What sucks is after watching the 1st episode of new challenger, I’m kinda disappointed. Yeah, the anime looks better… but it animates worse in a lot of ways. There are parts that look super budget at the start and they even changed Kumi’s VA =/ Everyone just doesn’t feel the same anymore, it’s odd. Probably the worst change to the series is the music. It’s not Ippo music.
Yeah I agree, the music is kinda off. The thing is that we haven’t seen a fight yet, so there’s still hope that they would do a good job composing during one. I really miss the techno beat that they play at the end of every ippo episode too.
It does seem to animate differently. The boxers also seem to have lost muscle mass. But like 5 years past since the last OVA, so I guess different stuff would be expected.
Time shouldn’t matter, look at Initial D, it’s changed but still feels the same. The new HnI feels so budget.
There might be some changes, but fuck it, I am happy to see the Ippo franchise in motion. Better this than some shitty manga getting a boot. Be happy. Seriously.
If the show is looking to be 95 episodes deep this time around, then the budget is obviously split between a lot of episodes. This isn’t a 6 episode OVA or something. Most 26 episode series will look better than a 95 episode series.
Plus, it’s not like the first animated so amazingly in a lot of episodes.

challenger still holds it’s roots strong with the old series and at the same time tries to bring a new quality. as a fan you can’t ask for more. i can’t wait until the big fights are starting.

it looks like there is less shading and detail which makes it look kinda flat. As long as the fights are still amazing though i could care less.
