I find that the Wesker match-up is similar to Mags. It’s tough, but his usual zoning doesn’t work very well against Arthur, and his approach has problems with daggers. His command throw is the problem if he gets in that range.
I was thinking a couple of days ago that Arthur’s worst match-ups are Dante, Dorm, CapAm, and those with beam like supers (Ryu, Akuma, Dpool). I feel that going gold in these matches is important because it makes it harder for them to punish our zoning since Arthur does not need to commit to throwing out multiple things at a time. Ammy is annoying in reflector because she can nullify our zoning. So far, my only answer is goddess bracelet. I need to hit the lab to see what else beats her reflector. That match hardly ever happens for me though since I have Arthur last, and Ammy usually doesn’t last too long against my other characters.
MODOK seems tough because of his barrier, but normal grey jumping arrows will actually hit the top of his head! LMAO!
Some great zoning there!! I was very impressed and once more I think it is safe to crown you our reigning knight of the round sir Politix! I have some rushing up my sleeve so I’d like to play you in a few weeks if your available.
I actually find the Wesker match-up a lot easier than the Magneto one, as Wesker has a very limited approach when it comes to angles. The old 6-dagger defense works quite well against him, and that usually leads to a hit-confirm Goddess Bracelet.
I agree with those bad match-ups, too. Oh, and Ammy’s reflector cannot reflect a Golden Lance (IIRC). Hitting 2 of them during the reflector seems to always beat it for some reason, correct me if I’m wrong.
And tbh, I haven’t seen much good MODOK’s lately. I fought HusslerBrian’s way back in an old WNF, but he was usually facing my Deadpool or Sentinel. I always wanted to supplement my team with the Barrier assist, but the learning curve to learn that character is so high. @.@
Thanks a bunch! The grand finals were quite embarrassing for me, my Arthur got blown up before I could even suit up. Right now, my goal is to prove the effectiveness of zoning and Arthur before UMvC3 arrives, I’ll be trying my best to get far in the upcoming majors. Hit me up any time that I’m on, I’d be glad to play!
Gold lances go through Ammy’s reflector, but they do not hit her. They cannot break the reflector no matter what. The only concrete strategy to beat this is to use our Lv3. She cannot block in time or super through it. If you cancel the Lv3 with XF, you can attack with regular arrows to get the damage to 900k+ if in XF3. Goddess Bracelet can be beaten with super. The only thing that she can do to avoid the lv3 is to XF herself.
I feel the important aspects of Arthur’s match-ups have to do with his supers. Some matches require gold armor, while others need Lv3. Other popular anchors are the matches I find myself facing the most with Arthur, obviously. Akuma, Sentinel, Dormammu (although, not as much anymore), Wesker, Phoenix, Doom, Tron and Haggar are the characters I face most. I would categorize these matches like this:
Grey Armor: Wesker, Tron, Haggar, Sentinel
Gold Armor: Doom
Lv3: Akuma, Dormammu, Phoenix
Depending on your assists and the characters they belong to Ammy’s reflector isn’t too much of a problem. For example, i tricked an Ammy this morning by jumping and whiffing a air fire bottle and jumping away after i called deadpool’s katana-rama assist. The reaction was a dropped reflector and a free combo to her death.
On Akuma : Unless you’re playing a shoto-savant Akuma gets shamed by decent arthur keepaway, his health shortcoming becomes glaringly horrible for him after a few volleys from arthur in regular armor.
I’ll watch out for your replays. Good luck in your upcoming tournies and i’ll definitely get a hold of you on LIVE.
His Arthur was ok, but he made a lot of poor decisions and opted out of a lot of opportunities he had in front of him. He had a lot of his macro on point, like the Double Dragon strategy (catch two with Fire Dragon super. Best thing Arthur has.) But he messed up the Dark Arthur strat by X-Factoring before Gold, and a few other thing he could have done different that I think would have been better.
His Zero was also super scrubby, coming from a Zero main.
I’m going to try to start making some Arthur videos, the problem is he hardly gets any face time being in the back and xf lv3 nuking everyone and thats a rap. here is a short video of my Arthur beating Wesker’s air throw reset haha, pretty funny.
Some Arthur play by me at Battle and Brew in Marietta, Georgia. starts at 10:40.
It was my first match ever in a tournament, and I was very close to taking the set!
Also, hey there AutoMcFix, nice meeting ya at the tourney!
damn jookey your right you messed that cheap ass team up. i’m sure you messed up a little so i’m not even going to give tips. really awesome job, that was super fun to watch. to bad at the second fight you could not of finished your team areial combo with arthur into a otg level 3 then xfactor canceled. you could of won the set. good job for real.
Ah, nice try man, I was really pulling for you to win. Your Hsien-Ko is fun as hell to watch when she’s loaded up with 2 assists, I wish I could play her like that. Against Thor (with Arthur), maybe you can throw st.M if his air-dash attacks get predictable. I use it for predictable Akuma/Sentinel’s myself.
A small tip: I never try to use Gold Armor Arthur outside of him being the last character (unless the other team doesn’t can’t take advantage of the hard knockdown). High-level players are just too keen on OTG’ing him after the armor breaks, and when you use Gold Armor on point and eventually switch him out, you’re delaying the inevitable.
