The Guile Video thread

lol at the ending. Now that’s clutch right there. Well not much to say about the match besides the usual stuff. But my god that ending had me cracking up. Seems like some girl was cheering for you in the background. Guile the American hero and fan favorite. awesome.

You’re lucky that Ryu didn’t know how to use focus. He should have done it to every one of your cr.HKs. Guile’s cr.HK is extremely terrible in this game. I’m not sure if he has time to sweep in between the kicks or not but I know for sure he can get a focus in. I’m not sure if he can get a level 2 or not but he can just dash back after a level 1.

Does it make it a 2 frame link? or Does it only give you 2 chances of hitting the correct frame since technically it just emulates double tapping?

Hmm I think I’m beginning to understand it bit by bit, going to go try it out at the arcades today. Thanks!

Technically it doesn’t change the mechanics of the game so its still a 1 frame link but it gives you more opportunities to execute it. It gives the same effect as a double tap.

The link doesn’t work, you actually copied the link with the “…”

There you go. That’s what i’ve thought. Otherwise, if that changes the number of frames to do a link, we might see some combos that we’ve never seen before.

See Hanzako post, I was commenting on his match.

In the Vs Ryu fight, i like this Guile’s style. He was a pretty aggressive Guile as shown by dashing in after a LP sonic boom.

Eh I wouldnt dash with guile much, his dash is too long.

That Blanka really too it to him, like hard core. He had no answer for what that Blanka was doing. I think trying to be too aggressive really cost him dearly in that matchup. I think this may be like super turbo where Blanka is one of his worse matchups. Looks like you really need to be patient against Blanka, zone him and go for trades

I still dont get why they gave guile a shit fk…

I mean essenstially guile is tthe perfect characterr, he truly has mo weaknesses, but by raping the fk guile aint guile anymore.

Capcom for some reason has been on a mission to nerf anti-airs in games. For example, Charlie’s flash kick in the alpha series wasn’t as reliable of an anti-air as Guiles was in SF2. I think they’ve gradually tried to make the games newbie friendly where jump-ins are a little less punishable. I guess since they took parrying out, jump-ins have become much more safer. And now you have to depend on your normals like C.HP to really get reliable AAs.

Against Blanka it must be hell because of his jump angles. In ST you could hit him with a flash kick if he jumped too far away. Here flashkicks aren’t a threat. I’m guessing this game isn’t as brutal as ST was when it came to making mistakes like jumping. Unfortunately the fucked up thing about it is that with shotos, though their DPs trade, they all have followups and even ultras setups from the trades. Guile trade he get’s nothing. And hit stun is so bad in this game, it doesn’t reset the distance like it probably should.

I don’t get how it’s not OK for Guile to have a reliable antiair special move, but Ryu gets an invincible DP that can juggle into ultra, and Sagat gets a stand RH that leads to 60% if he has meter and “only” 30% if he doesn’t. Clearly Sagat needed it more than Guile, lol.

This is getting very tiresome; in fact, I’m not even sure why I’m replying.

Guile’s FK is very good. Almost as good as Ryu’s DP. It’s not character design that’s letting you down, it’s a lack of knowledge regarding how to use the FK effectively. I’ve said it before: 80% of the roster cannot jump in with ANYTHING when facing a Guile with down charge IF the Guile player knows WHEN to execute the FK. On top of which, Guile has awesome normals for both AA and ground work. Not one of the Shoto players I take on in the arcade jump when I have down charge and most won’t risk it if I don’t.

Even though I only play online, Guile is definitely one of the characters that I have to choose my jumps very carefully against. Air Throw, Flash Kick, c. FP, s. FP, s. MK all work really well against jump ins.

Guile was my first character in SF4 and after only using him since console release, I’m having some trouble using other characters AA’s. I think I was spoiled with Guile’s plethora of options in dispatching jumpy opponents.

good example of using flash kick as AA (late flash kick).

You can’t flash kick them when they’re crossing you up. I make that mistake every now and then because in SFII, you could get them even if they’re behind you.

I know the nicovideo version was posted before, but I think this match deserves a 2nd post.

Guile vs Sagat

I’m not a Guile player but I see the work put into this match and it was amazing to watch. 5 minutes of solid play…the hardest working matches I’ve ever seen.
