The Hollywood sexual harassment thread. Here, "horny" stands for "hands off right now, you!"

I won’t go to @TheDoctaMario’s extreme. I won’t say most but there is enough questionable people around to make divorcing the person from movie or TV productions something to seriously consider. Looking at Weinstein for example, there are multiple other people involved in projects he’s had his hands on that had nothing to do with terrible acts. With say, an author, it’s would be an easier stance to adopt because they are directly responsible for the work in question.

For sure, I did say movies are made by more then one person.

I don’t understand

I work with artists for a living and a lot of them are extremely self centered, willing to step over anyone who gets in their way, and a lot of times, kind of fucked up as people. In order to be the type of person who makes a living at their art, they have to be, but the qualities that make for a great artist seldom make for a good & balanced person, which is why I say that if you’re going to use their disposition as a barometer for what art you want to experience, you’ll likely have a hard time finding truly great stuff.

Me personally, I’d rather experience great art by a deplorable person than mediocre art by someone who’s a nice guy, but that’s just me. I don’t think it’s wrong to separate the art from the artist. The last season of House of Cards was fucking awful because they decided they’d rather stand up for their principles than make a great show, which is the reason people tuned in in the first place. Kevin Spacey was not the only great actor in the cast, but his Spector hung very very heavy over that last season and the writing became just awful because it seemed like they felt they had to do penance because of what Spacey was accused of.

I stopped watching The Ranch after Hyde left. Kelso is great and all, and I love Sam Elliott. But they really lost a huge dynamic by getting rid of Hyde. Sucks that people are so horrible, and if he is guilty of what he’s been accused of then he deserves to rot. But the show suffered because of it.

Folks need to let the law do its thing and stop trying mete out social justice via Twitter as a substitute for going through the right channels to get these guys pinched for doing bad stuff.

You know i never said i choose my art based upon the artists disposition. I’ve said multiple times in the past I do the opposite. I simply voiced the disappointment in Harvey being trash. That’s all.

Not that Twitter isn’t a colossal shit show, but part of why it gets away with being like that is that historically the law’s not great at holding powerful or wealthy people accountable.

And… I’m not sure you HAVE to be fucked up to make great art. I understand that the music industry probably skews that way. But in a lot of other creative mediums it really seems to dial back to no more fucked up than normal.

That’s been that way since there were a legal code. The wealthy ether hire a good lawyer or other defender or they literally try to buy their way out one way or another.

Some countries still allow for criminal cases between to families to be settled out if court, and for the rich, is oh here a few million, or some land, a heard of cattle, ect. Poor people get stuck with offering their daughter to marry or become an indentured servant

Hell, read about The Code of Hammurabi, one of the oldest legal codes in existance allows you to buy your way out of a crime.

I wouldn’t say Twitter has done a very good of holding anyone accountable for anything. All they have done is erode the principles of innocent until proven guilty, and even then only for people they don’t like or think helps their cause. Twitter acts so high and mighty but barely heard shit out of em about Amber Heard being a lying sack of shit because it hurts the Twitter narrative.

So Twitters not very good at holding rich or powerful people accountable either. Cops currently aren’t the best but they are still better then the garbage that is twitter.

I guess that depends on who on Twitter you’re reading.

This guy is SUPER woke PC, but

I was talking in a broad generalization about Twitter. Not everyone on it is a dumpster fire, just the way a lot of users of the platform use it as a weapon is really gross.

But there are good people on Twitter who use it properly.

Maybe I misunderstood then. It sounded to me like you were saying you couldn’t enjoy certain movies because Weinstein’s name was on them.

No, it’s just disappointing he’s a shit because his name is all over those projects. Those movies are still awesome tho.

Tom Cruise is fucking nuts, but I’m still there for every Mission Impossible.

Give the law a chance. Going straight to Twitter just ensures you won’t get real justice unless someone else picks up the ball on your behalf.

I suppose you don’t HAVE to be fucked up, but it helps, especially in music and movies. They say everyone has one hit in them, but a large portion of the people who have created a lot of the best works of art are pretty fucked up people.

Tom cruise is like THE BEST guy to play that “young hotshot” role he plays in pretty much every movie he’s in. He’s given some great performances and I can say he has quite a few movies he’s been in that I love.

Yea he’s awesome in his movies. Even the movies that aren’t very good he is good in. I love that MI is starting to point out Ethan is as crazy as the guy who plays him.

I actually begrudgingly went to see MI2 in the theater with a couple friends and wound up loving it. He totally sold that role.

Ive actually been a fan of MI movies since the beginning. I remember my dad hiding the vhs tape cuz he was tired of seeing it lol. I loved the music and all the twists and turns even if I didn’t get most of them at the time. The set pieces like in Langley and the Bullet Train…Ethan Hunt has always been neck and neck with James Bond for me. The low point of the movies for me is MI3. It’s good I just i dunno…didnt feel it for some reason. I should honestly watch it again it’s been a long time. MI2 is a lot of fun but feels weird when looked at with the rest of the movies. Not enough spy shit in 2 but still great John Woo fun and everyone is on point. From MI4 onward these movies have only gotten better, crazier, more fun and I love it when new ones come out.
