How difficult would it be to dual mod (PS3+360) an SE starting with a PS3 SE, versus a 360 SE? And do both solutions require soldering?
Howās the fit on all of those buttons? Iām looking to get translucent Semitsu buttons that are also screw-ins and wondering if itās a pain to get them in place especially the bottom left button.
After trying to fix the crap stock stick I decided to hunt down a sanwa. Luckily we have a local arcade machine parts distributor. So I went down there asked for a Sanwa stick.
Guy had no idea what I was on about. I new they distributed Tekken cabs so I ask for stock joystick for tekken 6. Which isā¦ a brand Sanwa stick! Sadly with no mounting plate. They also stock Sanwa buttons too (Good to know)
First I try and remove the screws to pry the stock stick from the stock mounting plate. Two come off, one breaks, one comes halfway and stops. I buy a hacksaw spend ages trying to hacksaw through the screws while trying to bend the plastic back. Why glue MadCatzā¦ WHY!
Canāt find the right size nuts and screws in 3 hardware stores. Find a model store with the right width screws but too long. Hacksaw through the screws to make em right length.
After a half a day of pissing about I got the sanwa stick installed. Stick is WAAAY better though. No missed dragon punches and can super cancel from both sides a breeze. Makes me wonder why Sanwa donāt make their own sticks for the home consoles.
nice post, got a quick question, can i use seimitsu ps-14-kn buttons?
:u: Yeah you can, but it might require some work to get the button closest to the joystick to fit.
Even though itās not the same, but does anyone have any info on how to mod the TE stick to work for the 360 and PS3? Iām getting the 360 version today and PS3 TE stick next week, but if I can mod it to work on both Iāll only get one.
Thanks
If you have a JLF-TP-8 instead of an 8Y, would the directions still correspond correctly when you connect the SEās wire harness? I can see that the prongs are on a different side of the PCB on each of those models, but if itās only an orientation issue then nevermind. On the plus side, the photographs make it look like thereās still enough space for the harness.
Pic in case nobody knows what Iām talking about:
anyone else having trouble squeezing in sanwa buttons? how hard should i push in? i feel like i already broke my microswitch
They fit in pretty tightly but if you just press firmly, they will get there. If you are worried about breaking the switch, push on the rim of the button instead of the center.
I had to remove the mounting plate to turn it and reinstall, but thatās really not hard at all. Adds about 1 minute of install time.
It looks like the orders on my TE stick didnāt come through, but I picked up an SE so I think Iām going to be fine with that. Thank you for this guide. Right now Iām gonna get some SFIV in, but when Iām done with my marathon I think Iām gonna put in orders for new parts. Thanks to your guide I should have an easy time with it.
If you want a dual platoform stick you MUST get the 360 one and mod it to work with PS3 as the 360 has encryption on all input devices.
What youāre looking for is a āCuthulu boardā. I forget the guys name, but one of the SRK members makes them.
Couldnāt they use a PS3 stick and put a 3rd party 360 controller PCB in there?
Great thread, thanks.
so after 2 hrs of working on it, i finally got my buttons in. the joystick was a ease to get in, but the buttons were so hard. i probably ruined the snaps but i finally got them in i also modded the joystick with a semitsu spring on top of the jlf spring.

Looks good!
thx. it was my first time modding a stickā¦i never realized how hard these buttons are to get in, my fingers are all blistered up and i havent even gotten to play street fighter yet haha
So Iām kinda new to the whole modding scene but I just want to make sure if the āSanwa JLF-TP-8T Ball Handle Joystick, 4 & 8-Way Adjustableā will fit into SE Fightstick and since Iām only going to be replacing the joystick would I need any other part or is this just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.- Sorry if this has been posted before.
Yes it will but, youāll most likely need to rotate the pcb 90 degrees.
Yes, but that would be more expensive, require cracking open another controller, and soldering. Cuthulu boards have quick disconnects.
It would not be more expensive, Hotobu. They might lose out on a headset jack though. Plus like you said, extra soldering is more work.
Hi Guys,
Im looking to replace the stick in mine (which is in the post now!) and would like to know the difference between the Sanwa Joystick JLF-TP-8YT and the JLF-TP-8Y?
Is it just that one comes with a mounting plate?
Also people who have replaced the sticks seem to have cool see through balls on top of the sticks, where do i get them from?!
Cheers guys, great thread!
