any one having a hard time gettin the mounting plate off the MC stick, the screws are so tight, and are stripping…and it s pain in a nuts.
When I try and pop in the replacement buttons they dont fit flush with the stick…is this normal or should i smash them with a hammer?
Well I don’t know about a hammer, but I pounded them with my fist a bit. Another thing that can help is to file down the plastic under the lip of the buttons. Just take a nail file and file some thing layers off.
hmmm…cant get the wires off some of the buttons
is there any easy way to do this?
Is there any reason that the Seimitsu LS-56 wouldnt’ fit in the SE?
I’m scrambling to figure out what I need to do in order to mod my stick now that LL can’t support the demand on the JLFs.
I want an octo restrictor gate but that is for LS-56 - I don’t want to order that and find it doesn’t fit an LS-32 - or order an LS-56 and find out it won’t fit.
LL isn’t answering their phone anymore and they don’t respond to any emails asking for help so I’m at a loss here.
^are there any other spots to get parts to mod the stick? Seems like the ones posted stop taking orders??
5 Pin connector
So I start disassembling my SE Stick and everything is going well. No stripped screws or anything. I unscrew the joystick off and I’m about to disconnect the 5-pin connector. I notice there’s a thin layer of glue or sticky stuff on it. I use a flat head screw to pry up the flap a little and started to pull it out. The 5 pin connector doesn’t seem to want to disconnect so I start pulling on it a little more.
I’m at the point of pulling it where it seems like I’m going to break something if I pull harder and it still won’t come apart. Any suggestion? About the thin layer of glue, should I do something about it?
I need some help. I changed out the crappy joystick on the SE madcatz and put in a LS-32-02 but while taking out the 5 pin connector. one of the wires snapped out and wont go back in the connector. Though, the Ls-32 came with its own 5 pin wiring harness, the other end doesn’t have a connector just open wires hanging out. how or what would i do to connect those to the main board? Do i have to solder?
Here’s an image so you can understand what i’m talking about

For the above poster you need to resolder the wire to the pin. Really not hard if you don’t know how to do it take a look online I am sure there is some guide somewhere.
I just wanted to post because I saw comments that people are stripping screws first it is one of two things. There is a rule for unscrewing Phillips head fastners that is always go for the largest size that will fit, if there is any play when trying to turn it is not the right size Phillips head. Other than that everyone who works on anything from cars to electronics should have an impact screwdriver, not expensive and will save you from stripping screws in the future: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=37530
Cheers and post more pictures! I am getting super frustrated with my d-pad and am looking into building my own box but I think I would do like a carbon fiber top plate with color matching buttons hmmmm…
I just got my replacement buttons and stick in today…should I be worried that one of my Sanwa buttons base clicks in and out a little on the back where the connectors are? I noticed it when I was putting the connectors on. I didn’t finish yet, so I don’t know if this is going to be an issue when all is said and done…
Thanks for the guide, man. I followed your instructions and had my stick modded in about 40 minutes.

Sorry about the lack of creativity.
You could try taking a flat head and prying it from the connectors a little then pulling it. I’d be careful though.
Well, the buttons all work fine, but my new stick isn’t registering when I press down. Is there anything I should check, or am I screwed?
edit
OMG - I figured something out on my own for a change! I disconnected my stick and checked out the connector. Some of the glue actually was blocking one of the holes where the pins went in. I took my smallest (smallest) screwdriver and scraped it out. Plugged the stick back in and it works! Hope that helps someone else out.
Thanks for the write-up! It was definitely worth it.
Now if only I knew what to do with these extra round pieces that look like washers. Should I have put one on the inside of the stick?
yes i took out 2, 1 broke in half, and 1 is stripped to hell… kinda pissy cause thats the only screw holding me back from taking off the mounting plate… dont know how to get it out though:shake:
what i did was use my thumb nail and try to cut the glue off. then used my index finger nail and pryed the flap up and just pulled both apart. guess u could use other stuff instead of ur nails though lol
Sorry if this has been asked already. Will the crappy stock SE stick take a Sanwa Octagonal gate? I ask because I’ll have a spare thanks to another stick I ordered coming in DOA (not Mad Catz).
I’m eventually putting Seimitsu parts in it but I just wanted to play around with it to see the difference.
Yes it does. I had a sanwa octagonal gate on my OG SE Stick and it fit great. Getting the square gate off was a little tough. Just use a flate head screwdriver to pry it off. I am currently using an LS32-01 on my se and it is much tighter and more responsive than the madcatz stock stick.
i’ve got both restrictor plates in front of me and their measurements seem to be exactly the same, so yeah the GT-Y should fit the se
EDIT: call it blasphemy if you like but it works

but be prepared to use a lot of force pushing the restrictor plate into place… in the end it will work
EDIT2: wow, sorry for the crappy image but u should get the idea… there were times when i actually liked the quality of my mobile’s pictures
Thanks guys! Yeah, I spent at least 10 minutes getting the original gate off to glue down the washer. I’m aware of how much fun that is. I may just use my MC parts to make another shoebox stick.
These may seem like daft questions, but I’m going to ask anyway.
I have decided to take the plunge and mod my SE fightstick with a Sanwa stick and buttons.
I’m going to purchase a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT. I hear the TE has the JLF-TP-8YT-SK, which is the same only with a cover on the shaft of the stick. Is this even necessary or can I do without the cover? I don’t feel cosmetically it looks any better or worse…
Second question: I’m going to order from gremlinsolutions.co.uk. They don’t say if the stick comes with a restrictor plate/gate do I need to buy this seperately? I gather the actual “TP-8YT” part of the stick’s name denotes this, but I can’t see it on the pic on their site…
Yes, I AM NEW TO THIS.
I’m also pretty new to this whole thing. But from taking apart my SE stick, without the restrictor plate it would make things very, very loose (no restrictions obviously). So anyway, this leads me to believe the restrictor is as essential a part as any.
YES IT WILL HAVE A RESTRICTOR PLATE. (probably square)
