The Hori PS4 VLX thread

Are you using the hayabusa joystick or a replacement one?

I use a LS-40-01 in my VLX as the the Hayabusa is too much like the JLF for me.

I bought the IL joystick mostly out of curiosity (haven’t played on an american/euro style joystick in ages and forget if i even like it).

I don’t have one anymore but used to have a Neo Geo AES controller and the joystick on that is a lot of fun to use. The Focusattack page says the LS-40-01 is popular amoung Neo fans… do you have experience with a neo controller and do you think the LS-40-01 is more like the Neo stick than the JLF is?

I guess this isn’t strictly VLX talk right now but mine’s only a couple days away from delivery and I’m super pumped. I usually prefer screw in buttons to snap ins so if I don’t like the Kuros after a week or so I’ll order some Sanwa screw ins. 90% of the reason I got this dang controller in the first place is so I could have enough room to install anything I wanted.

I don’t want to say that LS-40-01 is popular among Neo Fans per say, but there more Seimitsu fans among the Neo Geo Fans than their are Sanwa JLF Fans.
There are some who prefer the JLW or American/European style parts like Happ or IL.

Well The Neo Geo AES stick uses a modified Seimitsu LS-30, And SNK Japanese cabs normally comes with Seimitsu parts.
The LS-40 is a good stick, it has most of the Pros the LS-32 has without the gate popping issue.
The JLF might be favored by many of the members of the FGC its hated and despised by Shmup fans.

I Feel the LS-40 is a good all-around stick, decent for fighters, shmups, platformers and other arcade titles.
The only thing I even like from Sanwa is their JLW which is very similar to the LS-40 in terms of feel and that some of their parts are swapable.

Using the Hayabusa in my PS4 VLX and a JLF with Optical PCB in my Red VLX.

It helps dampens the sound for both sticks pretty well.

If you ever played on the old style Hori Real Arcade Pro 2-3’s then its like that, sound level wise.

The Industrias Lorenza joystick showed up, it isn’t the quietest for sure (or the most space efficient) but damn it feels nicer than I remember

Because yours is brand new and didn’t get beer, soda, cigarette burns and disrespectful teens abusing it 24 hours a day 7 days a week for years.

For those of you complaining about the Splitframe bag, I just talked to Vin in person and he said he has not seen any of the problems, nor has anyone went through the Splitframe contact to complain about these issues. He just joined srk about a month ago. If anyone wants help, email the support email on Splitframe.net

yep, that is a good point!!!
the hayabusa doesn’t feel that bad at all but i get the hollow feeling now. i’ll give it a week or two before i switch in the IL.
i was surprised when i got it because i expected the box to be longer, but it’s still nice and sturdy feeling. i thought it was going to be bigger though!

Hmm, after about 6 hours of nonstop use of my VLX for the first time (in a responsible manner, I don’t mash on the controls or rage quit/throw), i picked it up to put it somewhere else and noticed something was loose rattling around inside of it. everything still works fine… is this anything to worry about?

You could always… dun dun duuuun look inside it?

lol, i’m going to, but i hate to open it up so soon after getting it. guess i will anyways

One of the great things about the VLX is how easy it is to open. There are three thumb screws in the cable compartment, and the top panel flips up to get inside.

I’ve worked those thumbscrews out during the course of play a few times if they’re not a bit past finger tight.

any news on dual modding this thing yet?

been had dual modded
just need diodes on the lines I believe as explained a few pages ago
same deal as the rapv4

I went ahead and bought myself two just in case I mess it up. Lined the sides, the bottom, and the angled part of the top panel where the hinge connect. About to cut out holes for the buttons. Thanks for the link!

I didn’t realize the panel flips up when I made my last post. It’s a lot easier to open than I expected

Also I just am gonna keep the hayabusa in there. The IL is nice but I can do stuff on the Hayabusa with ease I could not do on other square gates. No idea why honestly. I really like it though.

I haven’t found the need to dampen the sound. I can mash on it all night long while other people sleep. I’ve been murdering people in 3rd strike with the help of my lovel VLX which I do not regret a penny I spent on.

np, can you post a pic of how you did it when you are done?

I understand, I’m thinking of a simple pcb add-on like how toodles made the kitty board for the older VLX sticks.

I’m not skilled enough to perform the diodes mod unfortunately.
