done in only five seconds.
It is super easy.

If want save money, and shop you are buying from has JLF-TP-8Y cheaper than JLF-TP-8YT, then get JLF-TP-8Y.
Just use the stock Mad Catz Mounting Plate.

But if you don’t want to do the work of unscrewing the stock Mad Catz Mounting Plate off, then buy JLF-TP-8YT.
Some shops sell JLF-TP-8YT with Mounting Plate not pre-installed, so you may have to screw it on yourself.
But if you will be screwing on Mounting Plate, might as well start out with JLF-TP-8Y right?

But installing a Mounting Plate requires taking apart Joystick.
So might as well start out with JLF-TP-8 right?
That doesn’t matter though, as I don’t think I’ve seen shop with JLF-TP-8, just JLF-TP-8Y.
Rotating PCB very simple and quick though.

You see that I did not mention anything with [SK]?
That is because it is nothing to how Sanwa JLF fit into Mad Catz Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick?.
It is just a Shaft Cover; there for looks.

You want the exact variation of Sanwa JLF that Mad Catz Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick? has?
JLF-TP-8YT.
Even more exact?
JLF-TP-8YT-W; that just means White Ball Top.

You want the exact variation of Sanwa JLF that Mad Catz Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick? Tournament Edition has?
JLF-TP-8YT-SK.
Even more exact?
JLF-TP-8YT-SK-W; that just means White Ball Top.

So, choose which you want.
Choose on how much you want to spend.
Choose on how much work you want to do.

Thanks for the detailed answer!

Finally got my SE stick modded.

Used Sanwa buttons and joystick. (OBSF-30 and JLF)

Modding this stick is harder than it should have been. Of course, quick disconnects were a bitch to take off, even with tools. It was kind of hard to push the new buttons into the holes. It’s a really really tight fit. The gel on the joystick connector was also a pain in the ass.

But at least it’s over…

Just finished Modding my stick with sanwa parts but I have a question regarding the black shaft cover on the stick. Does it have any practical use? I found it a little awkward to be playing with it since I was sorta use to the SE stick. The way it rotates was a little distracting.

i’m pretty sure you could take it off and go back to the regular sized dust washer (for the SE stock stick) but why would you? how is it distracting?

i wasn’t referring to the dust cover, i was referring to the actual black cylinder that covers the shaft of the stick. i was just curious if this was just a cosmetic thing or does it actually serve a purpose

i think it just makes the shaft bigger, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Once you go black you never go back?

Oh you!

after goin through 1 se stick from being defected x_x
i took a risk for the 2nd se, has (updated screws) and is flawless i recommend everyone to buy the new shipment

Would a button replacement for the SE stick fix any button that isn’t responsive?

Would the crappy button be the problem or something much worse?.

for me i thought the same my button died out during a match so i unplug and played worked for a few hours then died so i thought it was the buttons. i then modded it and found out it wasnt the buttons it was the pcb it was bad and my turbo function would all light up when not activated so dont mod it yet just send it in its worth the wait rather than void it and have a broken stick -_-

I was modding my SE stick with Sanwa parts right now.
I got the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK and when i connect the harness to the stick it seems that it is WAY too loose.
Any thoughts regarding what I should do?

Hot glue or tape?

It’s not that easy to hold it into place with tape.
Using glue I guess is ok although I don’t know what is hot glue (I’m sorry, english aren’t my native language).
What if I ever want to remove the stick in order to print artwork etc, will I be ok?

Oh, I did not realize.
Sorry about.

Hot glue is this:

It is melted plastic.
Pretty easy to remove when you need to.

Hot glue is used on many products.
I’m sure you have seen it on some things in Greece.
I can’t think of anything right now.
Laugh.

Thanks but to be honest I was a bit impatient and used a tiny amount of liquid glue, just to hold it in place.

Then I switched on my X360 and I found out that the directions weren’t working properly. No way near actually… Everything was so messed up, that I couldn’t even navigate within the dashboard. While inputting f, f I was getting an f, b. While I was holding f everything was ok.
Almost all the other directions were messed up like this etc.

What could have gone so wrong?
I am totally clueless and the thing is after all these I reconnected the stock stick and it was working flawlessly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, this thing is driving me insane and unfortunately I have no experience at all in stick modding.

Take the wire harness that is connected to the joystick, remove it, flip it over (so the side that was facing up is now facing down) and reconnect it.

This is assuming the PCB is oriented correctly already.

I turned the end of the harness that is connected to the stick upside down and replugged it and the stick didn’t even work like this.
Wtf, I am still totally clueless regarding what might be happening:/.
