The Guy Q&A Thread: Post your questions here!

ask Capcom to make it safer on block  lol just kidding, me myself has this bad habit too… it just seems like a good normal move coz u can duck under jump-ins and escape non-meaty cross ups, and is safe on block if spaced PERFECTLY

maybe that’s why we abuse this move so much…

I’m hard at work in the Dojo. This particular question deals with the cr.MP Buffer Run>Slide OS as seen here:

When exactly do you buffer the run>slide? I keep running without contact, thus no OS.

when you hit cr mp buffer qcf and hit kick afterwards.

It should look like this Cr mp~qcf K

If you hit then Run will come out, if you whiff you’ll do nothing. DON"T double tap K or you’ll run regardless.

^^^ Do you have to plink the crMP? I see Pedro doing it in the Vid.

No, you don’t. It’s probably just a habit.

May I ask how to escape meaty Izuna drops from Vega without using any meter? I can do wakeup ex bushin flip, it either escapes completely or I get hit midair and get reset.

I honestly don’t know I always do a crouch normal (mp or mk) and 3 things happen: I get hit by the claw, trade or hit Vega.

I think EX Tatsu is possible but I’m unsure and Lk tatsu is just not going to happen

Is that character specific?

Mashing EX tatsu on wakeup gets beaten 100%. Cr. mk gets beaten too. I’ll try to do EX tatsu late and see if the invul frames will do the job.

What about cr mp?

Haven’t tried cr.mp yet but will do so the next time I get a chance. Although I’m thinking cr.mk has a lower profile than cr.mp so it might be beaten as well but will still try it out. Thanks!

havent a clue. seems legit though.

Maybe instant KIO EX? It’s invincible in the first frames…

I have a question regarding back throw safe jump setups against non-shotos. I have seen different videos whiffing different normals but I seem to get getting completely different results. These are the setups I have seen off of back throws:

Whiff cr. HP, jf. MK
Whiff st. MK, jf. MK
Whiff cr. MK, jf. MK
Whiff st. HK, jf. MK

I get varying results such as getting beat clean with the reversal, whiffing the jf. MK completely from the front of the opponent, whiffing jf. MK completely from the back of the opponent, and several times here and there, the safe jump actually works.

Now, I can understand if I did it too slow, hence getting beat clean with the reversal, but whiffing the jf. MK? That just seems a bit bizarre to me since isn’t the whole purpose of these setups are to get the perfect timing? On the topic of timing, how is it that all of the above can be considered safe jumps when they have different frame data (i.e. some slower than others)? I watched one particular video saying that whiffing cr. MK followed with a jf. MK is used in particular against Cammy and Sagat but I seem to fail at that too. If anyone can give me some insight on what’s going on, I will greatly appreciate it.

Safe jumps aren’t meant to land a hit. They’re meant to safely jump at someone in case they try a reversal. If they end up blocking, then they’ll simply block your j. mk. If they were blocking incorrectly then they eat it.

I think you might be doing the required whiff a little too late. That and you have to take into account how many frames it takes for the wake up to activate. Also, some characters wake up earlier or later than others. xstreak has several good videos on that.

4-frame reversals
5-frame reversals

That wouldn’t work. Its a 1 frame uncrouchable grab, you’d just be given him an easier time to catch you, jumping takes about 3-4 frames believe its 4 four for your character to be in his jump. Then another 3 before Izuna even comes outs.

I understand the purpose of safe jumps and what they are, the problem is that I can’t get them to work correctly even with the given setup. Also, I’m more concerned about the back throw setup rather than the front throw since I prefer the 50/50 from the double jump forward to get damage in and the mind games. Here is the back throw set up using st. MK that I was talking about. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find the cr. HP set up but I’ve seen it somewhere before.

If I eat the reversal, then yes, I am doing it too late, however, I also mentioned that at times, I completely whiff my jf. MK as well which is unusual (sometimes from the front, others from the back). So does that mean I’m doing it too fast or is there something else I don’t know about?

Means your doing teh j mk too early if your whiffing doesnt matter which normal you use though,

Cr HP isnt a set up for a safe jump, thats for crossing up.

any good east coast Guy players on XBL?

Me, GT-Deznere

I’ll probably be on later this evening as I have a tourney to attend in 3ish hours and I have yardwork to finish up on beforehand.
