The Guile Video thread

Ask in the match-ups thread for more detail, but you don’t need to punish the splash - c.hp has higher priority than Honda’s ass (hit him on the way down (practice in training mode)). If you block the ass, s.lp or jump are good options.

i entered a 50 man sf tourney on fri. had some of the best in our area.

aside from 1 match where i used honda, i used guile the whole thing.

got 2nd. will post vids asap. i need critiquing

o_o

There’s something I must not be getting about SF’s buffer system~

How did he manage to pull off an ultra right after FAing when the latter gets rid of his charge?

Guile wins in this one. Like syngin already said, cr.hp will beat the sumo-splash 100% of the time when timed right, even the EX version (same goes for dictator’s headstomp/ex headstomp). If you can’t do the cr.hp in time and have to block it, I normally jump back right after, most of the time they would try and get you with their command throw, either that or they will go for another sumo-splash right away so have your air-throw ready when you jump back.

If defensed well, no Honda should be able to beat Guile, logically speaking :stuck_out_tongue: (I do make stupid mistakes, all the time, esp when thinking I have an easy win. Keep in mind if he does land any damage on you its gonna be BIG damage.)

WTF? Anyone know why my niconico account all of a sudden doesn’t work? Did they reset all the accounts or something? I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I’ve got Firefox, which remembers all my username and password, and now my account isn’t working for some reason when it was working for months.

more Fuson

Damn, probably the best three Guile matches I’ve seen. He had to put in some work vs. that ELF. Nice

nice matches.
Couldn’t see how good that sagat was since Fuson kept him in check.
Good use of sabot to poke/fake a jump, knee into throw, & Guile’s other tools kept him from telegraphing his attacks.
el should have won that match, but EX came out instead of the Ultra twice. I have that problem too.

Does Fuson use FA much?
What do other players thinks of Guile’s FA?

Dagger_G uses it to go fishing to some degree of success.
I use it against some characters (those with difficult armour breakers).

As far as FAs go, it’s really good.

I think Guile Focus attack is pretty good, I personally use this a lot and I like to fake the focus attack by dashing back or forward depending on the situation and to bait the opponent into doing say a dragon punch on their wake up (dash back in this case).

In most cases, I usually go into the FA stance after they block a sonic boom and I am within range of hitting them.

If I have a lead on my opponent, I sometimes try to do a lvl2 FA on say a jumping HK if i have an ultra metre. This doesnt always work as players can sometimes squeeze a 2nd hit in before the focus attack comes out

there have been a lot fights where I end up doing a lvl 1 FA and then dashing forward or back, but mainly after a absorbing a fireball from just inside sweep range. I NEVER do FA’s this against sagat as he has a number of armour breaking specials

This guy uses the FA to good effect in this vid and even sets up his ultra after it after doing a lvl 2 FA on Ken’s C HK

all three players are beasts
i just had a hot hand that particular set
i dont FA too much
only in cases where i bait the opponent to jump in with deep attack for the lvl2 crumple and dash in low strong 2in1 flash kick
still working on developing a better ground based FA strategy based on 3S style “fishing” and incorporate it to my game
guile has a really good FA
decievingly good range as well

Kai is more than likely the best ELF in SoCal. Moval is probably the best Blanka too.

I never hear of any other Sagat players than Paul (SoMuchDamage), but Ironfist must be pretty good since Kai and Moval trust him to be on their team.

So yeah. Seeing Fuson beat all 3 in a row is pretty freaking impressive.

that vid is pretty fucking helpful.

i need to work on comboing st. fierces

Nothing earth shattering, but a good example of an FA follow-up.

lol was that “FUCK SIRLIN! FUCK THIS GAME!” at the beginning?

awesome, thx syngin.

noob question, how do you watch the video…it appears I have to login ?

Actually, this video is really important. It opened up my eyes a bit about this theory I had back when I had my arcade SF4. Back then, I was practicing lvl2 FA > dash > b+rh > c.strong > SB > backfist all day cause the b+rh combos after a lvl2 FA are his most damaging combos he can do(without meter). It’s really what you should be attempting to do after a FA, if it weren’t for one thing…it’s friggin hard! The 1 frame link from b+rh > c.strong is rough.

So anyways, when I was practicing those combos back in the day I noticed the b+rh > c.strong was easier to do sometimes than others. What I noticed was that the b+rh seemed to be hitting “later” in it’s animation on the times the combo was easier. I theorized at this time that the b+rh might be hitting “meaty”, which will make the next hit easier to connect.

It wasn’t until I saw this video that I put 2 and 2 together. In that video, Guile does lvl2 FA > b+rh > s.fierce (close). If you look at the frame data b+rh is +4 on hit and s.fierce (close) has 5 frames of startup. This means under normal circumstances, Guile should not be able to combo these. Meaty attacks can allow for impossible combos sometimes, and this is one of those cases. That’s what this Guile is doing in this video, he’s making the b+rh hit meaty.

So, how do you get b+rh to hit meaty after a Lvl2 FA? Back when I had my arcade unit, I would get it to hit meaty just by mashing the hell out of my roundhouse button really fast after the dash-in. But as we have recently discovered, there’s this new trick called p-link/kara linking. So I thought about trying this technique to get the b+rh to hit meaty…It works! After Guile dashes in after a lvl2/3 FA crumple, just tap b+roundhouse~forward right as Guile is coming out of his dash. This will insure that you get the b+rh the very first frame you come out of the dash. Getting that roundhouse input the instant you come out of dash is the key to getting b+rh to hit meaty and thus giving you +5 frame advantage after it. At this point it will make c.strong easy to combo. You wont even have to p-link/kara link this one if you don’t want to.

This p-link/kara link thing really really helps Guile out alot! I’m loving it :woot:
