The Horror Thread: Talk all things macabre

I think I’m going to watch The Bunny Game and see how that plays out.

My usual Halloween tradition is to watch Freaks and Nightmares in a Damaged Brain.

Yep that’s the one. I’ve seen it 100 times or more, but until now I only owned a shitty VHS copy. I would highly suggest hunting one down, mine was only $10.

Yeah when I land this job I’ll look into it, I keep hearing good things and I love classic Horror.

God, Nightmare in a Damaged Brain is so fucking badass.

Just watched the new Fright Night, prefer the original but I really enjoyed it. Tenant was fucking awesome!

That MAMA video posted last page…this one…

is this a movie thats already out or something? and they’re just doing a remake or something?

A movie that got into my radar recently

I’ve read a positive review about the movie, and Ginger (from Ginger Snaps) is in it! Haha

Cape Fear: Is this supposed to be serious? I did enjoy the cat and mouse concept, and wish they would have played up that aspect a tiny bit more. I also had my eyes wide open when the girl was talking to Deniro in the school. I thought she was dieing for certain. That said, some of the editing boggled my mind a bit, and it suffered from “dumb white girl/woman” syndrome a little to much for my liking. Unless I’m getting my movies mixed up, it seemed like Scorsese was going ham on the zoom lens. lol. Kinda want to see him do another horror/thriller.

Blue Velvet : Good shit AYO?!. This movie jumped to my favorites, easily. I really enjoy the atmosphere and a bunch of the scenes (when he got caught in the closet…) have stuck with me: lines too. Though, “Fuck Heineken, Pabst Blue Ribbon,” almost made me cut the movie off. I blame the current culture that praises it so damned much. Lynch is a funny ass dude.

Lost Highway: The fuck? I caught on to the twist a little earlier than I expected to. That found footage / surveillance on the VHS tape was creepier than damn near every found footage movie I’ve seen recently. Fucking shameful. It had a couple of creepy spots and the weird ass music lends to it as well. Dunno if I’ll rewatch it or not, but I enjoyed it.

Mulholland Dr.: Saw this when I was younger and didn’t really remember shit about it, so it’s basically fresh to me. Eh. Probably the least horrific of the three, but it had a couple of jump scares. I’m not certain how I feel about the arrangement of the story, nor the length. It’s good though. I appreciate the overall narrative, imagery, and again…the atmosphere. He’s gdlk when it comes to setting the tone.

Lynch loves erotica. lol. I’m not complaining. Jacob’s Ladder is next and Inland Empire, before I tackle Twin Peaks.

Question: Does he have some weird thing about women? The four movies I’ve seen from this dude Lynch and a female has been one of the main sources of discourse in every single one. Even women are taking the L due to pussy.

How is Boxing Helena?

Nope. IIRC, they made a short for a story they were working on. It got enough of a buzz, so Del Toro and his camp decided to lend a hand to them, so they could make a full length film, using the same concept.

Evil Dead remake, red band trailer (possibly NSFW due to gore):

anything good on netflix?

Dream Home was pretty cool, gory though.

If I haven’t said it yet, I highly suggest checking out the French Horror movie À l’intérieur (aka, Inside). That movie was pretty good, very gory, but really good. There is one scene that involves a riot gun and someone’s head, so yeah that movie is super good.

I tried to watch the remake not too long ago and I thought the same thing. The whole thing was so laughable I thought it was supposed to be a parody. Best thing about it was that Sideshow Bob episode of the Simpsons.

Boxing Helena is garbage. Lynch’s Daughter is a hack but it’s almost so bad it’s good though. Bill Paxton turns in such an OTT performance that I kinda’ recommend a watch based on that.

Check out Wild At Heart.

I watched Jacob’s Ladder for the first time on Sunday at 4 am because I couldn’t sleep. Needless to say, it scared me. It legitimately scared me. Best horror movie I’ve ever seen. Very very good movie. Why Tim Robbins wasn’t nominated for an Oscar is beyond me. If you haven’t seen it, go. Ignore the fact that it’s a 22 year old movie. It has aged very well.

Also, I thought this was a highly interesting watch because I’m sure I’m no alone in thinking that Disney makes some terrifying movies. To this day, I refuse to watch Peter and the Wolf. I cannot. I will leave the room if that comes on because it traumatized me when I was a child. I can’t watch it.

This looks pretty fucking crazy. Looks like they are gonna go all out with the tree scene too lol

The trailer makes me optimistic but you never know, a lot of Horror trailers are hella better than their movie counterparts.

According to people at AICN it’s supposed to be incredible. I was worried at first, but I will still check it out.

Necronomicon looks different though…no more face on the cover :frowning:

So I finally got around to watching the uncut version of Serbian Film. I can say this, I laughed my ass off more than I did any actual comedy this year. I had to rewind the “Newborn Porn!!!” scene twice. The movie was so trolltasticly offensive I couldn’t help but to love it.

Having said that, is there anything else out in the same spirit of Serbian Film and the Human Centipede movies? Zombie Ass is any day now, but anything else you guys can recommend in the meantime?

osgX I’m glad you made the smart choice of enjoying the absolute crazy weirdness of Lynch at face value instead of getting bogged down by all the confusing, ambiguous, hidden layers of narrative. Quite a few Lynch fans get so obsessed with trying to understandwhat every frame means they forget to enjoy his work on a purely cinematic sensory level as you did.

I’ll be happy to answer your question in a PM sometime though, there is a lot going on with that loaded question.

So I rewatched Evil Dead to remind myself how ncredible it still is. I would like conventional horror films if they were as good as this one.

Skeletroll try Salo and Cannibal Holocaust.

Watched one of the two Thanksgiving Slashers (That don’t take advantage of being set on Thanksgiving) Home Sweet Home. Fun piece of shit. Watch if you’re good at riffing.

Gonna’ watch Blood Rage in a bit.

Turn it off! Turn it off!
