The how to mod your SFIV SE Fightstick FAQ

Quick question for you guys. There seems to be a possible issue with my joystick (or with me). I have an LS-32-01. Are these joysticks supposed to move up and down along the shaft? There seems to be some play in the joystick in the up and down directions (perpendicular to the face of the joystick). It’s weird blocking down and back as the the joystick will move down and left but also will move a little along the shaft. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or do I need to tighten something up? Thanks for any help.

Got a 2nd batch SE stick and the <— stop registering today. Awesome.

correct. some jlf’s didn’t come with mtg plates so we had to use the se mtg plate. I know that my jlf is about the same feeling wise as the se ko stick. The difference is the quality of parts and that the jlf spring is a little less rigid then the se ko spring.

2009’er here.

I just wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this thread, I went through the mod myself last week and it worked like a charm. I couldn’t believe how easy this was. I do want to share some of my experiences though.

Like some others, I too had trouble with the quick disconnects. I found the easiest method for me was wiggling them back and forth with a pair of needle-nose pliers and using a bit of force to pull them off. I found that gripping them by the edges (instead of along the flat, skinny part), right up close to where it was plugged into the button, worked best. Just be careful not to squeeze them tightly into something that won’t plug back into the new buttons (I didn’t run into this problem, and I’m not even sure this is possible, I just don’t want to be responsible for anyone ruining their QD’s). A firm grip does just fine and worked for me.

I didn’t really have much trouble snapping the OBSF-30’s in, and I didn’t file anything. I just used some muscle and they snapped in quite nicely. Maybe I got lucky.

This is sort of an aside, but I did find the JLF pretty loose out of the box, especially with the octo gate. I opened it up and added the SE spring, and it’s definately stiffer but it still doesn’t feel quite right. I’ve got 2 Seimitsu’s on the way (32-01 and 56-01), so I’m going to do a comparison. I’ll keep you posted!

Let me know how that works out - I’m finding my Sanwa a little loose too. Was considering a Seimitsu but too lazy to do all this rotating plate thing - plus I’m still not sure if a LS-32 will do (has a flat plate) over messing with a LS-32-01 (S plate). Is there a Seimitsu that I can just drop in like an JLF-TP-8YT without any re-arranging plates etc?

Popped in the JLF, and did the extra spring mod. after a few days, the extra stiffness loosed up and it is the shit now.

I’ve combed (briefly) this topic but I couldn’t find the answer. Does the JLF-TP-8YT-SK joystick come with an octagon or square gate? I want an octagon gate so if it doesn’t come with it, where can I get one? I’ve looked through lizardlick.com but I couldn’t find one or my brain isn’t working.

Sorry if this actually has come up in this topic but I’m completely new to modding.

Comes with square. Lizardlick does have them (under sticks probably, toward the bottom of the page). They are supposed to open again in a week or so I think.

Wow, so they are at the bottom and I just didn’t scroll down enough or something. Thanks.

I would like to thank the topic creator, helped me alot changing out my stuff. Seriously was a piece of cake. The sanwa buttons DO fit in pretty tight, so we be careful.

If you guys can’t get your stuff from lizard get them from modchipman, I got my stuff within TWO days of ordering.

This might seem like a weird problem, but I can’t get the ball of the stock SE stick to screw off. It seems to be stuck in place. Anyone else experience this, and what did you do?

does anyone know what exactly has to be done to get light up buttons and ball…I’m assuming LEDs are involved…does anyone have a link to a faq on this…I just picked up the SE stick and I want to mod it …and add lights…

There is this Thread on how to do LED:

ty for FAQ. super easy, went well with no hitches

thanks jdm

Put my JLF in last night and found that its not that much of an improvement over the stock stick. The only plus is that its firmer, thats it. Not really worth the 25 and time I spent researching it all. All that hype about fitting a Sanwa and its be a totally different experience… we ll no not really.

I only played with it for an hour, so maybe its too early to judge but its defiantly not the difference between night and day, more like morning and afternoon.

BTW looks like MadKatz have put some sort of “glue string” that attaches to each of the parts, I guess its for warranty purposes coz u have to break some to mod the stick and now they will know Ive modded mine.

Thanks to Sleighty and everyone

Are Sanwa buttons supposed to scratch or crack easily on the surface of the button? My brandnew 3P button cracked…I wasn’t even using it. It was in my bag with some spare parts, that must have leaned on the stick without me knowing it. I’d just finished my mod, damn it…

Anyone else agree with me on this?

open it again and pull the springs apart, that should re-stiffen the joystick.

I’m fairly certain that “the shit” means “something that is very good”. As in, “He is the shit!” or “That new thong your mom bought is the shit!”
