The Hori PS4 VLX thread

Nothing is stopping someone from just bidding the initial price of $300. I can’t blame him for putting an outlandish BIN price. If someone wants to pay it, that’s their problem.

Ok, sorry for the delay. I have put it up for sale (downloading pictures now to use for the listing):

Hori VLX Aux Panel Kits

And because I felt it was time:

Hori VLX 1L6B Panel Pre-Orders

Hori VLX HitBox Panel Pre-Orders

** Thanks to those stalking my page and getting in orders before I even was able to post this or finish uploading pictures! **

Placed my order a few minutes ago, lol!

Beat me to it! Did the same thing lol

Just as I got my notification my tax return will be in soon.

That’s the primary setup that I’m used to. Just recently got a tv and a tv stand, so I’m used to playing everything on my desk, which is very well set up for this sort of thing. The width of the desk can easily fit two VLX units side by side.

As for when I turn around to the tv, I use one of these keyboard stands with the balance board from another VLX (otherwise, the smallest width is still too short for a VLX). X style keyboard stands work alright, but kinda wobble. I know some people just use tv dinner stands, but I think the Z-style keyboard stand is a lot more stable.

Ordered!

As soon as Jasen’s Brook UFB VLX rig is available I’ll be all over that… and I’d love one of his Sega P1 8 button panels. (As stated on Twitter - thanks for getting back to me Jasen.)
This thread is just unbelievably helpful. Thanks a lot guys.

Oh - one question:
Anyone who ordered the new VLX from Play-Asia, did they double box or ship in the VLX box itself?

They shipped it in the box itself. Mine has a lovely puncture wound now. Yay!

Its actually kinda of difficult to find a box that fix the VLX box. Anything that can cut shipping material cost, they will cut.
Great for the thrifty bad for collectors who wants to keep the box intact.

With the Other PS4 VLX order from Arcade Shock, they had a extra $10 charge for a outer box.
And with experience with shipping before, that $10 for a box is not as unreasonable as it sounds.

Try shipping a oil canvas painting that can’t be separated from it’s frame. At Fed Ex it’s $54 for just the box, and they will not sell the actual box to you.
They take the painting from you and box it themselves. You aren’t even allowed to touch it afterwards. As they on top of the $54 box charges you for the Shipping and handling of fragile freight.

Couple of questions if you guys don’t mind.

  1. Hows does the new RAP VLX (Red) play compared to the older VLX’s?
  2. How’s the build? I know some mentioned it isn’t as good as the original, diamond, and kuro versions but perhaps the paint they used would hold up better?
  3. How are the Hayabusa (Falcon) buttons?

From what I’ve been reading so far I’m thinking of cancelling my order from play-asia since I’m stuck in “preparing order” hell and that they’re also pending new stock arrival without a date. Thinking of trying and track down a original Hori VLX and getting a brook converter for ps4.

The original Hori VLX is going to cost you an arm and a leg

Hey Jasen, I know you said this was only tested on a PS4 VLX, but what are the chances this would fit in a PS3 VLX Diamond? You might have seen earlier that I was super interested in the Brook helper board - was hoping that this would solve that AUX problem! (Want to mod my VLX, but don’t want to touch the soldering iron at all here)

Hi,

I have a VLX premium black. I have some scratch on the panel. Do you know how to remove them ? Specific product ? Specific method ? Any help will be appreciate.

For info I have sold my Red PS3 VLX 1 year ago for 180Euro. Very very good state. Will not so expensive? Because the guy was a passionate from Paris, he loved fighting games, me too, so I did not make money on the stick…

regards
Arnaud

I was 80% sure that it was going to be shipped single boxed, I’m just disappointed that it was damaged during shipping. I’m not going to complain to PA because of it. In my opinion, they handled their business very well. The price was good and shipping was fast. I can’t expect more than that. Ordering from them, rather than Arcade Shock, on me for taking so long to decide to purchase the stick, and the AS preorder period was over when I did. I would have paid either company extra to double box, I understand the added expense.

That being said, boxes for these things really aren’t that hard to come by judging by the stack of them that I need to break down. There are other options than double boxing as well. I purchased a Red VLX from Solaris Japan and it came padded by bubble wrap and wrapped in thick paper; the box was in great shape. Will it add extra handling time and most likely increase the cost, sure, but it can be done.

If anything, I blame Hori. From all of the pictures I have seen, they ship the VLX sticks in pairs, yet their other versions, such as the Fighting Edge, are shipped in singles, double boxed from the factory. Come on Hori, step up your game! Speaking of the FE, the DB, that I posted yesterday, came with the outer box wrapped in bubble wrap as well. Vendors don’t have to just tape it up and slap a label on it.

My only problem with the VLX Hayabusa is the paint process for the front / top cover. Imperfections seem to show through much more than on the previous versions. As @Darksakul suggested, it may be that the tooling has changed so the “spots” are different and more visible. Aside from that, the stick is great and I love the new buttons. If you require a PS4 stick, I would totally recommend the Hayabusa over the Kuro. If you don’t need PS4 compatibility, you might be better suited with one of the older versions. I believe there will be less paint defects on those, than on the Haya.

I don’t have the PS3VLX to see how the connections are made up, what the pinouts are, etc. I’d love to assume yes it will work, but that would be foolish. There’s no real reason for them to have changed the board parts/pinouts, but theres also no reason to have them be the same either.

  1. In terms of quality I think the diamond is the best vlx you can get since there are really no defects and since the top panel is stainless steel, its not prone to rust. The second in terms of quality is the og red since the paint is still holding up after so many years of use and there are no dimples on the top panel whatsoever. The third is the kuro because while its still good there are a couple dimples here and there that everyone got for some reason. The hayabusa is the worse of the 4 VLX. Everyone that posted pictures so far has these weird paint bumps on the top panel. The paint also does not feel as good to me. It feels a bit rough compared to the og red and the kuro. The one thing that I hate about all 4 of the VLX is the stupid door -_-. You have to be careful with it or it just drops right off.

2)The hayabusa buttons are actually pretty good imo. The only thing I do not like about them is the texture. They have this weird matte finish which I dont like. I do like them more than regular sanwa buttons tho. They are a tad bit stiffer so you they dont activate by grazing the button. The plunger also seems to return to neutral faster than the regular sanwas. The speed to neutral feels pretty much the same as sanwa RGs actually. The plunger also does not wobble when you double tap like the regular sanwa buttons. Its kind of like they took a sanwa rg button changed the texture and made it shorter.

So no one wants to trade sides? :frowning:

I’d trade my black sides for white B)

As @“Jasen Hicks” pointed out in one of these threads, just use PlastiDip.
