The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

Finally saw Evil Dead and it was… okay.

[details=Spoiler]One “actress” that really stood out for the wrong reasons was blonde girlfriend of that dude. If this chick’s acting was any more wooden there would be termites crawling out of her vagina.
Her reaction to getting brutally sexually assaulted by demon bitch was one of mild annoyance rather than sheer terror.
Also, she must have a seriously strong threshold to pain because she barely made a peep as she was cutting through her infected arm with the electric knife, then suddenly she seemed to remember that she should scream and even that didn’t sound convincing.

It was a shame when the nurse chick got killed. She was cute.

The big “reveal” of “him” coming out of the ground was a big let down. Instead of being some bad ass looking demon beast, we get yet another random possessed girl. Seriously, what the fuck was that??? For something that is supposed to be the ultimate evil, she sure was slow and clumsy, almost as slow and clumsy as our “hero”.

The tree rape scene was a lot more intense in the original and they used cheap practical effects to achieve it.

I guess when a demon is driven out of you all that pesky self-mutilation instantly goes away. Convenient.

Saw Lords of Salem, so far my early contender for worst movie, that I saw so far at least, for 2013.

Hit up the Chiller con again this Sunday, snagged a Grindhouse shirt, Zombie Ass DVD finally hit, and a resin kit of the famous zombie from the box cover of Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. All and all a nice way to bounce back after my shitty Saturday.

Post a pic dude.

Watched Megan is Missing. Some bad acting but some chilling scenes especially the photos and the finale. Definitely a girls worst nightmare scenario.

Shit Chillercon would have been cool, +1 for posting pics.

RE sale on PSN so I got RE1, RE3, and RE6 to playthrough. $14 is like the limit I would pay for a crappy B-movie for chuckle thrills so RE6 fits right in there.

Here’s a pic of someone who finished theirs, not too fond of their end result, I’m gonna do mine more accurate to the way his color scheme was in the movie, but this is the kit.

I also finished my movie Pyramid Head kit not too long ago to go with my SH2 version Pyramid Head.

Pretty nice kits, though I just hate any SH after the fourth for obvious reasons. I remember seeing the Zombie kit in Horrorhound but not up close, has nice detailing on it.

V/H/S/2 hits tomorrow. I might be in the minority here, but I loved part 1. It had a few weak spots but it was one of the better horror movies I saw last year. Definitely excited for this new one, look like an straight up alien abduction, some sort of Japanese cult, and a giant monster of some sort. Gonna be a long shift at work tonight waiting to get home tomorrow to see it.

I’m down to see creative uses of GoPro cameras.

Insidious 2 trailer is out. Did they retcon the last five minutes of the movie? lol

Saw Chernobyl Diaries.

With such a good filming location of actual Pripyat and such a good huge overlying topic, they didn’t do it enough justice. Not only was it the sleazy and half-assed writing, but the blue-balls that Peli gave the viewers of the big nonexistent monster reveal.

On The Profane Exhibit, it seems Uwe Boll is directing the first short film in it.

Instant dissapointment.

Just watched V/H/S/2, some quick thoughts. Didn’t enjoy it overall as much as part 1, only 4 skits this time plus the main one which wasn’t as good as the original’s. First skit is kinda weak, guy gets an eye implant which allows him to see dead people, nothing to write home about. Second skit was awesome, just think first person perspective of a zombie attacking people. Third skit was by far the best, reminded me of a mix of Silent Hill and Siren in Indonesia. Final skit was an alien abduction done pretty well, but a bit anti-climactic coming off the third.

It’s criminal how superior “Safe Haven” was to the other shorts. It was amazing. The first short had potential, but quickly ran into cliche city, in a really negative way. I think it would have served far better if they had a chance to actually develop the idea a little further. It was fairly weak and super predictable. Zombie GoPro was really good. The last skit was…okay. I think they went overkill with the vfx. It was really annoying to watch.

The main thread in this story sucks as much as it did last time. The only positive was that they didn’t dwell on it to much.

Overall, I think I like this one way more than the first, on the account that I don’t outright hate any of the shorts here. Even the first one, which was the weakest link, did interesting things.

I thought the main thread was better, if for nothing else than it had fewer people to keep track of and they were far more likeable.

Safe Haven was without a doubt the best, though, and should have been last.

I want to check it out soon, and put my opinions up. If anyone wants a nostalgic chuckle Goosebumps season one is on Netflix, been watching a few.

Got Nightmares again, the film with various short stories that is one of my favorites. If you get a chance to check it out please do, I’m sure everyone knows about Emilio Estevez in Bishop of Battle but the other shorts (Barring the last one) are very good, Lance Henrikson one is my favorite.

I saw Hatchet 2 on Netflix. This wasn’t nearly as shitty as I thought it would be. Good old fashion practical gore effects and nods to various classic horror movies, plus it has Tony Todd and Kane Hodder.

First was better, I can’t stand Danielle Harris and what she thinks passes for “Acting” I can scream and look constipated as well, where is my check. I dread seeing her return in III, but at least the cool gore and old throwback/nostalgia is a more powerful lure than she is as a ward.

Got V/H/S 2, will give it a watch when I wake up.

As long as the VHS sequel is better than the Grave Encounters sequel. I can’t take that level of disappointment again.

I haven’t seen the first one and Netflix doesn’t have it. I hate it when they have a sequel, but not the original. :bluu:
You’re right about the girl’s lousy acting and terrible “country” accent. Seriously, how hard is it to do a country accent for these actors?? It’s not that difficult!

Finally saw A cabin in the woods yesterday after always skipping it cause I thought it was cliche.

BOOOOOOYYY was I wrong. One of the most surprising and best horror movies I’ve seen. It’s soo deep and soo engaging. Everything about it was well-done.
