Nah, called having taste sir. Well…as much taste as one can have in Horror.
Horror wrap-up, I watched: V/H/S 2, Shakma, Nightmares, and Child’s Play 2 in the past week. Nightmares and Child’s Play obviously rewatches for me, but the other two were new.
Shakma: One of those early 90’s direct to VHS movies, but before direct to became like…completely fucking terrible. This film has Roddy mothafuckin’ McDowall in it doing his usual thing, but to me his star presence adds a touch of professionalism to the cast. The other known cast members include Tina from Nightmare on Elm Street, and the dude from Blue Lagoon who’s face never seems to age.
Anywho, plot is a test experiment Baboon escapes during a lockdown at the tower, where these people are playing some science version of D&D. Stupid set-up aside, they must now deal with a crazed simian out for DAT ASS. Honestly, I have no idea how they got the baboon to do some shit, or how they did some of the special effects. The baboon must have been snorting crack because he would just go ham on a door and throw himself against it, shrieking and freaking me the fuck out. Then when he attacked people I don’t know how they managed that, because it looked like he was actually murdering them. (On IMDB, some members of the cast this has been their only film…maybe it did).
I’d like the story behind all of that but I doubt it would be an easy thing to find. Special effects are cool and practical, dude got his eye torn out by the monkey and the corpses look good. The only real negative I have is the film runs way to long and Blue Lagoon guy really hams it up as a maniac Rambo later on, other than that it has a solid B-movie vibe to it. All I know is I won’t fuck with baboons in the near future.
V/H/S 2 was about what I expected, but unlike the first there was some characters I actually gave a fuck about this time around. The individual stories were pretty cool, I felt even though they all treaded familiar ground, they took a unique approach to it. I especially enjoyed the third act, and felt the wrap-around was more interesting than the originals. Overall pretty cool, I like it about as much as the first and hope this series continues forward with the same quality.
Oh, and if anyone knows the ending song hook an SRK’er up, was enjoying it. EDIT: Nevermind found it
