I understood “fuck this tournament, fuck this game”.
Strangely, I get the “meaty” hit quite often, but I’d never been able to guarantee it (I use the b.hk c.mp lp.sb as my bnb FA2 combo). This gives me something to practice. Well spotted as usual, Gilley.
EDIT: How is it that the b.hk~f doesn’t kill your charge for the boom?
I think when he said “forward”… it is MK. So what he does is kara linking the b+hk~mk > b+hp (still charged here) > sb
Right - damned varied notation. I should have noticed the “roundhouse” prior. Cheers.
yeah gilley, i noticed yesterday when i was watching the FA follow up video that he was using p-links for the b.HK, i suck at tagging the backfist on at the end, so i now use b.HK, HP, boom as my FA follow up
I find easier to connect the backfist after a LP sonic boom for some reason…I struggle to do this when i do the HP sonic boom
LP SB recover faster
RECOVERY FRAMES
lp 29
mp 31
hp 33
I can’t even get the close HP to come out
great videos. i really need to get that st. fierce x2 down. it deals so much damage and i cant for the life of me do that b. hk c. strong into boom. how much damage does deal compared to a cr. mp into fk or boom?
i would love to ssee some videos of gilley in more matches.
or anyone against blanka, vega (claw) and elf even a vid against fei long or something. which are characters i have a lot of problems with, more so than sagat, shotos or rog, since i play against them so much.
Do you dash forward?
I get more success when not doing the kara link… it’s like it’s so new to my fingers… the timing for b+hp is a bit late… like j.hk > b+hp. don’t rush. guile’s combos are more of smooth timing… not like balrog’s mash up style…
Anyway… i’m just doing those in training mode as i don’t have FA incorporated in my game yet.
The backfist after the:
Crumple > dash > b+rh > c.mp > lp. boom
only will combo on certain chaeacters. That video, however, did reveal that you can sweep some charcaters after that combo which is VERY useful!
On a side note… that “kara linking” technically makes all 1 frame links 2 frame links… so technically, if you are trying to do the double fierce combo, if you piano hp, mp, AND lp, will that make it even easier or is there only a 1 frame window to do this stuff? Hell… could you just piano every single button below it to make every link easier?
Gilley, nice replay data… that poor Cammy got destroyed.
Hmm this is very interesting, but I stil don’t 100% get it… So what I should do to make “1 frame links 2 frame links” is by tapping MP and LP after the HP?
This could potentially be very fawking awesome. :lovin:
Anytime you need to execute a link, hit the button for the need plus the next weaker button at the same time. If you do it right for HP (by hitting HP just before MP), it’ll register as: HP, HP+MP. HP+MP will give priority to the higher one meaning it’ll register as HP again so effectively you just hit HP twice in quick succession thus giving you another opportunity to execute your link. This works for anything AFAIK, other than lp/lk since there is no lower punch or kick.
So to execute the standard:
c.lp, c.mp, fk combo where the c.lp to c.mp is a 1 frame link you do instead:
c.lp, (c.mp~c.lp), fk where c.mp~c.lp is similar to the kara throw technique where you hit c.mp just before c.lp.
What Slinkun is suggesting is to take it one step further and instead of just hitting the next weaker punch or kick, hit all the weaker punch or kicks so in the case of fp, you do fp~mp~lp in attempt of getting it to register three times so the input display would be something like:
fp
fp+mp
fp+mp+lp
Won’t work:
c.mp~c.lp = c.mp
c.hp~c.mp~c.lp = c.hp
Because of the way priority works in SFIV, multiple inputs at almost the same time yield only one result: the heaviest button. The old ST technique of piano-ing buttons and getting inputs for the press and neg-edge for each doesn’t happen in SFIV.
EDIT: I see now what you’re getting at - best bet is s.hp s.hp~s.mp which yields (if performed correctly) two s.hp inputs in 2 frames. To do what you’re thinking would look like:
f1: s.hp
f2: s.hp~s.mp
f3: s.hp~s.mp~s.lp
which is no better than
f1: s.hp
f2: s.hp~s.mp
f3: s.hp~s.mp
if I post a couple vids from my scrubby ass in a tourney, can I get some constructive criticism? should I make a thread requesting so or can I post it in here?
they really are scrubby matches though. like, i dont think I used cr. fierce once.
Don’t ask: just post.
Please post constructive criticism. I know I should have used cr. fierce in some of those situations. also mind that this tv was laggy as fuck and I muffed a few blocks, fks and booms because of it. I placed 2nd. Something I was working on pre tourney was mixing up cr. rh and cr. fwd.

after watching these vids, im kind of ashamed. I whored fk waaaayyyy too much and was not mindful of my super meter. I think I should have used normals more wisely and only saved a couple of bars for blocked fk > fadc > super. fundamentally this was terrible lol. tourney nerves and lack of practice I suppose.
Something I have been considering after watching so many vids of fuson and dagger_G is maybe in the future implementing a “two-faced” guile. fuson especially uses up close pressure with guile REALLY well, and it works for him. Contrast this to what I have been doing, playing super turbo with a long range guile. I was thinking about practicing my up close game, and staying in the opponent’s face for a while, dishing as much as I can, then when they want to go on the offensive, switch over to my turtle style. Give them different looks, y’know. opinions and comments are welcome and appreciated.
I apologize to all the good guiles with vids in this thread. i am unworthy,
Good job making it to finals. Guile is a lot of work. I like how you did keep Ken out in that one match. I I think you may have spammed d. RH a little too much. I didn’t see too many flash kicks. You did well vs. that Ken, haven’t had a chance to watch the rest of the matches. your Guile is pretty solid. If I were you, I would try to find a way no to get backed into the corner. Still I like your anticipating a lot of your air to air counters to keep out that Ken. You played very patient.
I have a lot of the same problems, I got trapped in the corner quite a lot myself. I’m trying to stay aware of my distances and working on footsies with F.FK, D.mk, f.MK, and b.MK. Your ground game is solid for sure, just need to work on your footsies more, but I think that is the case with most American Guiles outside of Cali.

Your first loser Final match vs. the Ryu player. The Ryu player made a lot of mistakes, he jump in too much for one. But I noticed a lot of time you tried to retaliate with flashkicks. This got you in trouble at a lot of points during this match. Also too much d.RH. Good thing the Ryu player didn’t punish you for them, or it could have been trouble. You like me haven’t got accustomed to d. FP. I know the last few times I played with people, I haven’t been doing the flash kick at all. Also you may a really bad mistake on round when you crossed up Ryu. you put yourself in the corner, a place you really don’t want to be. Again, the Ryu player wasn’t that solid at least from that match. Anyway, good job keeping him out. Not sure how your zoning game is. This Ryu player tried to get in your face a lot, so he made damaging him easier then it should have been.
Right, but in the first scenario, if it works, you would input the buttons in 1 quick motion where as in scenario 2, it would work more like a double tap of the p/kara link wouldn’t it?
I still can’t do the kara link consistently so I couldn’t imagine trying to add another key in there but maybe someone like Gilley can confirm if it works or not.
