The Hori PS4 VLX thread

I’m personally changing it from the Hayabusa to the Sanwa’s in both stick and buttons - it just feels better for me :slight_smile:

Yeah I still prefer the JLF lever over the Hayabusa. As for buttons, I prefer Sanwa but I dont mind Seimitsu or Hayabusa…just not the Kuro buttons, too much travel for me.

I just prefer Sanwa’s since no matter where you go, someone is using a JLF and OBSF-30 with a square gate :slight_smile:

The VLX is definitely not a travel-stick.
I brought mine once to my brother’s house for a day of gaming and it was a pain in the ass to even maneuver it around in his living room with the 5 other people each with their own sticks.

I use the VLX as an at-home-only stick, and I have a separate, much more compact, stick for travelling with.

Yeah have to agree. The VLX for me is a collectors stick, I’ll use it here and there at home, but since I’ve got a custom cabinet, the VLX sees little use.

My “travel” stick used to be a TE with a Brook PS4 fightboard, but I just recently acquired the Mad Catz V.S stick and that’s now become my travel stick - although it’s far from “small”, I just now need to find a bag for it

Yeah, I have a custom cab too, but since it only houses my spare X360, and my PS4 is hooked up to my bigger screen TV, the VLX sees plenty of use with SFV.
My current travel-stick is my old main, my ABS Modular stick; I’m wrapping up some mods (waiting for some parts to come in the mail) for a new/replacement travel-stick, so the ABS Modular will become my guest-stick (the modular aspect should come in handy for that purpose).

Wow! You guys are well equipped, my VLX is my main and only controller. If it breaks or stops working, I will replace it immediately!

I agree, regardless of what i prefer at home, I make sure I am familiar with Seimitsu and Hori joystick levers as well in the event I go to an arcade or somewhere without my personal stick. Home court advantage is me using my JLF w/ square gate and OBSFs. If you play SNK games and are near an arcade, get used to Seimitsu parts. Same goes for Hori parts if you are near Vewlix cabinets. At the very least, just know how to use a square gate and understand how to adjust when playing on a joystick with a stiffer spring and/or smaller gate.

Yeah, do you just need the cleaner or do you need the whole kit like I made for JannoDude?

Greetings. I’ve become fond of this particular stick after sessions at a friends house and have decided to commit to a purchase. I’ve a question though and hopefully someone can tell me what it is I’m looking for since I’m new to the FGC and its peripherals. He mentioned that the VLX ( Kuro ) I was using has a different lever, per say the Hayabusa , as the other older models have a Sanwa. Is there a particular Sanwa lever I should be looking for that only fits the VLX since it’s a different size? Or are all levers compatible regardless of the differences in dimensions?

The Sanwa joystick to get is the JLF-TP-8YK.

I think you should try get acustomed to the Hayabusa before you decide to swap it out. A friend of mine purchased his VLX and was contemplating swapping out the Hayabusa lever because he read “somewhere” that it was not Sanwa. I told my friend to keep using the Hayabusa until he made up his own mind about it, now he loves it.

Your friend is just Salty because his VLX didnt come with the Hayabusa. I’m sure that once you purchase a replacement joystick your friend will want you to sell him you Hayabusa.

@Edgar He would actually ask that lol. I am accustomed to playing on a Sanwa joystick because I’ve been playing on a TE Round 2 on legacy for about a month or so but I’m open to trying things so I will test out the Hayabusa joystick rigorously and see which one I prefer in the long run. Thanks for providing the model and advice.

@turban The joystick model I mentioned is the same one found inside the TE round 2. You can easily swap joysticks between the Round 2 and VLX.

Props for anyone who carries their VLX around. I also keep mine at home on a stand and use my other sticks for traveling.

@turban

Like what @Edgar said, experiment with both. The good thing is that the Sanwa replacement joystick is always readily available. Just unscrew the preexisting Hayabusa and everything should fit like a glove. If you choose to replace the gate to an octagon shape. The “Kowal” brand is the one to get (Hayabusa).

Heh I think you meant to put a comma there, about the gates.
Are you talking about a Sanwa joystick with an octagon gate, or a Hayabusa with an octagon gate?
Sanwa JLF +octagon (sanwa) gate is only good with the “Kowal” actuator. Stock actuator with octagon feels bad to me; throws are too long and the diagonals don’t seem to have enough response. With the Kowal actuator on it, the max throws are less (which is good), the diagonals are slightly improved due to the engage distance being closer, and the neutral zone still being the same.

There’s a kowal branded octagon gate for a hayabusa stick?

yep, available on focusattack.

@Falkentyne

A few pages back noted that with the Kowal Actuator and Kowal Octagon gate produces increased wear and tear. Maybe if you don’t ride the gate, you should be okay.

The whole kit, please. PM me with an invoice and your PayPal, and I’ll send you the funds. Thanks!

@Jannodude: Just found the category that PAS is hiding all their 24mm silencers under (surprisingly not under “Silencing Pads”, hmmm…).

Normal: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/button-stuff/877-paradise-obsfs-silent-24mm-pushbutton-pad.html

Extra thick: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/button-stuff/897-paradise-obsfs-silent-24mm-pushbutton-thick-pad.html

Looks like all the silencing pads they offer are on this page here: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/569-button-stuff

A couple images of the VLX I received yesterday:

First image highlights the dimples. In normal light, they aren’t very noticeable without looking for them, but with a flash…

Second, what it looks like now after my initial tinkering (ie, swapping buttons, balltop, and adding an octa-gate):

Now just the long debate of what to do for art on it.

(Unfortunately in my late night ordering of buttons, I forgot the options wasn’t a 30mm, so that also still needs to be changed.)
