The wait… the wait is tooooo long! Really excited for it to arrive!
hi there.
i was wondering how is it possible to change artwork on this one?
does anyone have a video about this?
Well, my personal experience tells me the VLX Hayabusa has marks resulting from the manufacturing/painting(?) process and VLX Kuro doesn’t, and I’ve seen similar comments a few weeks ago. It’s also been said that the painting is different, but this I don’t know (I haven’t noticed it, and I’m not good at evaluating this).

Have yet to actually try out the buttons, but here’s my crappy quality photos of the stick upon arrival and removal from the box. Reeeaaaally miffed about the post holes showing up on the front of the wrist rest, which are pretty obvious when it’s sitting right in front of you; it looks like something was punched too far deep on the inside. I doubt this is the sort of thing that A-S would replace for, even if they had replacements, unfortunately.

Couple of questions if you guys don’t mind.
- Hows does the new RAP VLX (Red) play compared to the older VLX’s?
- How’s the build? I know some mentioned it isn’t as good as the original, diamond, and kuro versions but perhaps the paint they used would hold up better?
- How are the Hayabusa (Falcon) buttons?
From what I’ve been reading so far I’m thinking of cancelling my order from play-asia since I’m stuck in “preparing order” hell and that they’re also pending new stock arrival without a date. Thinking of trying and track down a original Hori VLX and getting a brook converter for ps4.
My only problem with the VLX Hayabusa is the paint process for the front / top cover. Imperfections seem to show through much more than on the previous versions. As @Darksakul suggested, it may be that the tooling has changed so the “spots” are different and more visible. Aside from that, the stick is great and I love the new buttons. If you require a PS4 stick, I would totally recommend the Hayabusa over the Kuro. If you don’t need PS4 compatibility, you might be better suited with one of the older versions. I believe there will be less paint defects on those, than on the Haya.

- In terms of quality I think the diamond is the best vlx you can get since there are really no defects and since the top panel is stainless steel, its not prone to rust. The second in terms of quality is the og red since the paint is still holding up after so many years of use and there are no dimples on the top panel whatsoever. The third is the kuro because while its still good there are a couple dimples here and there that everyone got for some reason. The hayabusa is the worse of the 4 VLX. Everyone that posted pictures so far has these weird paint bumps on the top panel. The paint also does not feel as good to me. It feels a bit rough compared to the og red and the kuro. The one thing that I hate about all 4 of the VLX is the stupid door -_-. You have to be careful with it or it just drops right off.
2)The hayabusa buttons are actually pretty good imo. The only thing I do not like about them is the texture. They have this weird matte finish which I dont like. I do like them more than regular sanwa buttons tho. They are a tad bit stiffer so you they dont activate by grazing the button. The plunger also seems to return to neutral faster than the regular sanwas. The speed to neutral feels pretty much the same as sanwa RGs actually. The plunger also does not wobble when you double tap like the regular sanwa buttons. Its kind of like they took a sanwa rg button changed the texture and made it shorter.

Some are saying the build quality of the VLX Prem V is not as good as the Kuro - but then you get the nice Hayabusa buttons.
I had the same choice as you; I’ve opted for the Prem V because I want the latest thing, I like the colour scheme and I want to try those Hayabusa buttons. Hope that helps!

hi there.
i was wondering how is it possible to change artwork on this one?
does anyone have a video about this?
The most common method to change the artwork is to buy a reproduction panel and have it vinyl wrapped. @“Jasen Hicks” sells both of these products. You could also remove the stock artwork and apply the vinyl yourself. I have heard the artwork will come off of the panel pretty cleanly. There have been a few instances of people who modify the panel to accept plexi and paper artwork, but that is not easily accomplished and I don’t know if anyone offers the plexi / art service. To make the panel work, you would just have to drill out four of the studs and replace them with bolts. For a more complete look, you could drill them all out.
thanks for the quick answer.
ok it’s what i was thinking… so for me, if i chose this stick, that means i’ll have to stay with the original artwork.
Or get creative with making your own plexiglass like I’ve seen someone do before with a VLX.
This guy probably used some sort of lami-label I guess.

The VLX Kuro build quality is a bit higher…
same thing. just different buttons, different color plastic sides and panel artwork color. same pcb too?

I’m thinking they were probably made in a different factory and handled differently then previous VLX makes.
Splitframe bag or panel with artwork. Hard choice

Splitframe bag or panel with artwork. Hard choice
Or both. I’m thinking about it. I have the bag. Waiting for my (awesome) Astro 2P layout from Jasenscustoms.
the thing that can makes me decide myself.
do you think that in a few years, this stick will sell a good price? or did they produce too many for it to keep a good value?
It’s a well made stick and should hold its value ok, but the current Kuro and Hayabusa versions aren’t hard to find at all. I suspect they produced a lot more of them than older versions so the Kuro and Haybusa probably won’t appreciate in value like the older versions did.
ok thanks for this information.
in Europe they are still hard to find even if they produced more.
but it’s not surprising in the end that they did. the arcade stick market probably is 3 time biger than a few years ago, so they did probably adjust to that?
Planning to use this stick for life. Unless to a point that is unfixable
The Kuro, definitely not, since it is available in multiple regions. The Hayabusa should be considered more rare since it was released in Japan only, like the Diamond, they are just easy to find, right now, because of the multiple importers. I don’t know the actual production numbers of any of them though.
As a recent owner of a VLX (the Kuro), I’ll have to say that you should get one if you like it, NOT because you’re seeing it as an investment.
Overall, even the Kuro and Hayabusa versions of the VLX probably hold value better than any other retail stick out there, but that shouldn’t be that big of a determining factor in buying one. You should buy one because you like it and want to use it (or just collect it).
i own the first madcatz te for years and get bored of it.
i love this hori stick but its expensive =p

Worth the price tag lol
I didn’t buy for investment or resale value… bought to keep forever as a classic stick that can be modded forever. I gutted my OG VLX and mis-matched panels and frankenstiend a sparkCE optical pbc into a hayabusa lever.
I plan on buying a Diamond VLX just for the stanless steel and white panels to complete my stick lol.
Yea I too bought this stick to use forever. To future proof the stick to eternity I even got the following panel thanks to @“Jasen Hicks”. I hope he doesn’t mind me pulling the picture off his facebook.
The 6 buttons on the side is just for whatever crazy extra buttons come up in the future and I need extra buttons for whatever they are. 2 of them will be used for start and touch pad button for now. The other 4 will do nothing.
Is that just a piece of thick plexi?
