Not really. Itās just that his reach is fucking terrible. Heās always facing dudes with reach over 20cm his own so thereās no point in jabbing. The fuck is jabbing going to do when the opponent can jab/whiff, pull his arm back, then jab again to counter the jab Ippo just threw out?
How many times have we seen that happen? Itās why he keeps taking punches to the face because thereās nothing he can do besides either take them and keep pushing forward or develop godlike dodging skills.
Jabbing is an essential part of boxing. You need to have some type of jab to help set the pace/tone of a fight. Developing a good jab helps with developing different strategies. If ippo learned how to jab and move a bit more than forward he would be beyond ridiculous. I mean he is already strong and having a stiff jab would be a lot more effective than one would think.
He was doing well in his Japanese fights, but standing on the world stage, it seems his opponents are of a whole different order of magnitude.
Ippo already has World Level jabbing skills.
He just doesnāt have the reach for it against the caliber of opponents heās facing.

All he can really do is when he gets close to use Jabs a lot more to keep them in his comfort zone.
All these big hits are what kills him since everyone he fights has counters waiting for him.
If Ippo is 5ā2 then his dong is 20% of his height god damn, I think the explanation of his S tier balance, raised on a boat, is some bullshit now.
Ippo aint gonna be jabbing shit but that isnt new, he wont be able to become an outboxer but he can change up his general tactics to something not ālets bullrush inā. Like Duke says, hes got amazing hand speed and coordination, even though hes not gonna be able to out jab somebody at his level he can start doing more like getting some feints going on or straight up knocking punches away that are coming to him (like what alf did and a few others) and basically just exploring other ways to fight using his natural physical abilities, which probably outrank every other boxer.
What I want to see from him is the shit ive always moaned about, I want him to start using some confidence, asert his presense in the ring more and cut loose a bit. 20% people always remember.

That is my point. Itās not about out jabbing anyone. Itās more so it is an essential tool for boxing. I mean Ippo knows that folks are afraid of his power. The jab is a great way to set up your opponents. I have yet to see a boxer forego jabs all together even if he doesnāt have the reach. It would add a whole other level of depth to his arsenal. I mean Ippo can kind of hang at the world level but that style of his wonāt get him the title. I mean he was ineffective when alf was fighting smart. Just imagine how bodied he would get if he fought Ricardo. I rather see takamura have a serious fight. I mean his fight against Hawk was epic.
