I am getting ready for a tournament, is his best block string mp hp xx lp houzanto?
Or is there something better to keep the pressure up?

TC xx run/stop for keeping up pressure

I need to get the hang of that. I only can do twice at most.
In my ongoing quest to level up, I’ve identified 3 of my biggest weaknesses right now and I’d like to as you guys about:
-Option Selects
-Getting in WITHOUT Jumping
My third biggest weakness is just making adjustments mid match, not after I lose a round or match. So, what option selects do you guys use, and what are the inputs? Also, how do you guys get in without jumping?
honestly the only useful option selects are OS’ing for backdashes, and safejump OS reversal (character specific). Thats my opinion at least, i almost never option select honestly…for me its very situational
as for getting in without jumping, good luck. much of Guy’s bait game comes from something with a jump. you can run/stop to try and bait something, but its risky a lot of the time. The only things Guy really has in terms of footsies are st.mk, and safely spaced cr.hk.
those are just my opinions, if someone disagrees, oh well. i know what works for me
Unless its a counterhit and they are counter or it is done meaty and i mean it hits on the last possible frame not able to combo.
bushin flip elbow sucks. donkeydick.
However, if your opponent is in the corner there’s no reason not to use it, then? I was thinking more specifically along the lines of a crouching opponent, since (if I am remembering correctly) you can’t lp.hozanto at the end of a TC at a certain range (which may be after j.whatever > c.lk > c.lp > TC), which is usually where the slide is substituted. mk.tatsu can be canceled into at max st.mp range.
Also, RSL is only safer than mk.tatsu if you’ve got the meter to FADC it. Not that it’s a problem in the first place since you have so much time to hit confirm with Guy. At the very least it’s an alternative higher damage for ending a match.
Lately I’ve been thinking though that it might not really be in guy’s best interest to be in his opponent’s face all the time, considering his crossover and overheads are punishable on reaction.
But blah blah blah, theory fighter rambling, thanks for the response.
IMO, you want to jump around with Guy much, much more than you do with other characters. With his bushin flip he’s pretty much got four different jump arcs, all able to be canceled into elbow which is very safe assuming you can hit the ground before your opponent’s attacks can reach you. You don’t have to actually get in on your opponent WITH the jump, but use his variety of jumps and wall jumps to preoccupy your opponent so that new ways open.
As far as footsies go, c.lk and c.mp can be used pretty well defensively, this doesn’t exactly let you “get in” but ninjas must be patient.
That’s partially true, you can definitely combo off of the bushin flip elbow without it registering as a counter hit. I’ve done it on XBL (yay me) a few times, and can get it semi-consistently in training mode. However it’s a bitch to combo, it really is. The timing is REALLY strict, I have an easier time with cr. lk >> standing mp or cr. lp >> standing HP.
THIS DAMN IT, See above
Patience BAH! I had insane patience when playing Gouken, but with Guy I just wanna get in and destroy in all but like 4 matchups. People who know to lower their hitbox to escape my jumping attacks kill me. I didn’t realize that the flip elbow was safe on block, I remember always getting plowed after using it a while back. I’ll have to re-visit the frame data on this.
uhh Klutch… cr.lp > st hp… is pretty similar to cr.lp> st mp… St HP is 5 frames :x
Yeah Guy’s close HP is pretty fast (isn’t his jab 4 frames?). I like cr. LP >> MP though b/c I can hit confirm with HP, and follow up with MK Tats or Run >> Stop or Run >> Slide or LP Hoz. I’m not fast enough to consistently take the correct action off of just cr. lp >> HP yet. Maybe I’ll get there though.
I think that’s more up Rufus’ alley. With guy’s lack of 3 frame normals, slow mixup into overhead/crossover, and lack of good reversal without EX, makes it very risky to be close compared to other rushdown characters, which unfortunately is where Guy needs to be to deal his great damage. Press the advantage when you’ve got it, but remember that half of guy’s tools have nothing to do with his rushdown.
alright I dont know if ive found something new or if its going to be practical in any serious match situations. I have a feeling its more gimmickery than anything, but it may find a use. either way, here is what happened:
I did an EX Bushin flip on my opponents wakeup (Juri) and i guess i mistimed it very slightly and i didnt get the grab, i was JUST off the floor and she was able to pull of her u1 (why she did, i have no fucking clue). i immediately buffered my ultra (u2) and basically RIGHT when her ultra flash finished, mine started, i grabbed her and won.
now what im thinking is that i was somehow able to cancel the recovery frames of my bushin flip elbow into my U2. I know i was in the air when she did her flash because i saw myself beside her with my elbow out.
Any ideas guys ? I have the vid if anyone would like to see it, but i cant upload right now unless someone would be willing to record for me. If you have xbl and would like to see it, send me a message.
again, sorry if this is already known etc
questions/comments !
That would be great if you could cancel the recovery. Did you crossover?
no, it was an ex bushin flip, they dont crossover in most cases. i landed right next to her
I wanna see it!
Guy’s safe jump. How do. What characters?
One of these threads has all his safe jump set ups, you should be able to find it pretty easily with a lil effort.

i noticed that when i try to mix in short run into my target combos to get a gud mix up game and a few block strings i whiff my c. lp all the time but i see kiryu hitting his all the time and im wondering where am i messin up…also instead of (they r blocking) target, short run, c. lp can u go target, short run, standing mp??? since mp has a bigger hit box i would think it would be me reliable than c.lp
