Not trying to get off subject here with snap ins, but there are two types of panels I’ve seen, with regards to JLF compatible button holes.
One panel has just the cutouts for the snap ins. This may be the panel you guys are referring to here. This panel is really good for screw on buttons, of course, but snap ins are 50/50. On my madcatz TE for example, the sanwa snap ins spin around freely in some of the button housings, but on others, they don’t move at all. All seems to be related to the size of the cutout relative to the housings.
On the Qanba Q4, the button cutouts actually have TABS on them, where the Sanwa snap ins can “Latch” on the tabs, securing the button housing, so it only moves a few millimeters and doesn’t rotate freely. I think this also accepts screw ins.
Is the Qanba method better? What is the advantage of not having the notch for the Sanwa button tabs to latch onto (like on the Madcatz TE sticks?)
Did you get the Kuro or the Hayabusa? General consensus about the Kuro buttons is mixed (I think they’re fine), consensus about the Hayabusa buttons is really positive.
I didn’t think to take pictures, but I inspected the one on display. They only had two of them and the same person bought both. Literally the entire surface of the stick was painted with that blue/magenta galaxy style (same as all their other gear) continuously from the casing to the stock top panel, then clearcoated for a glossy finish. For such an expensive paint job, I would have expected something a bit more creative and inspired. The TE2 and TE-S versions with the white + galaxy side panels and bezel were definitely the best looking of the bunch, but for those prices? No way.
They also had regular controllers on sale, including Xbox One Elite pads ($210). Some of the designs are great, but they really need to whip up a matte grip finish instead of that glossy shit. I have an Evil Controllers white-painted pad from the Xbox One launch era (late 2013) and it’s just really uncomfortable to use for extended periods of time.
Sega Player 2 and Hitbox layout by @RageousX , standard designs I have offered all along but the graphics (again Thanks RageousX for the Vewlix inspired graphics) are printed directly onto the metal panel. Stock look with way nicer printing since its epoxy ink right on to the panel. No more glossy panel finger prints
The EGRET II graphics are my favorite and one of these is getting installed right on my own Kuro stick. Eventually, I will get some white sides and a “spare” diamond to make an all white stick with the EGRET II graphics, but for now, it should be killer.
If anyone wants one, let me know. I have a few left from EVO that would be better installed on your stick than sitting in my shop
Yeah, I have a standard metal panel with printed artwork and even though it was my own design, I was still pretty blown away by the epoxy version in person. Here’s some close up shots I took from Jasen’s booth on Saturday:
Yeah I saw pics of the TE2+ and it definitely looked very very nice, especially the serial numbering where the mad catz logo would normally be on the touch pad (I wonder if they removed the mad catz logo, or they actually got mad catz to give them spare parts). $499USD for the TE2+ is a fair bit of coin, but hey there were only 30 of those, so from a collectors perspective, it could fetch for big dollars at a later point in time.
So the VLX sides weren’t even painted in the TE2+ scheme? That’s a shame since the TE2+ was my pic from all the pics I saw on instagram. Still can’t believe 1 person dropped 1600USD on two VLX’s. Damn! Do you know how many VLX’s they had? 30 as well like the TE2+?
Surely, someone on here bought it? I want to see the pics
Nope, 2 total. Same guy bought both. Literally the entire stick was painted in the galaxy treatment. Top panel, side panels, main body, undercarriage, turbo panel, everything. The only things not painted galaxy-colored were the buttons and lever. I would’ve at least hoped for a similar-to-TE2 scheme where the main body would be white and they’d limit the galaxy style to the side and top panels.
I didnt even know there was another version. Lol. The stick did come in today, so i have the kuro buttons. There is a difference between them and sanwas. I did buy extra buttons, but at this point i dont want to swap them out yet. Aesthetically, its a very handsome stick.
