The how to mod your SFIV SE Fightstick FAQ

so if i replace the joystick i have to used either JLF-TP-8YT or JLF-TP-8Y?

Check AkihabaraShop.jp, they ship worldwide I believe.

Please confirm

So the JLF-TP-8T carried by Lizardlick will be fine to install even without bothering to rotate the PCB to convert it to an 8YT?

Okay, what do I put in the second drop down box (next to where you pick the color)

EDIT: nm, I guess those are just the individual parts?

Could you elaborate on what problems you had? It is a bit concerning to see someone who has been here since 2005 say they had ā€œmajorā€ problems.

hmm weird my existing 5 pin connector is not color coated like urs unless u replaced urs? mine is straight black

Iā€™m not sure lol. I still have to buy the parts so I can mod my stick :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: yeah they are just individual parts.

My ultimate goal is to have a blue bubble top, and blue translucent buttonsā€¦(JLF Stick with a Semitsu bubble top) and then doing a light mod so that the buttons glow blue. Any suggestions towards achieving this goal with the buttons I picked out? Do they make a simple on / off switch battery powered blue light that can fit in the stick enclosure?

Anything that would not require soldering (I donā€™t have a soldering iron and to be honest I have little to no experience using one).

i just want to say that this thread is awesome! i appriciate it so much i even registered for the forum so say this! thanks to you guys i know exactly what to order and how to do it. i cant want for my jlf and sanwa buttons to come in now!

well when i hooked everything up, i came to find out that the forward direction was not working. This was because when i was tring to disconnect the harness from the old stick, i think i might have pulled to hard and maybe loosened one of the wires in the connector section. It was on there pretty tight due to the glue. So i fixed that problem by spliceing on another harness that i had lieing around. Thats why I have differnt color harness. If you look closey youā€™ll the electrical tape lol. That cured that problem.

Problem 2 was that the mounting plate on the old stick was fucked because of the screws. 3 of the screws was in so tight i couldnā€™t even budge them. Only one screw turnedā€¦and thats all it did was turn. It just keep spinning at a certain point and wouldnt come out either. I didnt have another mounting plate for a sanwa jlf, so i ended up useing my seimitsu which has a mounting plate on there already. Which is what i wanted to do in the first place. But because a direction wasnt working i thought it was the stick so I ran to the sanwaā€¦only to find out it did the same thing.

The only reason i say it was major was because it took alot of trial and error to see if it was the pcb, wire, joystick or my computer why i wasnt getting forward direction. Then the part with the mounting plate could have gone bad if I didnā€™t have another stick with a mounting plateā€¦

The connector problem can be easily avoided i thinkā€¦just dont work on your stick at 1am lol
The mounting plate though was unavoidable for me. It really was on super Fing tight. Just make sure whatever stick you get has a mounting plate. donā€™t depend on the one that is there already.

Thanks for the info, Rage.

That bit about the mounting plate probably deserves to go into the first post somewhere. Iā€™ve read about people having those problems with trying to reuse the stock plate in multiple places now.

Shit I just realized I ordered a JLF-TP-8Y-SK for the included shaft cover, but that doesnā€™t have the plate like the JLF-TP-8YT. Damn, I meant to do that too just to avoid these problems.

Rage- I take it you have a PS3 version right so I"m just gonna ask two questions for clarifications. Regular LS-32 (Not The LS-32-01 with PCB) with a ā€œflatā€ mounting plate or S mounting plate did the job? Did a LB-39 clear come with your stick or you just screwed it in?

Awesome thread. I picked up a second SE stick at frys since they had an assload but good god, I canā€™t stand using the buttons or the stickā€¦ I priced out 6 buttons and a sanwa stick and with shipping the total comes to $52. Ouchā€¦ add that to the cost of the stick which was $86 and Iā€™m looking at $138 which is nearly as much as the TE stick sighsā€¦

Does anyone know if a Mag-Stick Plus (diagram at http://ultimarc.com/controldiags.html) could fit into the SE stick without modification?

Dont look at it like that man. First off you are saveing $20. Plus you have a way better case. The case is smaller and lighter, which is easier to transport. Trust me on that!! I bin to tourneys or going over friends house and lugging around a hrap size stick is annoying. Plus i like the artwork on the SE stick much better. Man you wont be disappointed if your modd turns out good. Dont let the ā€œTOURNAMENT EDITIONā€ CATCH PHRASE fool you.

Yea its the PS3 version stick. I have the ls-32-01 stick. Im not sure if it is a s mounting plate. But what i do know is the mounting plate is not flat. This is what the mounting plate looks like http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/gremimages/ls-32-01_super.jpg. How do you know i have a LB-39ā€¦i never posted that pic in here lol. O and no it didnt come with the stick that was seperate. I have alot of spare parts lieing around.

for the installation of the joystick, what do you mean the gel should be facing you? do you have to rotate the joystick pcb switchs so that the connector is facing the right way?

Yeah i didnt get that part eithier

Ya though I love my TE stick to death, I would probably prefer to take the SE stick to tourneys. Problem is Iā€™ve been playing the shit out of the TE and will probably continue to do so. The small size of the SE stick means it sits a little differently on my lap which can throw my game off lol. Iā€™m still pretty eager to mod the SE since the main guide made it look so damn easy, but Iā€™ll probably have to get a a sturdy table to drill the thing to avoid the whole lap situation.

The gel is the stuff that made me mess up my connector. When you go to take off the connector you will notice that it is on pretty tightly. It is because of the gel (what i call glue). When you go to disconnect the the harness from the stick dont pull on the wires. Pull from the white piece that houses the end of the wires that connects to the joystick. Thats pretty common sense but it can easily be over lookedā€¦especially at 1amā€¦lol. But yea the gel is the sticky stuff on the white connector. Youā€™ll see it when you go disconnect the harness.

why would you have to drill into your table??? The bottom of the stick has rubber on all 4 cornersā€¦I played the stick on a table and it dosent move a inch.

will the JLF-TP-8T fit this?

someone plz answer
