The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

I will be down to see this sometime this week. Hopefully theres a big crowd so I can hear everyone squirm at all the gore bwahaha.

Saw the Evil Dead remake. Only thing it has going for it is gore. Glad this kickstarted Evil Dead 4 (or Army of Darkness 2) though.

is it certain yet? Last I heard, Campbell shot it down at SXSW. But that might have just been him shooting down the Evil Dead remake meets Army of Darkness 4 idea that is being tossed around.

Not really Horror movies, but I feel this is relevant to this thread. These French guys are really taking to Horror core. They even did a trailer to their album. See if you can name all the movies shown. I got maybe 4 of them the first try (those were obvious though).

Here is an indonesian horror game that you can support on their indiegogo page. It’s called Dreadout and it’s similar to Fatal Frame in that you will take pictures of ghosts. Also don’t watch the trailer if you are gonna play the demo because it just has a bunch of those youtube lets play celebs just screaming their asses off, so it might ruin your own experience of the demo. It looks promising and its also on steam greenlight if you want to check it out.

Also if you are playing the demo, and see the colors on the side of your screen, try looking around with your camera. You’ll get a glimpse of things you can’t see normally just like fatal frame (or just look at the tutorial and it’ll tell you what the colors mean. Hit escape then go to tutorial to bring it up.)

Spoiler

When you confront an enemy, it seems there is a period of invulnerability they have, so mashing on the phone isn’t as effective after you get the first shot. If you time the shot after the fire effect goes away you can catch them after it. Also asian chicks always run slow in these motherfucking games

Was so hype for The Awakening, ended up left with nothing but disappointment.

Music was meh but in case you’re curious I can name most of the clips:

Candy Man.
TCM.
Street Trash.
Dead Snow.
Phantasm.
Evil Dead 2.
Looks like some SOV flick, possibly made by the band or affiliates of the band judging by the BMX footage.
Beyond the Door.
Incredible Melting Man (I think).
It’s either Slumber Party Massacre 2 or 3. One of them was a musical slasher picture.

I thought it was Incredible Melting Man as well, but its actually Slime City. The super low budget film is called Punk Rock Holocaust. The others were pretty easy (Tall Man = Phantasm). Street Trash had me stumped though. My buddy had shown me Dead Snow a grip ago. It was Slumber Party Massacre 2.

But here is Slime City.

And here is the trailer to Punk Rock Holocaust.

Saw Evil Dead yesterday, pretty mediocre IMO, even the gore was kinda blah, I’ve seen better in direct to Netflix movies at this point. The after credits teaser was kinda cool, but overall I was laughing at most of the “gory” scenes that other people were oohing and ahhing at.

EDIT: Also, what’s up with all the home invasion type movies coming out soon? I saw 3 trailers all dealing with this, is this Hollywood’s new kick ATM?

The characters really killed the Evil Dead movie for me. Wrong actors and wrong characters.

My best advice to someone who hasn’t seen the movie would be to avoid the trailers (adverts and everything) at all costs. Go in blind, because the gore is actually the high point of the entire movie but also the main emphasis in its advertisements. If you watch the trailer, you’ve seen 2/3 of the best shocker moments that the film has to offer. Everything else is kind of standard, I wont say bad.

Finally saw The Blob (1988), great movie I’m definitely impressed.

The other day I saw Memories of Murder which is another brilliant korean film but its not really horror, more towards crime/thriller/drama…

Off to Lords of Salem tonight, may god have mercy on my soul…and patience.

Fucking love DA BLOB! Also love the original with Steve McQueen, hell even the sequel wasn’t bad. Just something so corny yet creepy about them, 88 remake had some spectacular special effects.

Downloaded a demo for Resident Evil: Revelations on my 3DS, try out the single nub game play and see if I can handle that well enough.

Saw MaMa last night and it was an ok movie, but it suffered from being too “Hollywood” if you know what I mean.

Mikami coming back to save mainstream/AAA (fuck both these terms…but they apply) horror games with, The Evil Within. Everything about it sounds GDLK, and I trust his direction the way I trust certain directors not to fuck up films. It seems like what he was attempting with one of the prototypes for Resident Evil 4, only realized and not a terrible fit for the series. It looks like what I was hoping that a proper Resident Evil 4 sequel would look like, and some of what I thought they were going to do with 6.

-Big Body nemesis like stalkers on your ass
-traps that they can use on you and vice versa
-LOW AMMUNITION and zero focus on huge ass guns
-Shifting environments/items/etc on some Silent Hill and Eternal Darkness shit
-Ultra Oppressive atmosphere

The list goes on, but this is going to be a long ass wait until release. I hope to see a gameplay trailer at E3.

Watched Megan is Missing. It’s message really couldn’t be in your face any closer. I think it suffers from some of the interaction with the kids, but it’s not a bad movie. I thought it was going to be way worse than it was, having someone describe it to me. Still, the last 20 minutes are ultra fucked up. I just knew what was in the barrel when he walked past it the first time. :frowning: All in all, it’s okay. Not something I would watch again though.

How is the Lords of Salem? I pretty much despise Zombie’s output, but the premise has captured my interest.

Just saw Grave Encounters, not bad but I have to accept that I’m just weak against shaky cam movies, they tend to make me feel sick, resulting in me enjoying the movie less…

I saw Megan is Missing quite awhile back and I recalled thinking it was boring except the pictures… caught me off guard, kinda fucked up, especially

the one with the mouth stretcher or something iirc

Anyone know much about The Profane Exhibit? I just found out about it and it sounds deliciously evil. I can’t find the trailer online for it though I hear its pretty gory.

I learned about it from a youtube channel (Mr. Parka) and you can find more info about it on its Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ProfaneExhibit

Not sure about a trailer though… Seems like it doesnt have one yet

http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/65113/tony-todd-and-bai-ling-join-profane-exhibit-more-details-segments

google sent me to some horror site and a forum and people say there is a trailer but it isn’t on youtube due to its graphic nature.

Profane Exhibit is still in production but there might be a teaser made from one of the stories in the film. I know it’s being produced by Uwe Boll BUT it will have a segment directed by Ruggero (Cannibal Holocaust) Deodato.
