The Guy Q&A Thread: Post your questions here!

tell me how it went

Since marvel had the bigger turnout as well as KOF, AE was Round Robin and there was only 5 players, I went 2-3 but I could have gone 3-5 but I was dropping combos on Akuma and it just cost me no idea what was going on in that match.

What’s Up Guys? LOL I am wondering what to use to stop Claw’s Izunas when there is no meter for EX BSK, and use them to Guy’s advantage?
There isn’t a Claw match-up thread yet, that I have seen.

If its on your wake up, you’re basically screwed you’re only option is to mash a low to get out of the grab but you’ll most likely get hit by the claw

IF its just him midscreen or whatever you can jump back hp to hit him, or jump back Izuna, cr mp and cr mk will make the grab whiff and hit him as well.

It depends on what kind of followup they are going for. I often find that a jump back elbow drop will air-to-air him, or if you’re confident enough with it go for the air throw (I recommend the HP one as it has the highest reaching hit box - often ideal for catching Claw in this situation). You could also run under him just as he bounces off the wall, then go for a run-slide punish for an untechable knockdown, follow up with safe jump OS or whatever mixup option you like. I have some replays saved of me playing the best Claw in Europe and there’s some good little matchup pointers in there. I really need to upload all this stuff for you guys, but I can’t play online when I’m uploading to YouTube so it’s just finding the time to get all the uploading done…

lol I asked this question a few days ago. This cost me a match in our last tourney.

Its nice to hear youre getting some practice though. Keep it up man, good job!

i’ll message you later on tonight, forgot you replied i just remembered.

edit: when is a good time for you? me, usually 11pm (weekdays) because of bro eating internet bandwidth throughout the day so the connection would be horrible.

I’m normally on from like 5-11 sometimes 12 on weekdays. Wednesday though Im on from maybe 10-11 cause I go to casuals. I’ve probably fought you once or twice already. But I live in CT so I’m not that far from you so the connection may still be good unless he does a lot of things on that computer.

ya he does stupid stuff, watch vids, plays games. I live in NY, connection is fine. you just let me know, if i’m available we can play.

I have a question regarding run-stop pressure. It seems like that for the most part, if I do run-stop against someone like my brother (who plays Juri) and is familiar with the run-stops, he can easily tech the throws or just completely stuff anything else I try to do with normals. I haven’t been able to apply run-stop pressure on a consistent basis. With all the videos I have seen, they don’t seem to have any problems doing it and I don’t understand what I am doing differently. I am doing it off of cl. st. MP into run-stop which if I am understanding correctly, gives me the most frame advantage out of all other normals into run-stop. Any tips or ideas on what I’m doing wrong or what I could do differently?

Cl st mp won’t give you the most frame advantage. It’s -3 now rather than 0, so you’re better off doing TC which is -2 but its harder to hit you out of that unless the person mashes. Plus if you do it at the proper distance you’ll be able to have their attack whiff for most of the attack of its their lights, and you have to train them to block with frame traps and cancels into lp and mp hozantos to really put in the runstop pressure. If you do just run stop pressure you’ll get read easily.

Oh, I see, didn’t realize that; I guess the SRK wiki hasn’t been updated to reflect those changes which explains my dilemma. Thanks for the help =).

srk wiki is terrible, please don’t follow that. a lot of non updated information and new information not added. most frame data is incorrect

I’ve look at the japanese Guide book, it’s interesting to see some of the hitboxes on characters move.

guys hurtbox is bs.

On wake up yes, on stand its huge, on crouch its rather small…

After watching Top Level footage, I am curious how important FAs are to Guy’s game.
I need to learn OS’s too, since I don’t use any purposely if I do them at all.
So many aspects of this game to learn, and apply. I know spacing is very crucial with Guy, what are the best set-ups to replicate in training mode?

After seing this, I see that pedro does pretty much the same mistake I do and gets hit by the same shit I get hit by hahaha.
-So any trick on how to beat (without ex) the close jumpin HK of Blanka ? Cr. mp seems to get beat by it all the time… I read somewhere to use cr. hp, does this work if so how and when?
-What to do against blanka’s unblockable, what is the best option with meter and the best option without meter ?
-How to block a reversal ex rainbow ball that goes both side in the air ? I get hit by hit 99% of the time even when I feel I blocked the right way, any tricks is appreciated.
-Does cr. mk beat far st. hk of Akuma clean from any distance and on reaction ? I tried to dash in between but the timing is too strick to be reliable and if I miss I get punish big time.
-Any tricks/tips on how to beat/block vortex of akuma, I know cr. mk beat hurricane kick sometime and ex run can be used to get out but too often I try to block the tatsu but gets hit in the face by dive kick.

Thanks for your help guys… trying to get ready for ECT4 so I’ll probably ask a lot of question this week haha.

Does cr. tech mp os beats the ex dive kick pressure of Cammy or not ? I get hit a lot when I try this… does it only work on some specific setup ?
