Has anyone got one of the Splitframe bags for these? Mine arrived today, and itās quite disappointing. Thereās a thick layer of padding on the rear side, and a thinner layer of padding - with a groove for the lever - on the other.
Seems like the thicknesses should be reversed, however, as the grooved portion isnāt thick enough - meaning that the lever causes a noticeable bulge in the bag (which canāt be good). If the lever-side was thicker, and the rear padding thinner, it wouldnāt be an issue.
Tempted to put the Hayabusa back in and add a Link to solve the problem. A shame after waiting so long and spending so much, thoughā¦
I got my bag a few days ago and Iām disappointed too:
As you say the padding around the Hayabusa seems wrong (Iāve left my Hayabusa as stock). You either have too much so it bulges and puts downward pressure on the Hayabusa or you can take it away completely but that leaves the top of the Hayabusa vulnerable to impact.
The inner lining actually scratches the stick! I noticed very fine hairline scratches on the buttons/metal paint and top plate after taking it in/out a few times (I got the bag so I could keep the stick in it at home).
My lining came with the bottom inner lining torn, just below the velcro strip (Iāve emailed SplitFrame about this and Iām awaiting a response)
The bag is BIG! Maybe this isnāt as valid a complaint and OK, the VLX itself is huge, but the bag still seems oversized. I guess this offers more padding but I would have preferred slightly less padding and a more portable case size.
I own one of the smaller bags. Although it is the best bag I have used made exclusively for an arcade stick, was expecting more for the price and hype.
Excuse the bad 'phone pictures (the slight bulge the balltop causes in the fabric of the bag didnāt come out) but, basically, once you take out the padding in the lever-channel, the balltop pushes against the surface of the back (the Velcro strip thatās left there) and has no padding (as well as pressure from the fabric of the bag).
If the padding there was thicker there wouldnāt be this issue. Itās possible that the padding āunderneathā the stick will compress/settle a bit and alleviate the problem, but itās still an oversight.
To be fair, the bag itself is very well made and, this issue aside, fits the stick perfectly.
Fortunately I managed to acquire two official Hori carry bags. The crazy part is it only retailed for $39.99. Anyone you find selling that bag will more then likely be the stick along with it.
Hmm- I still really want a stickbag for this thing as itās the only stick I use. The thought that Iāll have to spend another 30 bucks just to get the stick bag to be safe is disappointing.
Hi Team, I got the Splitframe VLX Transporter as well. I was also disappointed at first, especially compared to the modularity of their normal sized version, which my friend got.
BUT I must say, it did do its job. It JUST fits as a carry-on so I could take it to EVO easily. I am using a super tall IL Eurostick, so I had to remove the padding in that lever groove and the IL still bulged out. (I did fold that extra pad in half and shove it in while in flight) The padding in all other places felt firm and tough enough to carry my baby Ferrari around. The Shoulder Strap option wasnāt too useful imho. I used it in backpack mode, and could easily pick it up from the top using the flap which covers the backpack strapsā hide-away zipper.
There was no damage to the buttons, pcbs, or lever during the 8 hours and two layovers of flights to and from Las Vegas.
Most importantly it did work during competition, I didnāt have to struggle too hard or too long to remove it from the bag one handed, since you need the other one to hold the bag in place.
I used the two simple pockets to carry the PS360+ Xbox 360 RJ-45 cable, my cell, and my EVO pass⦠so I wouldnāt be left out. but really there isnāt space for snacks or drinks.
I canāt imagine a better way to carry this beast of a VLX around the world!
kudos to Splitframe for innovation and design (now they just need some customer service)!!!
btw I got two Serenity patches sewn on so there wouldnāt be any mixups! the main side pocket and main side flap can be sewn through easily while retaining all other functionality.
Is there a very detailed āfor-dummiesā Hori 4 VLX modding tutorial? Particularly about replacing the PCB and still retaining use of the top-right button panelā¦
Hi Team⦠physical therapy time! my right knee started to develop some issues!
having this beast on my lap for hours has finally caught up with my old bones⦠and after deducing all the possible reasons for this pain, I concluded that 13lbs does add unnatural stress and caused an old running injury to flare up.
But Worry NOT!!! (in case you havenāt seen this idea posted yet) you can instantly make your VLX into a stand-up arcade with a simple Piano Keyboard X Stand!
I have the World Tour Single X Keyboard Stand and it works great with the VLX. At second tallest height setting it will fit the VLX width, so my 5ā9" frame can play it standing with no issue. if I take it down one notch I have to use a wood plank but its great for use with a bar stool. if you decided to get a really long wood plank you could use it at its standard sitting height.
The stand is stable enough not to jostle around crazily during my manic game play.
My knee problem is abated and I can get that true arcade feeling in the convenience of my man cave!
Dude, this has enlightened me on how to get a āstand upā stand for my sticks (other than building it, which I canāt for lack of workspace). Good job!
Are you replacing this because of "the list?"
The only way youād be able to keep the touch pad is to maybe plug it into a dual shock 4, if it will fit. Everything else you can wire directly to a replacement PCB.
I like this idea a lot, actually! Reminds me of an old [Trading Outlet](Awesome fightstick ātableā for $30 topic but for some reason that thread went to hell quickly. If theyāre as stable as you all say I should really start thinking about getting one.
I recently went to Round 1 not too long ago for a Tekken 7 test location and I forgot how nice a completely rock solid panel feels. No more sliding around my lap for me with these stands!
Even then I would call this a Maybe, as there no idea if the stock Hori VLX touch pad is compatible with the DS4 Touch pad.
Is the two touch pads have the same pin out or even use the electrically compatible?
the VLX is heavy enough and has the cushion on the bottom such that it itself does not slide around on the piano stand arms, or on a wood plank resting on those arms.
and the stand arms have rubber feet that also grip onto the stick/board bottom so it sits securely. no jostling, nor repositioning between matches is required.
(caveat incoming)
that said, the piano stand itself does sway a bit: front-to-back. we are just talking about 1/2".
I live in a nyc apt that is almost 100 years old so there is no such thing as a level floor for me. perhaps the sway is less at your place if you have decent flooring! consider though that a carpeted floor might also experience this. as you see in my pic, I have a wooden floor but quite wavy.
Once in action though I donāt notice it moving around on me in any direction.
I still have my wrists resting on the VLX while playing standing so that stabilizes it enough, I guess. alternatively, I can push the stand up against my desk so there is no forward give. but I donāt find that necessary.
I find nothing in life is perfect, but this fit the bill for my set of issues⦠the collapsible bit is especially nice to keep the wife happy and me swapping between the living room and man cave with ease.
now I just need to figure out how to strap this to my Transporter XL backpack for my next tournament!
