iGaboru - Yep you got it. The octagon gate will work for any of the JLF’s.
Yeah i noticed that the JLF lists as being either 4 or 8 way, but i ordered an octagonal gate anyway… did i not need to? I see that the stock gate on the JLF is clear in the center, whereas the optional gate has a gold colored center… hmm
yeah, i’m not an expert on the subject but from what I gather, the real arcade part is the JLF-TP-8YT-SK-W (which is just the 8YT with the shaft cover kit, and i’m not sure what the W stands for). But that one and the 8YT shoudl have the switchable gate. I’m not sure what the differences between the octagonal and having the stock set to 8 way are though. I would think you don’t need it but I could be wrong.
As far as being exactly like the arcade version though, I believe the original sticks in the arcade cabs are all 4 way.
Apparently Lizard Lick is way behind on orders so it’ll be a while before my stuff gets here. I hear that there’s a issue with the washers on the stock parts that’s causing an issue with PCBs. What can I do to prevent that in the meantime while I wait for my parts to get here.
I’d search, but well that feature is offline
oh yeah there are a lot of people having that problem. have you not see the thread about it? Check it out:

on the first page (under the large pictures), one guy mentions his solution. I think there might be a few more posts about ways to fix it as well.
lol wow that’s nuts. Actually I’m not even going to worry about it. I thought they were saying it was fucking with the main PCB. Since I’m going to pop in another stick anyway I’ll just let it ride. If it fucks up then I just wont play for a while.
If the stick was set to 4 way you would be playing on a pacman cab. You can’t hit the diagonals if it’s set to 4 way.
maybe i’m not getting the terminology right then… is gate different from restrictor? From what I remember reading about there were people complaining about the ‘square gate’ like it felt too restrictive, and they were moving to an octagonal one. Is that different then the 4/8 way restrictor thing?(and hence some people’s desire for the GT-Y)?
That’s all kind of confusing…cuz people are saying they have a square gate, yet obviously you can still do diagonals.
EDIT: ok, i get where I was messing up the terminology now. The terms “gate” and “___-way” are two different things and I was using them interchangeably- my bad.
Will Sanwa OSBN 30 push buttons fit or will it require lots of filing down of the nut for them to fit?
Thanks for helping out
they all fit except the bottom leftmost button which needs to be filed down because it’s too close to the mounting bracket. Check out this video (whole series is pretty sweet)

wow thank you for taking the time and writing this guide. Very very usefull.
would replacing the stick fix my problem which is…
the joystick just wont work entirely.
I just realized that in the picture in the guide on the first page- on the one that shows how to remove the ball top of the stick, there is an octagonal gate on the stick- then in the next picture it’s the original square gate. Was the picture of removing the ball top taken after the stick had already been modded, or does the SE actually come with an octagonal gate?.. I know the TE comes with a square one, so that would be weird- but the pics thew me off.
SE has a squaregate
- Will a JLW fit?
- Does a JLF-H 5-Pin Wiring Harness (as sold on LizardLick) fit the internal harness?
I’d like to know this as well…
So I got my SE yesterday and after a few hours it stopped registering the motion to move right. So I took the stick apart and I pulled the 5-pin connector on the joystick off. I made sure to hold the white plastic and to NOT pull from the wires, but I could tell one of the wires in the harness was not making contact with the joystick. Anyways, long story short, trying to fix that issue made the matters worse and I’m hoping somebody can explain how to use the harness that comes with the JLF with the SE stick. I don’t know how to solder though!
Yea think about a square [_], and you’ll see it has diagonals. When it is in 4-way mode it is in the shape of a diamond, which doesn’t. Having played with the square restrictor for a bit I’m glad I’ve got an octo on the way. I just can’t get used to this square gate after having grown up an Arcade Rat in the USA. For anyone who has spent any serious amount of time playing in Arcades; I’d expect you’d have the same issue where the square gate just feels clumsy.
I’m also not entirely comfortable with the ball on top yet, so I’ve got a bat on the way as well, but I can see some potential for the ball. It makes doing fluid finger gestures a bit… umm… hrm… I don’t know how to describe it. It just feels like less of my hand/wrist/arm has to be involved all the time. I’ll keep at it and see if I can master that, but I could see no benefit to the square gate.
Search function is disabled, sorry if this was answered already.
Can Happ pushbuttons fit inside the SE? Is there enough vertical clearance to make this work? I see that Lizard Lick has them on sale, and I really like the feel of concave buttons. I’m trying to decide between Happ and Seimitsu, as I don’t like Sanwa’s rounded-ness. If Happ doesn’t fit then my decision gets really easy.
For reference, I am talking about the “Happ Pushbutton with Horizontal Microswitch”, 4th from the top on this page:

Thanks in advance
Sorry Mechajesus. Not enough vertical clearance…
Cool. At least that makes my decision real easy… gonna go with Seimitsu
