Here is another combo video. Lots of it you have probably seen before from Gilley but there were some new ones I haven’t seen before. Damage is awful, but very flashy.
OK, now i know how to view videos and all this noise, but I’m really clueless as how to navigate and find videos on nicovideo. Curious as I participated in an intermediate team tourney at TRF this saturday and wanted to check out my matches.
I use this search string ???IV which is SF4 in Japanese (I think).
Here is the 2on2 tourney Slinkun mentioned:
4:30 vs Boxer
0:00 Tekeretsu vs Akuma
next fight vs Ryu
0:00 Guile mirror Tekeretsu vs Slinkun
next fight Slinkun vs Rufus
5:30 Hiro vs Honda
5:30 Tekeretsu vs Fuerte
9:00 Tekeretsu vs Sagat
17:35 Tekeretsu vs Boxer
7:50 Tekeretsu vs Dictator
16:30 Tekeretsu vs Rufus (his partner?)
I know Guile’s ultra isn’t great, but there were quite a few times Tekeretsu had the charge and could have punished with it but instead he goes with c.lp, s.lp, s.lp, s.hp and he missed the last link quite a few times.
TRF 2-19
1:25 Yoshio vs Ryu
15:50 Yoshio vs Tekeretsu
9:15 Yoshio vs Ken
18:40 Yoshio vs Ken
yeah slinkun vs rufus at 4:47 in the team Republican fight
great match slinkun,
final round 3:18-3:23 amazing execution on focusing through the booms to get him to the corner that ultimately got you the opportunity to get the jumpin combo to super
I found an option select which could be used against rufus dive kick games+Throw games.
C.Lp+C.Lk+C.Hp
Basically what it does is either Tech hit or beat out dive kick with crouching fierce, if they do nothing, crouching fierce will come out and most likely nothing will happen afterwards.
The risk of using the option select is when Rufus gets a counter hit in on you or random ex messiah (Rufus has to guess)
I’ve tested it against Ricky and other Rufus players out there and it’s been working pretty well…and like…I’d rather get random ex messiahed then get locked down by dive kick games all day
I’m not so sure if C.Lp+C.Lk+C.Mp works against Rufus, but if anyone wants to utilize this somehow, please let us know if it’s any useful, thanks!
Well in any case, I feel that the matchup is now 5-5 for me since I’m no longer panicking with this tool. Hope it works for you guys too

(vs. ryu)

(vs. boxer)
Good shit lamerboi. I actually mentioned this very thing yesterday in the matchup thread and was curious how well it would work. Good to know!
Thanks for posting those nico matches! Realistically, I was being pretty reckless with the whole “focus him into the corner” thing and it shouldn’t have paid off so well… I’m a focus whore though. All about the high risk / high reward of it all. That was a great match against that rufus player. At the end when I ate his j.hk > ultra I was thinking “jump up and air throw, he will j.hk” but for whatever reason decided against it. Darn.
Nice find man. I only have access to online play so I don’t really see many Rufus players but I’ll make sure to use this the next time I do. Good shit man.
Nice matches. You were hitting the C.LP>C.LP>C.LP>C.MP>Flash Kick combo like it was a 3 frame link in the match with Rog. I love to see good Guile play so well done sir. I hate that Rog match up. His quick jabs and straights annoy the hell out of me, and most Rog’s online turtle which makes the job that much harder. GG’s man.
Ya, I’ve mentioned this before, but if you plink c.mp~c.lp a bit early you will either hit the c.mp link or just chain another jab and your flashkick won’t cancel. In any match where you see me get in and follow up with c.lk > c.lp > c.lp > nothing > boom, that’s me missing the link. Personally, I’m not a big fan of either c.lp > s.lp > c.mp xx boom or c.lp > s.lp > s.hp due to the lack of damage and inability to combo on most of the cast if they crouch. I always go for the flashkick combo because it’s universal on everyone, decent to good damage (depending on op’s hitbox), a knockdown, but most importantly, threat.
If I’m playing a guile mirror against a “rush down” guile who can’t do this flashkick combo, I think it’s real giggle worthy. If he lands a crossup j.lk, what’s the worst he can do? I just patiently wait to tech a throw because I know that’s the only way for him to get any damage from the situation… bar maybe a s.hp counterhit. Ok, so I’ll either wait to tech or mash on backdash. Either way, I win and he escapes with a 4 hit combo of chained light attacks.
