The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

I think there is one scene in A Serbian Film that tops that movie. Which is the baby scene. Though it doesn’t show a whole bunch, that shit was beyond disturbing. Nothing in any movie has actually had me repulsed. One could say that its because I am a parent, but I don’t think that is the reason. That whole scene was simply fucked. But Martyrs was just a good movie, and shows that there can be art in Horror.

I watched the Scorsese version of Cape Fear last night. Not really a horror film, per se, but definitely high on suspense. I dug it, even though it was pretty hokey.

Yeah it wasn’t bad, had a nice atmosphere to it.

Going to check out Resident Evil Damnation tomorrow.

Park Chan-wook’s (Dat Oldboy) English speaking debut, Stoker, is due out on March 1st 2013. Trailer got released and looks promising,

Everyone needs to go see Resolution, I saw it at tribecca a few months ago and absolutely loved it. It’s a drama, a buddy pic, black comedy, psychological mystery, and especially horror film all wrapped as one and as entertaining as it is original. If you can find it watch it ASAP!

Been seeing alot of bad reviews for VHS. Going to watch it soon once it’s done downloading. lol

Really, I thought it was pretty good. A lot of horror nerds are considering it a hit. Plus you have Ti West with his hand in it, so its will be at least decent.

I’ve been watching a lot of Horror movies lately. If you haven’t seen Pontypool, then I suggest checking it out. it was really good. Weird, but good.

Watching it now, almost done. The audio really hurts my head and its not the video quality, its the movie itself. Hasnt been scary so far, actually more funny than anything to me. It’s like a Tales from the Crypt rip off kinda.

Yeah, I don’t think it was meant to be scary. I think it was just supposed to be a good Horror anthology that kind of made the movie fun. Also the sound quality is on purpose because of them trying to give a more “dated” feel.

Should of just made it a series like Masters of Horror.

but its ok, def not something id pay to RENT for $10. That’s how much it is on Google Play right now. lol

I watched this today. I didn’t expect a lot out of it, but in the end, I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to anybody who appreciates horror. Could have trimmed some of the extra shit though. I am hoping the DVD comes with extra movies like the ones shown in this movie.

Yeah, didn’t care for the glitch killer in the woods or the alien one, the others I thought were great though. The exorcism seemed cheesy at first, but I really liked the visuals when the house turns on them during the escape.

I agree with you on that. The glitch killer one was just weird and the alien one seemed silly. The vampire bitch, husband and wife and exorcism one was extremely fun. I think Ti west did a great job directing the husband and wife one. I was actually creeped out by that.
I recommend people watch Pontypool, Kill List, The Orphanage and The Cabin in the Woods (just to break up the seriousness of the other three films). I am trying to watch a horror movie a day, until Halloween. Today I will be watching The Descent (though I have seen it before) and will write a review on my tumblr. Anyone have any other suggestions?

If you haven’t seen Audition or Zombie (you probably have though) then I suggest both of those. A lesser known one I like to pull out is The Dead Pit, think zombies in an insane asylum. Not the greatest zombie film, but the place is very dirty and almost condemned looking making the atmosphere very uneasy and the sound FX/music also help sell it. Dead and Buried and Alice Sweet Alice are pretty good too.

EDIT: This trailer looks like it was cleaned up, the lighting in the movie is much darker than this.

Hmmm I will check these out. And yeah I’ve seen Audition (Tekshi Miike gettin his weird on) and Zombie. I am more of a fan of Ghost movies as opposed to the gore/shock stuff (but those are good too). I liked Pontypool because the concept was so different (an virus that infects the English language). But yeah I actually need to gather all my horror movies and see what I want to watch fur the rest of the month. I thought about reviewing A Serbian Film, but honestly I don’t want to watch it again (same goes for The Human Centipede movies). Oh well, I will try to keep it interesting.

Out of the scenes in VHS, the one with the doctor and chick was my favorite. She was a good actor and really pretty

and that part when the door closed had me laughing for a good 20 minutes, I actually started laughing when I saw that kid appear.

Whoa, Crossed? As in the comic book series?

Gawd. Such uninspired, childish, such shock value cheese. Had to put it down.

~TG, Yahh… it bad.

Exorcism and Succubus were really good. Glitch Killer was good…until you see the glitch killer. Second Honeymoon was fucking weird as hell.

Which one are your referring to as the Alien one? The one with the girl Emily?

Near Dark!!!

Also: Attack of the Killer Klowns From Outer Space

Near Dark, completely forgot about that. Hudson, Vasquez, and Bishop as vampires.

Yeah in VHS, the dude using the girls to harvest embryos for the aliens. I did like how they attempted to use it to explain people who flip out when they find objects under their skin, but overall it was kinda weak compared to the others.

yeah I have seen those (Killer Klowns being one of my favorite horror movies of all time).
Here is what I have on my list to watch and review this month (keep in mind I have seen all these movies):

The Descent (already posted my review to my tumblr)
Prometheus
Beyond the Black Rainbow
VHS
Killer Klowns
The Orphanage
28 Days Later
Pontypool
The Innkeepers
The House of The Devil
I Saw the Devil
Grave Encounters
REC 1-3
Hellraiser
The Shining
The Mist
A Serbian Film (though I am not watching it again)
The Loved Ones
Detention

So as you can see, that is all I have so far. I will be adding things as they come to me though.

Near Dark is one of my favourite vampire movies. REALLY rare to see a Western combined with a Vampire movie. The only thing that kills it is the horrible ending.

Don’t understand how barely doing a blood transfusion doesn’t allow the remaining vamp blood to whup your normal bloods ass
