The Hori PS4 VLX thread

I’m not a lag specialist, but to me it feels any lag is minimal if there is any at all.

Hey, which do you guys think is more justifiable to buy the VLX kuro for $400 CAD or the VLX Prem V for $460?

Some are saying the build quality of the VLX Prem V is not as good as the Kuro - but then you get the nice Hayabusa buttons.

I had the same choice as you; I’ve opted for the Prem V because I want the latest thing, I like the colour scheme and I want to try those Hayabusa buttons. Hope that helps!

:s Just realized, importing it via play asia would mean i need to pay a tax and tariff fees… Would probably be another $80-$120 for the prem V

I’m in the UK. The Kuro actually worked out more expensive than the Prem V from Play-Asia! lol

Get the kuro in Amazon.ca. That was where I got it from.

I also bought the red from arcade shock with free shipping in the us.

If you want a better quality case go for the kuro. If you want arguably better parts then go for the red one. Personally I would choose the kuro and just replace the buttons and joystick because the quality of the kuro is so much better than the red one.

I agree, just swap out the parts. I personally think the new Red PS4 VLX does not have no better parts the the older Black VLX.
Get what ever Sanwa or Seimitsu parts suit you and your taste.

The only thing that I would like to add is that the difference in quality between the two cases is only in the small details. It’s still a 90% metal case and better than any other mass produced case.

Agreed 102%.

Only sticks that would out do the VLX is maybe the old Sega HSS-0130 or Jasen Hicks’ Panzer sticks

Can you use the VLX on your lap or do you need some kind of cabinet/table?

you can use on your lap, but its 13lbs so you will need to take breaks every 15 min or so to get the feeling back in your legs!

there is a foam pad on the bottom panel so its not uncomfortable and it definitely doesn’t slide or shimmy while you are playing.

You can do what ever feels comfortable to you.
Some people are fine playing with the VLX in their lap, others need a table or stand to set the stick on.

I think I should try em out. ATM I have ordered the VLX, the HRAP 4 and a MadCatz TE+. I don’t want to unpackage them all, to try them, so I will check them in box.

I am a beginner and highly attracted by the VLX, but since it seems to me, I would do fine with the HRAP 4 and the VLX is somehow a “collector’s item” with no real benefit considering playing it, but this “real arcade” thing.

But since money is no real matter… why not?

But I definetly will play with the arcade stick on my lap, so that’s why I asked.

I think I will only receive my answer, if I try it.

I use it on my lap for hours and it’s not THAT bad. That said, the thing is heavy, and I like it better with a small table as support.

IMHO the benefit is it’s so heavy that it doesn’t shimmy or move while mashing out… it stays put so you don’t get accidental jumps or missed blocks due to “thinking” you hit back but really you hit up-back or down-back respectively.

I’m not a genteel player so this is important to me. I’m sure that those more composed players will do fine on anything smaller and lighter.

the other benefit is the interior is deep enough to accommodate American Arcade style buttons and levers (HAPP/IL), which most enclosures don’t allow, if that’s your poison. not to mention that huge cavern can house 3 or 4 pcbs’ if you want to get your tri and quad mod going.

Yeah I ended up buying the kuro on Amazon. I’ll probably pick up the red one if it gets release in NA down the line. As of right now it’s too expensive shipping it into Canada

My red vlx came in today. I do see the little imperfections but it still looks pretty good to me. Definitely need to red buttons to go with it. Just need to hunt down a mint go red one now…

still not satisfied with it…its missing something maybe i should of went with blue buttons ?

Wonder how the end color on the right will look on the Kuro, almost looks like the same color as the top panel.
