As for initial feel, I would say that the JLF has a slight edge. However, the stock MadCatz joystick has an issue where it will eventually grind itself to a point where the joystick isn’t operational anymore. It also depends on how many hours you have behind a joystick and what kind of joystick you’ve used. I’ve been playing on a JLF since 2005, and when I got my SE I could instantly feel the difference.
If anything, think of it as preemptive maintenance on your stick.
Did you just replace the stick itself? The biggest difference I noticed was with the buttons…Sanwa buttons are so nice :wgrin:
I can kind of see where you’re coming from with the stick, the MadCatz stick is just a knock-off JLF so they do feel similar. I replaced mine with an octo gate right away so it felt different for me immediately, and I do think it’s more responsive & feels nice and fluid. I can pull off ultra’s now without any real trouble, where it was about 50/50 on the stock stick for certain ultra’s. Maybe give it some time, or do the spring mod if you want to tighten it up?
Sup peeps! Just wanted to send props out to all the peeps that contributed info about the upgrade of SE sticks. I followed the advice stated here and Sanwa’ed out my SE stick. To be honest I didn’t think I would notice the difference but after the install I put the stick and buttons to the test and I was truly amazed. Highly recommend everyone who owns a SE stick make that upgrade :china:
I’m still waiting for my stick and buttons to come in but reading some guides offsite on modding I keep reading that some people rotate the pcb 90 degrees so that its the same as the stock madcatz stick, is this really necessary? I just don’t see this done anywhere on shoryuken and alot of other mods don’t mention doing this either, looking at the pictures from lizardlick it looks like it would need to be rotated to be in the same position as the madcatz stock stick
From what I understand, the 8T (which is shown in the pic) has to have the PCB rotated. The 8Y/8YT/8YT-SK doesn’t. I got the 8YT and I didn’t need to rotate anything.
Although if you did get the 8T, I really can’t stress how easy it is to do the 90 degree rotation. It sounds more complicated than it is.
This should be updated that the screws from the original stick that hold the mounting plate are too small to screw into the JLF-TP-8Y. You will need to buy 4 screws. What size, I have no idea. I’m about to run out to the store to find some because this bit of info was missing. :shake:
I appreciate all the pictures and instructions, otherwise.
I managed to get an order in to Lizardlick when they were open on Monday, but I canceled it when I saw on their site that they were back-ordered 2-3 weeks. After reading this thread in detail, I saw that Video Games New York has Sanwa parts. Since I live in NYC, I went down there and picked it up without any problems.
At the store they said that they can take online orders. They don’t have a shopping cart on their website, but you should be able to get what you need if you call or e-mail them.
Big thanks to the OP, I just finished modding my fightstick with all sanwa parts.
My god what a difference, I can actually block diagonal down attacks now and the osbf-30 buttons are far better. This is my first stick and I honestly thought I was just really bad with it, but it turns out that the reason I couldn’t do hado’s is because it wasn’t registering diagonally forward and back, what shite!!
Anyone contemplating doing this it gets a huge thumbs up from me, sanwa parts are extremely good.
yeah sure, on the hard punch and hard kick I had to pull the buttons through the holes so that I could getter a better look. Be careful not to pull them through to far or you will pull them off the board.
Then basically I used a small flat head to pry them off a little by levering the screwdriver against the button.
You do have to be a bit forceful just don’t pull from the wire.
just managed to mod mine to full sanwa (sticks and buttons), i managed to get the screws off the stick fine and used them for the new stick. At first i plugged the stick in upside down, so when I went to use it only the down direction was working, none of the others, so if anyone has that problem just switch it round.
The quick disconnects were a nightmare to get off, i ended up using a piece of bubble wrap 3 deep and grabbing them through this to pull them off. My finger and thumb are still really scratched up from them.
Most of the buttons popped in fine, if they didnt i just sanded the hole for 30 seconds and tried again.
EDIT: Also got my stuff from gremlin solutions, took 12 days to get to me in the UK. Never got a confirmation email off them, i emailed asking for confirmation of my order twice within maybe the first 5 days, then just left it and was going to phone if it took too long. Then after 10 days I got an order despatched email in the evening, and it was here two days.
