The Guy Q&A Thread: Post your questions here!

Btw wanned to know what’s with this bushinryu stuff that Guy is all about? I mean I know it’s some sort of a ninjutsu but is it a real style or a fiction lile the ansatsuki for shotos. And how does bushinryu translates? Couldn’t find anything about this stuff on SF wikia ):

Just got SSSFIV today…used to main Guy in Alpha…and I’m getting whooped online.

My question is, does Guy have any good anti-air attacks? It’s been a bit humiliating getting near perfected by Rufus and Viper constantly spamming these special looking air moves I can’t seem to counter at all…I swear they’re making fun of my suckiness.

And Guy’s hurricane kick seems usually just misses or gets hit. I’m not mad or anything, and I don’t expect to win much, but I at least want to put up a fight.

EDIT: Just started reading the Guy Match-up thread…so c.MP/c.HP for his anti-air?

Also, if anyone can point me to what I should be reading to help out Guy noobs starting out, could you post the link?

i answered the same question 3 posts above yours -_____-

lol, thanks, I started reading this thread from page 1 :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey guys, haven’t been on here in a while and started getting back into things recently.

Have been working on my AA game recently and am getting better at it but really want to work the Izuna drop as an AA into my game. Alot of the times I’ll do db, d, df, f, uf and punch and get a jumping fierce or whatever. It’s really frustrating because even if it hits, you’ll land beside them on the ground and may get countered.

Anyone else having these issues?

^ I still mess it up now and then but found its just practice. Funnily enough had a play around with Akuma the other day and never missed TK air fireball once (couldn’t do consistently at all since over year ago when last tried).

Question. Can anyone tell me if Bison Scissor Kick is considered airbourne? I’m finding the Bison lk.sk pressure annoying as shit and I’ve become curious as to whether TK Izuna would be a worthwhile option against SK pressure. Thoughts?

^ That’s what training mode is there for. One of the reasons I like SSF4 is cos you can think of things like this and have a mental picture of what “could be” - thus you go to training mode and see if it’s practical or not.

Scissor kick pressure is one of the annoying aspects Guy finds difficult to deal with. In AE it’s supposed to be better.

Not sure on SK, but generally I would never try to do that because you’ll never actually get that opportunity, You can try it out in Training mode I guess but I never see it viable use, because Bison player can just use st mk/hk to bait you for it.

^ Good points. I might try it as a random escape option. lol.

Only thought of it yesterday and aint had a chance to try it in training mode which is why I asked if anyone could say if SK is airbourne because it would give some indication of whether it’s even worth trying. I’ll give it a go in training mode anyway.

Why would you TK izuna? If he’s doing sk -> cr.lk you can’t jump at all and if he’s just doing raw sk you can just jump out or hit him with s.mp xx EX Hozanto or do EX Run -> stop -> whatever.

If he blockstrings into scissor kick he eventually gets pushed back. So he has to do raw scissor kicks to keep you close. In order to prevent jump out often bison will do sk -> s.hk/s.mk but if you block that you’re slightly plus and he loses his trap.

Just block, backdash, EX Tatsu, or EX Run. If you really want to hit a button hit cr.lk afterwards. If you’re out of his cr.lk range you should s.mp instead of cr.lk.

EX Tatsu does well as a reversal vs scissor kick traps because even if he delays the scissor kick a bit he’ll still get smacked by EX Tatsu, as compared to a shoryuken which will whiff or get blocked.

Honestly just block. Guy has it easy. Play Seth, Abel, Dan, Rufus, or Sakura and then tell me they have an easier time with scissor kick traps.

Watching several Kiryu videos, I’ve noticed that even he still has execution problems with the TK Izuna. Extremely frustrating stuff!

Was in training mode this morning and was trying to find practical applications for EX-Run/stop and uses are pretty limited since it’s really at the stop that he needs armor. Guess there’s no point in fiddling with this move until AE comes out and gives him that much needed armor.

Anyone else have trouble doing ex-shoulder FADC into U1 in the corner? The timing on the U1 seems so goddamn strict!

Hey fellas. i´m kinda new to this board, just posted some youtube videos of some matches so far, but now I thought about joining in this discussion thread.

The EX-Hozanto --> FADC Ultra1 timing is indeed extremely strict. But I never use that set up anyway, it is easier after a normal hozanto IMO. The timing there seems to be not that strict. At least that´s my feeling.

About the Rose discussion earlier. She gives me the most trouble…even more than Honda. And I hate playing against Honda. Rose seems to be able to shut down nearly everything he has to offer. She can escape crossups and d. MP elbow with her slide and punish you. I haven´t figured out a viable strategy for her yet. But then again, I don´t face that many Rose´s which is sad.

The timing isnt super strict but its definitely not braindead easycoughsrk xx FADC Metsucough.I think the problem is that the game puts you behind the opponent for a frame or two which cause inputs to get lost/reversed so instead you get EX run alot.

Its a shame because if it was easier it would be more of a threat.Pulling off Ryu’s ultra in a clutch situation is a piece of piss compared to landing Guy’s.I find EX Hoz fadc U1 easy to land when I’ve confirmed into into it but it scales to shit if you stick some jabs in their.Doing raw EX hozanto into it is good damage but that move is stupid to throw out in the first place because it has no invicibilty and it doesnt track, and as I said doing it raw you have less time to confirm the fadc into ultra.

My suggestion is dont focus on working that combo into your game because its really not needed.Guy has enough other tools to win matches.

  1. No clue, but I actually wondered that too and then gave up figuring them out. Im sure someone has a list somewhere on SRK of all the win quotes, but no guarantees.
  2. I think thats the air grab, right? If not, then my bad and ignore all I say XD (Im thinking it might be the flip-thing since I never knew its name…). Anyways, if its the airgrab, just reaction anti air with it.
Since youre probably actually talking about the flip, it is not safe on wakeup against anyone as far as I know (you can make it safer, but crouching normals always beat it). Just use it if you want to keep them on their toes I suppose (good rhyme right there…).

yeah its flip grab he is talking about. Kaiten Izuna is the Air grab. Bushin Izuna is the flip.

But the flip grab can grab reversal SRK’s however the timing is strict, but EX Srk’s will be it usually.

s.mp xx mk slide -> EX flip throw or EX flip throw -> EX flip throw actually throws the opponent from behind so you can’t usually just DP it.

Not really guy specific but I read a statement supposedly made by Ono that said AE wouldn’t see a console release. Can anyone confirm if that’s true?

I was excited to come back to sf4 b/c of the ae buffs to guy and makoto… specially since marvel 3 is turning out to be ass compared to 2…

Betting we wont see it for quite awhile yet it seems… they probably want to collect the payouts for the arcade cabs for a good while b4 they give people a version they don’t have to dump quarters into.

What Street Fighter game hasn’t seen a home release? Capcom love money… it makes little sense to me why they wouldn’t release Arcade Edition as DLC or another disc release for them to make more cash out of us for something we actually want, but continue to charge ridiculous prices for alternate outfits that are already on the disc (though the latest ones weren’t on the disc, so I’m cool with that I guess).

I really like Capcom, but sometimes their decisions seem so damn corporate-headed driven. I only hope people haven’t moved onto something else before the Arcade Edition update (or whatever they’re gonna call it) finally becomes available.