Hopefully they have indeed made flashkick easier to link off of c.lp’s as we’re all guessing from that one SSF4 video so EVERYONE will be able to create pressure with guile… not just people who entered a hyperbolic time chamber to practice a single link. (I had nothing to do on a 2 month deployment, so sue me.)
Rush down Guile only works on ignornat opponents who have no idea how to punish him. Guile will NOT be rushing down Dudley, so you may as well stick with the game plan. Offensive Guile is possible, but not rushdown Guile. Offense isn’t totally synonymous with rushdown. Basically, Guile just can’t safely walk forward and attack without totally getting murdered by a smart opponent. you can play him offensively by zoning in an offensive manner. It’s still going to be reaction based either way it goes.
you did good slinkun. Although losing to Rufus they way you did is considered “a kick in the quad” especially when the match was a close one. A qoute i got from mass effect 2.
I’ve tried the crossup lk > cr.lk > cr.lp > cr.mp > lk.fk combo on crouching Sakuras. There’s been at least two accounts where the fk whiffs… perhaps it’s due to her small dinky hitbox when crouching. Then again, should be using hk.fk, but it’s habit to use lk.fk since I won’t be 5 years in the air for punish if I whiff.
I’ll just be 2 years in the air instead. :lame:
Right. I’m very familiar with the plinking method so I know exactly what you are talking about. Sometimes I get C.Lp x2>Flash kick too.
Heh, I don’t play console, so you may be right about the sakura thing. It’s probably worth it to use it with hk flashkick on a regular basis though… if your playing an opponent who can’t punish an lk flashkick then I doubt you even NEED to do combos.
off topic: <3 Mass Effect, but I felt the sequel wasn’t as good. Can’t wait for three!
make sure you preserve your save game once ME3 comes out.
down in melbourne thursday night tournaments are held fortnightly, and there are more Akuma’s than ever before. I keep getting a final 8 finish before falling over in the qtr finals either in the winners or losers bracket. BTW I am pretty much the only Guile player there during tournament nights
Akuma can suck my balls. Knockdown is almost equal to game over due to all those dangerous mixups. IF you gain a life lead without getting knocked over, i find that it is much easier afterwards. I always lose to Akuma every time i got to the qtr finals
So many sagat and Akuma, and boxer players at the tourneys i go to. surprisingly this exceeds the number of Ryu players. All are solid players , but probably not at Japs level like I experienced at Shinjuku Sportsland back in December last year.
Hey Hoppa, how does your Boxer do against Akuma?
I dont get eaten up by cross ups as often, The EX rush upper cut or even the normal version helps escape his mixups. Ironically, I do better when using boxer as landing a C LP will lead into a combo ending with an ultra. All it takes is one stupid mistake on akuma’s part and a couple of meaty hits and he is almost dead.
I still find him to be extremely annoying though, and find that Akuma players are less inclined to rush you down as they would to Guile even if they knock you over. Once he has ultra and I have a life lead, I try and keep the fight at ground level. I dont burn EX bars unless i am within sweep range.
i noted that when i have more than 2 EX bars, Akuma players i played are shit scared to use demon flip > dive kick (used for offensive mixups and wake up) given EX moves arre very effect against this tool.
Guiles flash kick loses out to the dive kick, which reinforces how shithouse the flash kick is. FA’ed the dive kick is what i do more often if i see it early (when using Guile). A Good way to get a free crumple and combo
Other than that, the runaway akumas are what i play against most times as they are more worried about what happens when I fight up close and personal.
EXACTLY.
The main reason why playing guile online makes me pull my hair out
Playing online is really annoying. Today I played some Sagat who had close to 70,000 GP’s in Championship mode. In the final round I had his ass beat. He had about 8% health and I had about 30%… So I get up close to him to get some pressure and finish his ass off and the game fucking lags and I get DP>GodKick>Ultra’d… Now aint that some shit. That match was a clear example of 1) online being bad and 2) another Sagat who got off the hook becasue he’s Sagat. And on that note, I can’t wait for Super to come out.
