hehe yeah and that fat pair of legs belongs to me xD
hi,i just replace the buttons and the joystick to sanwa.when the 360 is up the stick pointing down.any ideas??
Turns out, once I got it open, that most of the points are labeled on the PCB But i had to get creative to try and find a point for the home button. The 360 half of my mod is still inoperable.
Alright so I got my shit modded yesterday and it was an epic pain in the ass. (Cue the Indiana Jones music)
So I got the quick disconnects for the first 3 buttons just fine⦠but then there was the next one. Maybe someone in the Mad Catz Indonesian sweatshop dropped some superglue on that motherfucker, but It took me an HOUR to get it off. I basically had to rip the damn disconnect off of the button. Then I got desperate and put oil on the QD. From there I tried to pry the sides open to not much avail. It FINALLY came off. So I finally get all the buttons in and quasi flush with the face of the board.
Now it was time for the mounting plate. In order to just use the 5 pin connector that comes stock with the stick I decided to switch the plates from the stock part to the Sanwa⦠Well apparently the last screw on the Sanwa plate was made with some Play-Doh alloy because it stripped faster than a $5 hooker. So now Iām kinda heated⦠I was just going to say fuck it and go to sleep. Then I got an idea. The plate that comes with the Sanwa stick will mount into the body, but itās just that you have to rotate it. It also comes with a 5 pin connector with solderable ends. So (ironically enough I was watching MacGuyver at the time) I just switched the leads to the appropriate directions and mounted it after turning it clockwise. From there I just superglued the solderable tips into the stock 5 pin connector.
Shit works but the difficulty was top tier. It wouldnāt have been hard in principle except for the āQUICKā DISCONNECT FROM HELL! and liquid screw.
Hereās a picture.

Nice job!
Iām hoping when I get my parts to mod my SE that the buttons are screwed up as well. I had the same liquid screw problem, except with all of them⦠I ended up getting screws from Aki along with my parts to solve that problem.
The only hard part hopeful will be getting the plate back on, those screws at the bottom also suck -.-
Has anyone tried a P360 stick in this?
Wouldnāt fit. Itās base is practically as tall as the stick housing.
Thanks. Going to go buy an SE stick tomorrow and am browsing this thread for ideas on how to improve itā¦
First thing is do the washer fix, unless you have another stick already, as youāre probably a month out if you order one today.
My plan for my SE is to make it PS3/360 compatible, new Sanwa buttons and stick w/heavier spring and GT-Y and the always controversial bat top. That should give me a nice compromise between the American style controls I was raised on and the Japanese ones that seem to be the thing these days. If it works nice on my SE Iāll do the same stick mods to my TE and probably call it good there⦠well, maybe some cooler color buttons too.
Washer fix? Can you explain that? And the GT-Y? Iām sure itās been elaborated in the thread but I may as well ask awayā¦
This would be my first stick EVER to mod, and the guide in the first post seems very newbie friendly. Just sucks because I have a P360 stick Iāve been using FOREVER and it wonāt work on PS3. Probably will get the bat top too since Iām used to itā¦
Sure, Iāll try to address the points in order the best I can!
Check the MadCatz SE Problems/Defects thread for info on the washer fix, it really just involves disassembling your stick and gluing a washer in place. Not hard, but you need to be careful you remove and reassemble the parts in the right order.
The GT-Y is a octagonal restrictor. While I think Iām pretty used to a square one by now, somehow I think Iāll prefer a rounder feel. You might too coming from a P360.
The SE is a very easy stick to work on, probably easier than even a SFA or Pelican Real Arcade stick, because of the modular plug on the stick and the QDās on the buttons, and itās been a very gentle introduction into the ways of Japanese style arcade sticks for me, and a real eye opener to the advantages of Japanese style controls, although some part of me will always love the American style Happs sticks and convex buttons. Clunky, but oh so solid.
I had a dual stick panel that used P360ās once, very nice, but heavy compared to the very light feeling JLF sticks. I still think I prefer the Competition over the P360, but it was still silent and nice.
The bat top is almost a must for me, as a ball top just doesnāt quite feel right to me, but itās an easy switch I can make back and forth anytime.
I need some help in choosing the color of sanwa buttons and joystick.
I have attached some pics of other peoples modded SEās to show what I kinda want my SE to look like
My 3 choices in no order are:
1: Blue LB-39 with all blue sanwa buttons including the last two buttons.

2: Red JLF with all red sanwa buttons including the last two buttons.

3: Same as the 2nd choice but with a Orange LB-39 but I donāt know if itāll look weird with a orange ball and red buttonsā¦

Thank you for the help Gunstar! Iāll buy the stick today and just hold out for parts I guessā¦
So I got my buttons in and my JLF but for some reason it only registers the direction downā¦any ideas anyone⦠Im desperate
Sorry for the double post looks like I had the connector on the jlf upside down but now it will register every direction but Upā¦any ideas??
how do you remove the plastic guard from the bottom of the joystick iām eventually going to replace the stick but need to adjust the inputs and spring for now.
I guess I should also say that I didnāt realize how bad the stock Mad Catz stick was until I poped in the JLF. My move success rate has dramatically increased after popping it in.
check your micro switch. might be DOA.
NP man, hope you enjoy it!
Your talking about the gate right? Take a flat head and push a tab in, and use your finger to pull it up a little. Repeat for the 3 other tabs and you should be able to get it out.
