So far my hardest match up personally is Guile. This takes a lot of guesswork to do anything in.
Since the recovery on lp Sonic Boom’s are so fast, it can be hard to get an oil up without him moving in and hurting you unless you guess right.
When he has the life lead downback destroys Hakan for free. Any jump is a free flash kick and if I try and walk forward he pokes me. Gotta try oiling up and doing a max range ex spd.
I’ve found that coward crouch works fairly well against Vega’s wall dives. However, it’s also hard to punish Vega after a successful use of a the coward crouch to avoid a wall dive move, I’ve found.
I haven’t been vigilant in my updates of the front page, but I promise to update it more. Even the slightest tidbit of info toward a character matchup, I’ll post it in spoiler tag when I get an opportunity. I apologize again for my inconsistent updates, but business will pick up, folks~!
dont worry about it, alot of testing needs to be done anyway. Were all missing something about hakan that is making him a monster at high level play… S-Kill and other members of capcom stated that hakan is definitley a top tier character, im assuming there basing this on the play testers experiences with him, and there play testers are some of the best in the world.
Just my 2 cents, but im really thinking something is going to get found out soon that flips some of his matchups on there heads.
yeah @ op’er. No worries, honestly, a lot of the posts in here are certainly speculation as a lot of general strategies have yet to be tested at high level tournament play. Some of the simple ‘this punishes this’ is good to update, but full writeups will probably take a few months to have solid strats.
Can’t Vega’s Wall Dives be stopped with a simple focus attack? You don’t have to worry much about the direction of blocking.
Also, it’s probably known, but Hakan’s standing fierce punch stuffs out about all of Boxer’s dash attacks (EX included) if done in the proper timing. Good ol’ Gen trick (though Hakan’s slide is already a pretty tool for that).
I tried to counter Deejay’s super with S.HP and he did his ultra right after and beat me. Is there not much recovery on his super or did I just miss the timing? His health was so low I think I could have chipped with a slide but he did the super on wake up.
Yes, but that’s part of his mixup game. He’ll grab you just the same if you block. Focus is just an answer to the “I don’t know which way to block issue”.
Claws with good wall dive mix-up are tricky. I tend to dash early or dive if I feel he’ll try and grab. Not sure about the “two hits dive” k4polo mentions. I probably didn’t fight smart enough Claws ^^
I’m no expert on the Guile match-up yet, but I think you cannot rely so much on oil for that one. I have a good amount of experience vs. Sagat (what a nightmare lol…) and some of that applies to Guile. Don’t forget that even non-oiled EX slides go through fireballs, so you need to make sure your opponent learns that when you have meter, he can’t fireball for free all day. Don’t save for Super. Make sure you become accustomed to dry EX slides. Learn the range and speed! It isn’t anywhere near as fast or distant as the oiled one, but it’s a great move nonetheless! Full screen fireballs are of little or no concern for Hakan. In addition to the tools everyone else has, his Guard Position is great! Try to avoid using meter on EX oil, I still don’t think it’s good. EX slides are better! Preference thing I guess. It’s okay to turtle without oil when needed in this fight, just don’t let the man corner you, he is scarier than Rog now when you’re in the corner. I definitely recommend U1 for this fight, and you’re hearing this from a U2 advocate.
@guile
a good Focus Boom–DNC-c.HP will open a lot of opportunitys for Tickthrows specaly the wiffed ones
and he is a perfekt candidate for DDT setups use the setups often a good one open a big chanze 1. good damage 2. realy good positioning 3. SAVE-MKoil 4. last but best SETUPS after the MK-Oil for Meety Throw or Block&Punish or cMK+Slide
against C. Viper i found some cool shit out in a short session today.
Empty jumping and looking for her to thunder knuckle is awesome, if she thunder knuckles just air throw, i had it working every time. If she doesnt then you land and end up in her face.
U2 will catch dumb ass burning kicks, if she super jumps at you and trys to bait it out by doing burning kick to make her stop short you can still nail her. If you block a burning kick you can thow her with lp SPD if oiled, im not sure what works when unoiled.
Your poking game is very good against her, cr. mp beats out a ton of her normals, if you anticipate a sweep and do yours it will always beat hers out.
Staying patient and looking for openings is the only way to play this matchup, her damage output off of basic shit is too good to be throwing out dumb shit.
Oh and against Ryu if he naked supers or ultras in front of you regular grab will go right through the fireball and throw him… not practical but funny as shit. I did it twice against a ryu in a team battle and the hate mail i got was fucking awesome.
A well timed fierce punch can beat all his dashes (including EX ones) and slides too. Once he’s in your face though, that’s another story, and I suck at getting out of pressure…
Happenned to me once or twice too. But I would have been the one sending the hatemail if the grab didn’t connect
EX spd beats out all rush punches. When he gets inside be ready to tech throws and watch what he does, as soon as you see him throw out something other then a lp or lk try to counter fish with cr. mp. just be patient and ready to tech when hes in your shit, thats really all you can do as far as i know until you get ultra. U1 is recommended since rog has no reason in hell to jump at you. A lot of balrogs moves are punishable by U1 when blocked.
heres a list:
All of his Special moves, with the exceptions of EX dash uppercut and EX torpedo punch and level 1 turnaround punch.
cr. hp, cr. hk, cr. mp, cl. hp, cl. hk.
I can’t believe I’ve been neglecting f.LK after so long. It just became my new favorite move, easily. I throw it out at the right distance and it just ends up stuffing everything they have…0 on block, +3 on hit.
Also, I’ve taken up the habit of just sliding away when they try to cross me up on wake up when I’m un-oiled. Seriously…I’d rather just get the hell away and get what seems to be a free oil.
