I started off hella disappointed with the first episode, but this hawk fight is great. There are a few places I can nitpick where the faces don’t look like the characters and shit, but quite honestly, the flair is there and it’s exciting to watch the fights unfold though I don’t remember them going the way they do in the manga, but maybe my memory is just slipping.
Excellent episode though (subbed already by SpeedStar by the way).
For those who believe there has never been a Real World Bryan Hawk…
I present to you Prince Naseem Hamed.
Just mute the music. They got the same flair, similar weird angles, punching while retreating… and SIMILAR TRUNKS. Skip to 2:20 or so to see The Prince wearing the same getup Bryan Hawk does.
Oh my god, I was thinking the same thing the other day. I watched nearly all of his professional fights and still didn’t put it together. Doh!
Naseem is a little more cocky/showboaty than the generally disgusting/insane Hawk, but still Hawk definitely seems based on the Prince.
Edit: Ep 22 was so sweet. I don’t know what I’ll do with myself if this really goes away after 26 episodes. I guess we’ll really know if ep 26 doesn’t have a “To be continued” type trailer.
Do you know the title of the track that plays when Date is throwing his Heartbreak shot at Ricardo Martinez? It’s got the violins and all that cool stuff. They also played it a little in ep 21. I love that song and I want to listen to it.

it’s not on it as far as i’ve listened. the new “guitar track” from the hawk fight isn’t on it either. they might bring out a second ost like they did with the old series.
It really gets me how this stupid shit like Bleach, Naruto and DBZ got so popular and even gay sports like “Prince of Tennis” and this Golf Anime are around here and on prime time…
But one of the best written and longest running manga series can’t get a full run.
Hell, even the Basketball and Baseball anime are a bigger draw. I think Japanese people can’t like an anime unless there is crying and loli girls with big tits. Japanese TV is un fucking bearable in general and once HnI goes off there will be only one other anime worth watching, the always insane Obocchama-kun.
I’ll definitely show my support if they release blue ray/dvd of New Challenger. I normally don’t buy anime because of the jacked up prices, but I’ll go out of my way for this anime.
