The Guy Q&A Thread: Post your questions here!

I don’t know if I agree with that. There are tons of times when I have them in the corner with 3 bars and Ultra. All you really need to do is land a short, and if you’re execution is on point you should be able to do the s.mp in EX-hozanto FADC U1.

Anyway, I guess the only way around it is to just grind it out in training mode.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to keep up the pressure after a knock down? I’m still rather new to the game itself and I just don’t really understand how to play against their wakeup without eating a reversal or just plain letting them get up and resetting the whole situation.

Also, I don’t really quite understand this run/stop pressure thing people are talking about. I see it when I watch Kiryu Tsukimiya matches on YouTube and all, but it doesn’t really explain to me what it’s purpose is. Is he just doing it to stay close to the opponent or what? Is it a mixup to try and bait something out?

Best way to understand what run/stop pressure does is to play against a good Guy player who does it to you and you’ll see.

On a side note in this game you gain meter just by connecting with your oponnent, even if they block.

As for wake up pressure, eating reversals is inevitable sometimes, happens to everyone. IF your oponnent can cancel their reversal then pay attention to their meter, if it’s 2 or more then be more cautious.

If they’re always backdashing from you upon wake up u can option select HK slide to catch them each time. Characters who have weak reversals without meter, you should always meaty them i.e. do an attack just before they’re on their feet. This way if they try to mash throw or jump they’ll get hit. If they backdash they’ll get hit by the OS.

If you get a run slide knockdown, hold neutral jump and attack with MK or whatever. This works on some of the cast, not sure how many cos they have different wake up timings.

Not a Guy player officially but I’ve been thinking to use him. Stuck on the following trial: cr. jab x 3 > Bushin Goraisepujin (st. jab x st. mp x st. fp x st. hk). The crouching jabs keep pushing my opponent out of my range. What do I do?

Make sure you are right next to them, the trials are set so they can at least hit Dan, Or push them to the corner could help.

If it doesn’t start with a jump-in start with a focus attack.

its just

cr lpx3 Bushin Chain.

But most of the trial combos aren’t necessary, we have all the combos and what not that you will need to know in the combo thread.

I know but people do the trials for completion and to learn what is possible rather than learn practical combos. I just know that focus crumples leave you closer on hit than just walking up and starting a combo.

guy, ultra 2 question

Why when I attempt this ultra does EVERY other move under the sun come out instead of his U2?

WHY WHY WHY??

It’s a hcb move, you’re mashing, and you’re hitting the punch buttons before you finish the motion.

not really a technical question but one that has been bothering me for quite some time
why isn’t Guy more popular than he is. he seems to meet the criteria. alot of casuals and hardcore players like characters for cosmetic purposes. I mean what more can you ask for, he’s from a classic series, he’s a ninja, he has “hip” sneakers, did i mention he’s a ninja wearing sneakers? He has a red outfit, red is a popular color, he has ton of cool animations, moves and taunts and possibly his ultra 2 might be one of the coolest looking ones in the game.

i just don’t get it, i mean i’m glad he’s not ken or ryu and whored out to the max online, but i just don’t understand his lack of popularity, he seems so much cooler than the rest of the characters, even if you don’t like his play style or taking the time to learn him he seems like he would be someone people would gravitate towards because of the factors mentioned above. He never seemed to live up to his potential, capcom doesn’t seem to care about him either. i don’t remember the alpha movie that well but i don’t think he had a key role, he was beat out in vanilla 4 by other alpha characters, he doesn’t appear in crossovers that much if at all, and i’m not even sure if he plays an important role in the street fighter universe.

i don’t get it? am i underestimating guy’s popularity or is there something i’m missing that easily explains why he’s not that popular or liked despite him being “cool.” it just doesn’t make sense, maybe you SF vets will know? what am i not seeing???

It’s not that complicated; he’s hard to use and low tier.

i meant in the street fighter universe period, throughout all the years, not just this game, he’s just not a popular SF character, but i guess your answer does hold for this game

Because if you want to win with Guy you’ve got to concentrate more offensively, concentrate more defensively, and not rely on some stupid normal juggle or reversal move comboed into ultra, which a lot of the cast has and wins through.

His ability to fadc into ultra in the corner should barely be mentioned because it requires 3 meters, which Guy needs to use for other things anyway, in most matches.

A few noob question :

  • What can you link after a BUSHIN FLIP ELBOW ?
  • I ve been praticing the target combos, but i can’t land them during a game exept for a missing DP. Any trick or setup ?

A cr.lp, cr.lk, EX Tatsu, or s.hp, but only if they’re crouching and it’s around a 1 frame link.

j.mk -> cr.lp/cr.mp (confirm they got hit and are standing) Bushin Chain is the best way to land it in a combo. You can also do j.mk -> cr.lp -> s.mp xx s.hp as a hit-confirm if you want. After a focus crumple s.hk/cr.mp/s.mk -> Bushin Chain is a great damage combo. S.hk will whiff on some characters if you mistime it at all though so usually I just do cr.hp -> s.mp xx slide.

Timing for linking a cr l.k or a cr l.p after a bunshin flip elbow is different from a j d+m.p.
Its slightly later than a j d+m.p . combo = (cr l.p , st m.p , st h.p , hozanto l.p /run slide)

Well, this may be a little difficult. You can do a cr l.k X2 if u need more confimation, then link into target combo. It works when you are near opponent and they try to keep a distance by walking or refusing to block low. If you use cr l.p it can be blocked standing.

I have been testing and everytime I do a safe jump after a run slide, sometimes i get hit by even a 5 frame reversal.
I always hold up after a run slide, so i guess I am not delaying any frames in between.
I press mk when I fall into the opponent’s head area, and of course I hold block.
I am testing out in the training mode, with CPU taking over T.Hawk.
I am pretty sure my execution is almost error free.

So can someone tell me why sometimes I get hit by a 5 frame reversal?
Also, is there a difference when doing safe jumps in corner and mid screen? (I mean wakeup frames)
Thanks.

If I’m not mistaken, every character has different wake up timing than others. Also, each character’s wake up timing depends on how he (or she) was knocked down. In other words, if characters land on their back, they may wake up more slowly (or quickly) than if they land on their front.

In console Super, Adon and Ibuki generally wake up faster than the rest of the cast. I know someone has posted some characters’ wake up timings on the forums.

ninja [e]dit:

Found it.

Are you doing any option selects after holding up? After the run slide you shouldn’t be getting hit by any 5 frame reversals (I don’t know about Adon though) if you’re holding up. Your jump attack will either hit or miss your oponnent depending on their wake up, but if ur holding block you shouldn’t get hit by a reversal, unless its an ex command grab. If I remember correctly there are only 4/5 characters that don’t get meatied after the slide neutral jump, sagat cammy maybe blanka and of course adon.

Just a tip, the neutral jump MK has only 3 active frames whereas the nj.MP has 4. I stopped using MK because it would sometimes whiff - strict timing. An even safer choice is the nj.Lp which has even more active frames so u can hit it really late and still connect.
