The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

Anybody see the third VHS flick? Gonna download it when I get home, hopefully it’s better than the second one.

It isn’t, the weakest entry overall. Its a shame but hopefully they can fix that in the next film.

Anthologies, and then ones that are a series, will always have some dud stories in them. This one just seemed to have a lot.

I’m still too pussy to watch The Exorcist.

lol my older half-native half-brother convinced my parents to let him see that when it originally came out, and literally pissed himself out of fear.

SISSY BOY! GO BACK HOME TO MAMMA SISSY BOY!

The VHS flicks don’t look too good but if I can recommend an obscure (but great) anthology horror flick I’d recommend From a Whisper to a Scream AKA the Offspring.

Nightmares is a sweet antho film I used to rent with my dad all the time, outside of the last story they are all fun.

One has Emilio estevez battling an arcade machine so that’s cool.

I ended up watching The Shrine the other day. I have to say the start was a bit slow, but once they got into the main setting overseas the suspense really didn’t take long to kick in. The gore was great, and i am an absolute believer on “if you didn’t see the ending coming it was a good movie” philosophy. Please give it a watch through to the end, i promise you will not be disappointed.

8/10.

The only thing i could knock it for, was the start of the movie i felt could have been reduced in the plot. I think the movie should have dedicated more time on the creepy setting by just jumping into them arriving, but perhaps they felt it would take away from the climax. Check it out, it’s on Netflix currently.

I saw that a few years back, was a fun watch.

Yeah, I was watching this movie with my sister but we stopped after the cross scene because it was traumatising.

It’s complete shit, if you haven’t seen it yet then don’t…what has been seen can’t be unseen. I have to ask though, you didn’t like part 2? I thought the first skit was ok, second was great, third was better than all of part 1 combined, and the last was just megh.

Funny someone mentioned The Shrine, I just watched The Ruins after reading the book last week. As in most cases the book was better, but the movie wasn’t half bad either. Just wish they went more into the psychological torture the victims go through from not only their situation but from the vines themselves.

That intro was the shit. Stuck with me long after I forgot the name of the movie. Night of The Rat was my favorite segment.

Night of the Rat is good until the climax, with the photo imposed Rat all yukking it up. Its still worth a see just it was handled by another writer, rushes into production to pad the film, and not as thoroughly thought out.

The suspense of it is nice up until the final moments at least.

My favorite segment was The Benediction with Lance Henriksen. Pretty awesome look to it and modernizing idea of a Priest trying to escape his demons. Plus I wanted that pick up truck for such a long time lol.

It Follows

Got to catch this from redbox the other day, man it was creepy. If you guys haven’t seen it, definitely check it out, it will trip you the hell out (i recommend being sober for this one). I don’t want to give away the plot because i feel like it will take away from it all.

I give the movie a 6/10 mainly due to the music selection, and cast. I get the feel they were going for as far as time/era-wise but i actually hated that era’s music/clothes. Retro games and jordans are the only things i can stand. The characters did a good job on being what they cast to be, some stupid scared light skinned kids. They do so good of a job, you don’t entirely have any remorse for them because of how stupid their characters are.

Finally got around to seeing this, I thought it started out fucking awesome but it lost me towards the end. I loved the music, loved the characters, loved all the old school 80’s touches. My biggest problem was the movie’s consistency though.

Spoiler

For instance, this thing is like a juggernaut, it simply never stops coming for you, so why was it just chilling in the movie theater watching them instead of coming at them relentlessly? Also, do bullets hurt it? Why did they decide to try electrocuting it in the most comical way possible? If the kid with the crush on her was the safest alternative, why did she fuck so many people beforehand? If you fuck someone but don’t finish, does that count? What if it’s oral? What if it’s a threesome? What if it’s two lesbians without penetration? I wish the movie had a stricter set of rules that way we could see the kids have to work inside those parameters. Sorry for the rant, it’s just that I feel the movie could have been near perfect with just a few small changes, still really good though, and miles better than most modern day shit.

Well, a year later and I’m gonna attempt this again tomorrow after work. Haven’t read anything about it, no idea if it’s epic, shit, or middle of the road…don’t care.

Saw Green Inferno…fuck that pile of shit. I’m still reeling from disgust to elaborate, but if anyone wants to hear why I will. In short though, don’t bother with it in any capacity.

Disgust from how bad it was, or disgust from how gruesome the shit was?

Cuz It wasn’t that bad.

Spoilers plot details to me, I have no intention of seeing it in theaters anyways.

Just curious if it follows the same tired tropes all Cannibal films do with more pancakes involved.

Looking forward to Tales of Halloween which is another anthology coming out October 16th.

Also waiting impatiently for Nina Forever to actually get shown in the states or VOD or SOMETHING.

No interest in Eli Roth anything ever.

[details=Spoiler] Pretty much follows the same formula. The first half of the movie was great, you get to know the characters and quickly decide which ones you can’t wait to see tortured. One girl is a whiny bitch, another is a back stabbing cunt, some douchebag guys, etc. Shoot to the plan crash and the initial attack sets what you think the tone is going to be. Once they arrive at the village as captives I was genuinely engrossed, they did a good job of setting the mood in this sequence. First guy has his eyes gouged out and tongue cut out which are eaten by the tribal elder. She then has the tribe hack to him pieces while he’s still alive, awesome scene, I was completely drawn in at this point.

Second half of the movie starts which revolves around the rest of the captives in a cage. This is where the movie starts to rapidly deteriorate. I’ll try to make this short, but we are treated to one of the girls taking a comically long shit with fart sounds and the native children laughing at her and waving their hands to fan the smell. It broke all tension from the movie and was completely out of place. Next ridiculous scene involves one of the girls slicing her own throat. This would have been fine, but one of the other guys had a bag of weed on him. They plant the bag (a very small one) on the dead girl by jamming it down her throat. The plan is when they cook her the natives will get high and let their guard down so they can escape. Sad part is, it works. This small bag completely intoxicates 100 or so cannibals and they all fall asleep, but not after a comical scene of seeing them doing goofy shit.

Skip ahead a bit, they get recaptured after escaping and the one guy awakens to a bunch of the cannibals staring at him while he’s on his back. They are still high so he thinks he’s safe. They then proceed to bite him and he screams out “Oh shit they have the munchies!!!” They run him down and eat him alive with minimal gore shown during the sequence. It ends with a small native kid running out of the pile holding one of his legs.

Throughout this movie they foreshadow female genital mutilation back at the college in the main girl’s class. She’s the virgin of the group so they decide they will cut her clit off. When the big scene finally comes the village elder is distracted before slicing it off and eventually the girl escapes again. Fucking hell. She makes it out alive, main bastard guy is left alone in the cage, obvious nightmare sequence after she gets home, then a final mid credits scene setting up a sequel. Oh I almost forgot, one of the guys jerks off while being held captive in the cage. I didn’t go into this expecting a masterpiece, but the comedy parts destroyed this for me and it wasn’t unsettling, scary, or even that gory.

Ok rant over, sorry that went on for a bit, just my 2 cents.[/details]

@Skeletroll so standard Eli Roth fare?
