The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

Exorcist III is awful. Just like Godfather III.

Watched Green Inferno. What an awful stupid movie. If you haven’t seen it, I highly suggest you watch it. It’s like a grade 10’s attempt at a horror movie.

Takes a little long to get to the village, then when u get there, it’s a hall of fame of facepalming.

Only horror movie I have enjoyed this past few years, was Cabin in the Woods.

You might wanna check out 30 Days of Night if you liked 28 Days Later. Also ABC’s of Death part 1 is really good, only a few shitty letters unlike part 2 which was only a few good letters. The Descent isn’t half bad either, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose was good from what I remember. I hated all the latest devil/exorcism movies, but IIRC that one didn’t fall into the current shit standard.

I quite enjoyed The Thing prequel as well. Has some CG but for really disturbing pay offs. Lots of practical effects too though, and all the fire scenes were with actual fire. A lot of attention to detail as well like where that two faced fucker comes from all the way down to way there was a random axe stuck in the wall.

Was the thing a prequel or a remake?

I think Exorcist 3 was better than the original. I agree with Cabin in the Woods at least.

Good post 2000 horror:

Chasing Sleep
Session Nine
American Psycho
Subconscious Cruelty
Shadow of the Vampire
28 Weeks Later (28 Days Later sucked)
30 Days of Night
Wrong Turn 2 (Henry Fucking Rollins)
Three Extremes
The Descent
May
Friday the 13th Remake
A Serbian Film
Martyrs

Off the top of my head:

Starry Eyes
Tales of Halloween
Trick R Treat
It Follows
The Babadook
Cabin in the Woods
Pans Labyrinth
Last Shift
We Are Still Here
Deathgasm
Let The Right One In
The Bay
Lake Mungo
VHS
VHS2
You’re Next
The Guest
Inside
American Mary
Evil Dead (2013)
The Descent
Dog Soliders
Slither
Pontypool
The Shrine

There’s a ton of great newer horror movies that rely more on tension and suspense than cat scares and Hostel-esque torture scenes.

Prequel

Man, i could not stand the first 10 minutes of Babadook. Something about little bad ass kids with annoying voices. I could not endure it to make it to any good parts.

I forgot House of the Devil.
Probably because it looks exactly like an 80’s movie that I keep forgetting it was made in the last 10 years.

Can someone name 5 good mainstream horrors from the 90s?

Scream
Lord of Illusions
Candyman

Ughhhhhhh… Such a bad decade.

Silence of the Lambs
IT
The Blair Witch Project
Event Horizon
From Dusk Til Dawn
The Frighteners
Seven
Jacob’s Ladder
Misery
In the Mouth of Madness

It wasn’t the greatest decade, but when you look back it wasn’t THAT bad.

Cemetery Man
Audition (1999)
Dead/Alive AKA Braindead
Se7en
Alien 3 (fuck you, I liked it)
Jacob’s Ladder
Baby Blood
Exorcist 3
Nekromantik 2/Schramm (tossup)
Dust Devil

Honorable mentions:

Screamers
All Night Long Trilogy (Yes, I know there’s three more movies)
Lost Highway
Cronos
Predator 2
Stendhale Syndrome
People Under the Stairs
Tales From the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight
Bad Moon
Ebola Syndrome
Untold Story
From Dusk Till Dawn
Devi’s Advocate (fuck you, I liked it)

Jason Goes to Hell
Hellraiser 4

Event Horizon, Tremors, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Dracula (the badass one with Gary Oldman), Pit and the Pendulum, The People Under The Stairs.

I think Saw started all the torture movies. Forgot about American Psycho, and Pitch Black. Pretty good movies, just not scary.

Good lists.

But just goes to show how many non-classics there.

The only like classic horror movie from the 90s that will be remembered is Silence of the Lambs, mostly cause it won a lot of awards. And horror movies winning awards is mostly unheard of.

Seven other 90s horror movie that will be remembered cause of the good cast it had. I didnt really care for it.

“It” was boring if you arent scared of clowns. And maybe the worst ending ever.

Most all the 90s horror movies are not scary at all.

Nah, a bunch of them will be remembered especially The Blair Witch Project seeing how it popularized the found footage genre.

Actually surprised no one included John Carpenter’s Vampires, I always liked that movie dunno how others feel though.

I didn’t like John Carpenter’s Vampires. It’s been a long time since i saw it, but I blame it mostly on James Woods. And the most inefficient way of killing vampires, ever.

Blair Witch wont be remembered as a classic, since a lot of people hate it.

I haven’t heard fuck all about the Howling remake in like half a year, I hope that shit still has legs. I needs me a proper werewolf movie.
