The Guy Q&A Thread: Post your questions here!

Run slide/cr.Rh is a good escape from wakeup pressure.

Also if you can predict crossups, you can just regular dash forward to escape cross up pressure.

Does anyone have anything on the El Fuerte Match-Up? Played a really good feurte, all his normals are really good, his run mix-ups are godlike, Trying to back-dash or focus the run mix-ups are risky, and I’m pretty sure splash beats out everything I have in the air, it’s pretty ridiclous match-up for me.

Hey guys. I’ve been experimenting with Cody ever since the game started. Personally I feel he’s kinda limited on defense, but has nasty offense. The thing is he comes to a bit of a stop on Vortex/Pressure since he has no answers. Do you guys feel that guy has pretty decent wake up options? I might try him out.

Cody and Guy are relatively the same they have a weak wake up game, The only thing Cody can do is Bad Spray or EX Zonk. Guy has, EX Tatsu, EX run, Cr HK. Don’t drop your character just because he doesnt have a SRK, but Guy will take work to learn, he isn’t a walk in the park like Cody.

Im not droppin Cody. Just the thread feels dead, and no one is really doing so well, but i look at you guys and this thread is exploding with info. That’s all I’m sayin.

I noticed J.mk and elbow drop beats zangiefs latiat all the time.

I found that some combos ending in mk tatsu gives inconsistent results… Well, they’re seemingly inconsistent, but I think it has something to do with how much health your opp has. It looks like the more health he has, the more damage you output, and vice-versa. Very weird.

thats true with everything. the less hp your opponent has, the less damage each of your moves will deal.

So is there a reason for close s.lk in this game? It doesn’t chain into bushin chain in this game like Alpha 3…so what gives?

It has no purpose really… I dont even think you can cancel anything off itI never use it… Only time i press lk is for run stop, throw and cr lk.

Heck if I ever use U2 I throw that lk out as they wake up and throw out U2… idk I don’t see much usage for the move…

however whiff f mp into U2 does some wonders if you scare the opponent or bait them :stuck_out_tongue:

Is there a list of characters where the full super will not connect? Im tired of seeing those last couple hits miss on Honda and Balrog and was wondering if there are any other characters where it doesnt work. Or maybe im just doing it wrong…?

It mostly happens in the corner and depending on what you are linking it to… I usually only miss it if I cancel off FF Chain the moment RH hits in the corne… otherwise I usually always link it fully whenever I do use Super.

Im mostly referring to TC- lp hozonto- super. and FF Chain - super. Im pretty sure FF chain - super works on everyone in the corner as long as you wait for the juggle.

On Honda midscreen after target combo - lp hozonto - super, all 7 hits connect. But on FFchain - Super the last kick misses.
In the corner both combos only score 5/7 hits.

On Balrog midscreen gets 5/7 on both combos but in the corner he only gets 3/7 hits off FF Chain - Super.
These are just 2 example characters. Im sure there is more and it mostly happens on larger characters. I do use my super a lot so im probably going to go in training mode and see what works on what.

I never thought about that U2 setup using s.lk…thats good shit, i gotta try it out. Was too stuck on the fact it doesn’t chain anymore like it used to. Thanks blood

I think this is a noob question but I was just wondering what the writing on Guy’s shirt says?

Bushin

Haha really. That makes sense. Thanks

yeah throwing out cr. fp during a blockstring is a good way of catching crouchtech and getting you that counterhit. i’ve found success in throwing out cr. fp immediately after a target xx runstop for getting a counterhit, I think it might be because guy’s hitbox changes a bit when he’s doing the elbow thrust such that some cr. lk whiff on him during the cr. fp animation, allowing him to score the counterhit

elbow drop also beats chun’s ex bird kick most of the time. Im not sure of the necessary conditions and i havent tested it out.

elbow drop loses to ex bird kick if the move is done as a reversal just as guy’s elbow is about to hit. same with gief’s lariat, same with hondas ex headbutt
