So i was trying to install my LS-32 on my SE, after i got everything in place I started to screw on the stock screws BUT the fuckers wouldnt screw all the way in the holes? So I got a drill, and while trying to drill them in one screw broke in half have the top nut but the other half is in the hole and the another screw completely stripped WTF! None of the screws go completely in at all per installing my LS-32, but they do go in for the stock stick mounting plate.
Seems to be some issues with quality control on the mounting brackets that Madcatz put into the SE. I had no issues at all, but Iāve run into 2 other people that canāt mount LS-32s into their SE sticks. We looked at it and found that none of the side mounting plate holes were threaded correctly so the screws werenāt going in them.
One suggestion that came up over the course of the night was to use self-tapping screws; Iām not sure how that worked out for the other guys (Iāll find out this Friday) but itās an avenue that you might want to pursue.
Those self tapping screws worked out well but I was only able to do them to the middle row of screws. I had to use a washer off of the stock mounting plate screw on the middle right one (closest to the 5-pin connector) and even then it hit the metal plate but not enough to show any shag on the other side. Then 2 washers were used for the middle left one that hits the plastic pillar and that was a bigger pain in the ass. The top and bottom rows had the threaded holes partly on where the mounting bracket bends so even when I used the self tapping screw it always went in at an angle so those there left alone.
YMMV but ironically removing the buttons and joystick took no more than 15 minutes for me with no hickups until this.
If you have to use a self tapping screw, use the #8 x half inch with either a Phillips or flathead top. I found a bag of 4 for a dollar at Home Depot; a #8 size is roughly 3-3.5mm in diameter if that helps.
i started moddin mine today got all the buttons in.
started to take the mountin plate off and a head stripped right off.
i know some one said they were soft but this felt like it was made of butter.
im gonna order another mounting plate and go to an electronics store and get some replacement screws.
OK I got my JLF-TP-8YT-SK today and swapped out the sticks. I popped it in the PS3 and it doesnāt register the joystick. All other buttons work fine. So I put the original stick back in. Same thing, no response. Anyone have this issue?
edit:// nevermind. It was the POS joystick cable they gave you. I cleaned out the glue from the connector and it was happy.
I plan on modding my PS3 SE. I am totally new to joysticks and hardware modding so I have a few questions before I order.
I am replacing the joystick with JLF-TP-8YT-SK and I was thinking of using 5 Sanwa OBSN-30 and 1 OBSF-30 for the bottom button by the joystick so I do not have to dremmel anything (since I have not dremmeled before) and ordering 2 Seimitsu PS-14-D-N solid black (since Sanwa does not have solid black) for the L1 and L2 buttons.
Will I notice any difference with the 1 Sanwa snap-in vs the Sanwa screw-ins?
Any big difference with the 2 solid black Seimitsu vs the Sanwa?
Also any difference in joystick PCB placement between akihabarashop and LizardLick(since they say it is the same as the SE for drop in placement) or are they the exact same at both sites?
Thanks in advance for any comments or help.
No, once theyāre in both types of Sanwa play identically. I did basically the same thing you are planning.
The Seimitsu do have a different feel to them, yes. If you want the buttons to all play the same the best you can do is the Sanwa black/dark hai snap-ins.
Go by the joystick model numbers. The same model # will be the same at both shops.
holy shit wtf did madcatz do to get those screws in on the mounting plate? 2 of mine are stripped completely, another is out and the last is broken in half. since LL is gonna be shipping my new stick on the 30th of next march i figured iād drop my current sanwa in here but i needed that mounting plate, now iām fucked again.
i threw away my old mounting plate for my sanwa a long time ago but would it have worked? idk if the stock mounting plate is necessary or could i use the one sanwa plate?
just wanted to let you know that Iāve finished my SE mod thanks to this guide!
I used all Seimitsu parts, namely:
1x LS-32-01
6x PS-14-G-BK, red
2x PS-14-G-BK, black
Installing the parts was fairly easy at first, but pulling off the āquickā disconnects required some getting used to For everybody attempting this: Try to pull in the middle of the metal end where it is thinner than everywhere else. Should come off with very little force!
When I got all the buttons out I put in the rightmost buttons first (the black ones in the picture below). Then I continued placing the first red button in the RB hole which was no problem at all but the next four buttons gave me a hard time⦠They didnāt fit into those goddamn holes. I thought āyeah right, itās commonly known that MadCatz screwed up this thingā, so I thought it was the button holes being too small. After measuring I realized that the holes were fine but all the other red buttons I had were bigger than the black ones -.-
As I wanted my layout to have 6 red and 2 black buttons I had to scratch off about one millimeter of plastic in total circling around the buttons⦠In the end it was faceoff between me and the A button⦠OK just kidding, this was the only red button which slid in without a problem
Having all the buttons in there the Seimitsu stick was next on my list⦠I wasnāt sure which way I should put it in so I fiddled around with it and stuck it in there. I realized the mounting plate had to be moved 90. This way I was able to put it in with the 5-pin connector facing in the same direction as the stock MC Stick was facing before that and then fastend the 2 screws left and right in the middle of the mounting plate. Then I reconnected the 5-pin connector the same way it was on the MadCatz Stock Stick and tried if it works. It didnāt
All the buttons worked fine but the joystick only registered Down as an input⦠I realized that turning the 5-pin around it might solve that issue and it did
Now Iām good to go and learn how to play with that amazing Joystick! 1st few hours were actually easier to get used to than I expected. I thought it would be harder since Iāve grown up using the SNES Pad
