Anyone seen that Collection movie yet?
It was decent. I never saw the previous movie, The Collector. Maybe I would’ve enjoyed The Collection more if I had. But it wasn’t bad.
Was looking up some horror movies online trying to see something new.
While not exactly new (it came out in 2011 i believe) I decided to watch Grave Encounters since it got alot of good reviews and I do have a thing for found footage horror movies nowadays.
I was pretty disappointed by it to be perfectly honest. It was basically an hour and a half of this-

Seriously, thats where all the scares came in and it seemed very amateurishly done. Kids have been doing this on youtube for years so I don’t know why someone would think it would fly in a actual movie that was supposed to come out in theaters (no idea if it did or not, i remember seeing trailers for it but i think it went straight to dvd).
Well besides Dead Space there aren’t any truly great horror games out now. Amnesia is still definitely the best one I’ve played so far.
Check this out it looks scary as hell and has a really awesome concept:

Yes, yes, yeeeeeeeeees! They even kept the tree rape in!
That looks cool. I definitely would like to try it out once it releases. It’s an interesting spin because normally once you have the means to combat an enemy they become much less scary but doing in a way that you have to prepare for the inevitable seems very unique.
Some indie games that I tried are 1213 and White Chamber. 1213 is like the old flashback game and is split into 3 episodes. It’s very interesting but id you don’t like the clunky controls it might not be worth it for most. White Chamber is a point and click adventure game. It is short but it reminded me a little of Event Horizon since it’s set on a desolate space station.
Forcing the player into an inevitable encounter with an unknown threat at an unknown time is deceptively simple. What if you get attacked while sleeping, or when picking up an item, or what if attacked from behind? What do you need to kill it? Where would be the most advantageous place to fight it in? The fact that the game forces the player to ask these kinds of questions among countless others speaks volumes about the genius and pure horror it oozes from it’s pores. I’ll be really pissed off if this amazing idea is fucked up by shitty execution. A game that attempts to prey on players fears of a paranoid nightmare coming true is just too good of an idea to squander. Also I really love the fact that you have to fight it at some point, so you can’t hide or run or negotiate with it and since it’s an unknown entity so far no matter how well prepared you are or how heavily fortified the house may be you will never feel safe until it’s dead.
There is only one game I’m more hyped for because it has everything I could want in a horror game. You probably seen it already but in case you haven’t and to get it more attention anyways and I suggest reading the interviews in the link.

The Invader looks awesome, looks like a game I would actually buy.
People forget, it’s usually the unknown that scares us more then anything. People aren’t scared of Darkness itself, but of the things done in Darkness.
The Invader prides itself on this. We have no clue why this monster, this *thing *is invading your home. It’s the simple stuff that scares people the most.
I watched all the videos of the horror games yet to be greenlit on steam and although none of them look as promising as Routine or The Intruder these are all still worth checking out for horror fans:
Dark Matter -Basically it’s metroid+survival horror and while it doesn’t look scary there’s something creepy about it
Haunt -The only good “slenderman” game I’ve seen so far
Infected -For anyone who complained about Resident Evil 4-6 being too action oriented now you can all shut up and oh yeah moving while firing is in
Room 1313 -Chase yourself?
Asylum -The title says it all, mental hospitals are always fun settings for games
Dream Eater -Dream monster VS cult
Huntsman: The Orphanage -Slenderman+creepy kids
Enola Sounds like a carbon copy of Amnesia:The Dark Descent with colors
Jacob’s Ladder: Man, such a creepy ass movie. It’s good to finally see the movie that the Silent Hill series references (a lot). That scene when he’s in the hospital had me looking like . Everything about that segment, including the dialogue, was super unsettling. I’m super pleased that outside of one scene, he didn’t make a spectacle of the demons. Nowadays, the director would have been all SEE THE BUDGET WE SPENT ON MR. ABLOOGEY WOOGEY WOO. LOOK AT THE VIDEOCOPILOT DEMON FACE WARP. METH ADDICT FACES ARE SO HIDEOUS SEE! That shit would happen over and over again, and I would have cut the fucking movie off. The best example is with the nurse/secretary, when she drops her hat. It’s brief, and on screen just long enough to make you go, “oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.” As for the storyline, I can’t in fair mind, rate it without it being tainted by my knowledge of Silent Hill and some of the story going into it. It’s good and confusing enough to keep me interested. There are lots of turns and it’s paced fairly well.
Creepy ass movie for certain.
Watched some of 1213 looks shitty to me, but I downloaded The White Chamber (freeware FTW!) played about 30 minutes of it and I love it. Nothing scary has happened yet I’m already creeped out by the setting and mysteriousness of it all, also love the vibrant colors. How do you find about these games?
Umm…Adrian Lyne directed Jacob’s Ladder not Lynch lol. I still have to respond to your post about Lynch’s work, being a Lynch fanatic and always trying to fluently understand the language of film I imagine when I get to it, it will be a long post lol.
I loved Jacob’s Ladder too.
I just browse gaming sites and surprisingly enough random vids on youtube. Sometimes I just keep clicking on related videos and browse through random ass videos. Yea 1213 isn’t gonna be for a lot of people, because it plays really outdated and is like that old Flashback game, which honestly controls like crap.
Since you like Amnesia have you tried looking at White Day? It’s basically freeware since the developer for it isn’t around anymore and there’s translation patches for it. You have to play on a higher difficulty setting though, since it effects things like ghost encounters. If you play on easy, you wouldn’t see a lot of supernatural stuff. Here’s the neogaf thread that introduced me to the game. If you install incorrectly, sometimes it won’t let you select the harder difficulty and just let you play on normal or easy. Though it’s a lot of work to get it running so it might turn off a lot of people from trying, since basically fans tried to do the work in translating and getting the game to work. I didn’t beat this game yet because it sometimes crashed on me and I forgot to save, so it annoyed the crap out of me and I just went on a steam sale spree.
Woops. I dunno why I thought it was Lynch. Lmao. Fixed it.
Managed to find Nightmares. Plan to watch it tonight.
I saw Tremors the other day (technically a re-watch but its been 10+ years since), I recalled loving it as a kid, the rewatch confirmed that I love it as an adult as well. Real fun flick.
Probably going to look for Tremors 2 (I’ve seen this one too), since I recalled it being not so bad either.
Went to go see The Collection yesterday, fucking awful. Pretty much every worry and concern I had from the trailer came to be true. It had none of the grit or appeal of the first one, and the story made zero sense. Reminded me of a direct to DVD rip off of Saw, but with even more ridiculous scenarios. I don’t want to spoil anything, not that anyone gives a fuck, but I have to mention that my friend I were laughing our asses off when we got to the zombie scene.
Once I saw “From the People who brought you all the shitty SAW’s” I was out.
That was a deal breaker for me. The first 3 were actually really good, afterwards it suffered from Elm Street syndrome where they made crap characters just so they could get killed off.
That said, I did like the shotgun merry-go-round from 5 though. (I think it was 5)

Thread died?
Plan to watch this tonight, heard its good

Being dragged to TCM 3D this Saturday. I plan on drinking heavily before going.
