GOD NO…I’ve played on my fiends Hori and that thing is looser than a $2 hooker…the SE is moderatly tight and def tighter than the Hori…I think you did get a 2nd hand stick…
Noooooo!! Fooking Amazon!! Well Im gonna play with the stick tonight and see how it compared to the Hore EX2. Gonna write a very angry email to them… Grrrr
Waited 3 months for one and this is what I get!! I wouldn’t be surprised if half the buttons dont work and the stick doesn’t respond. I might open it up, anyone know how I could tell if this was a second hand stick by looking at the insides?
By flimsy I mean loose. For example when I “flick” the stick, it kinda wobbles back to the neutral position. Its hard to explain, wish I could upload a video but Im at work.
I can hardly hear the clicks when I rotate the stick, is that normal?
:u: It should be a pretty solid click when you move the stick around. Why don’t you try testing the stick out on the game or something.
You could check for the “red glue” Madcatz used to glue the screws together…you’ll definitely notice it…and check your local Gamestop or gamestop.com and check your zip…I heard in a few threads that they got a 2nd shipment in…there were some here in VA…you might be able to snatch one up…
Im in the UK so dont have Gamestop, if Ive got red glue does that mean its a stick from the first batch?
:u: If it has the red glue on it, it just means that it hasn’t been taken apart.
Would be eternally grateful if you could do some sort of write up about it!
The stock jlf ko is actually a little tighter then a stock jlf. The spring has more tension so there is no way it should be loose at all. Matter of fact I took the spring from the ko to put in my jlf because of this…That would be horrible if amazon sent you a second hand stick. :annoy::annoy::annoy:

Think my SE stick isnt all that I expected. I need to put more emphasis when Im doing moves. With the Hori the give is not as great and so I can go around all 8 directions quicker. Also the stick is defo more flimsy and loose than the Hori, Il try making a video and putting a youtube to show how when I flick the stick it kinda wobbles back and forth before it goes back to neutral position but look at 1:18 in this review:
Notice how loud the clicks are, my clicks are no where near as loud as that
Im gonna open her up tomorrow and see if it actually a second hand one.
Since I got my TE delivered today, I decided to go ahead and yank out all the crap parts from my SE stick awaiting delivery of my parts from Lizard Lick.
Buttons were a snap, as was the Joystick.
However, I thought I’d at least salvage the ball top and the mounting plate from the stick even though the JLF I ordered has the mounting plate already.
I used the correct size Phillips screwdriver… but what the hell, I turned with all my might. I was afraid I was going to strip the screw heads out! Instead, 3/4 of the screws snapped at the threads! They were glued in so badly, the metal broke before the glue would!
Got my Seimitsu parts last night and put them in today…the hardest part I had was the “quick” disconnects on the buttons…S plate installed easily and the X button by the plate didn’t need to be sanded down at all…screwed in perfectly…I’m happy I went with Seimitsu instead of sanwa…
Those screws are shit. Just make it a point to break them and get them out. You can buy replacements at the store, and the plate works fine with JLFs.
Sorry to keep bugging about this but can anyone advise on my post? im getting worried ive got a second hand stick which might break anytime soon
Maybe its coz mines a new batch and the parts a different?
Finally, is it really worth modding the stick to a JLF-8YT? If so do I need to buy this cable aswell: http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/products/sanwa-jlf-h.htm, and does it come with a square gate?
The stock stick that comes with the SE stick is crap. Why do you think it would be ‘second hand’? Do you mean second rate? As in bad quality (then the answer is yes, at least for the stick that comes with it)
You don’t need a cable to put a JLF in there, and yes it comes with a gate.
Thanks for the quick reply LuckyDay
I say the stick seems second hand because when I opened it there was no plastic wrapping on the stick, it was just lodged between two spongy barriers. There was dust and “bits” on the artwork which I had to clean off. Theres some selofane coming out one of the under sides which leads me to believe someones opened it.
The main worry is when moving the stick it feels loose and flimsy as well as the clicks are very faint, nowhere near as loud as the clicks in that Youtube vid I linked. Whne I ‘flick’ the stick kinda wobbles back to the neutral position, my Hori EX2 stick is stiffer than this. The buttons seem fine though and the underside is clean.
The issues you’re reporting with the stick are just the poor quality of the stock madcatz stick. Get a JLF if you want something that performs better and feels more like what you’re used to (and much better than the Hori also).
Where did you buy the SE?
I bought it from Amazon.co.uk, it came next day delivery even though I selected the cheap delivery option
I wasnt expecting the stock stick to be so poor, its worse than my Hori EX2. The buttons are better than the Hori though.
Cool Im going to order a JLF JLF-TP-8YT, gonna leave the buttons for now. If this is indeed a second hand stick, what am I going to do if the PCB dies!!
Hey elrasho, I played for about 2-3 hours with my SE yesterday evening. I’m not really happy with the stick or the feeling of the buttons. I’ve actually just ordered sanwa parts this morning :annoy:
Me too Spammeh, Ive orderd the JLF-TP-8YT from Gremlin Solutions, is that where your getting yours from? have you ever used a Hori stick? If so don’t you think that stick is better than the stock Mad Katz one?
Hey fancy playing some online with me? My gamertag is elrasho
