The Guile Video thread

Here is a vid of me at a local tournament yesterday. I did pretty well, I ended up breaking into top 8, which is hard at this particular tournament, because it brings some of the best players in GA and Tennessee. You criticism would be much appreciate:

Imo you played too aggressively and wasted alot of meter guile Vs boxer match-up isn’t bad at all for guile ,guile can lame boxer out very easily all you need is st.hp and sonic boom st.hp beats all his dash punches cleanly and stuffs most of his normals on startup.By wasting meter i mean you just threw out ex sonic booms from full screen all the time but in the boxer match-up you want to save those for ex dash punches to punish them. st.hp punished all other dash punches throw booms from full screen mixing of the speeds to keep him on his toes when he jumps unsafely AA him when he uses ex dash punch to get in ex sonic boom and backhand to get his guard up and keep him out. your style might not be super turtle ultra defensive zoning footsie game but it works with guile.

grats on top 8, that looked like a fairly large tournament. try not back yourself into the corner, guile is really vunerable against rog when his back is against the wall like that. Especially against rogs with good reaction, they will sit at sweep distance and ruin guile.

mix in focus. i think this rog noticed that you never used focus because he didnt go for a swing upper (w/e its called) once. Mixing it focus will make rog think twice about random sweeps and jab straights, but do not over use focus

Fight I had against an elf… horrible, horrible things happened to me…

Dash like insane and hope for the best. There is nothing Guile has that beats Elf on Guiles wake-up. Great match…until you got knocked down. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah. Fuerte is a real pain for Guile. Once he knocked you down you were at a huge disadvantage. That Feurte seems like he was pretty solid though. Unfortunatley I think ELF is getting buffed on SSF4 too so we will all probably see more Fuerte’s in the near future.

Isn’t there any tip to know what Elf will do next on wake up? Like if he run backward before jumping, he always grab or something?
I think I’ve read something like that long ago on this forum.

Personnally I’m using only 2 kinds of wake up in this situation :

  • Focus attack
  • Backdash

Note that I’m not an Elf matchup expert so I might be wrong.

If he runs back, he has like 3 options (could be more)

  1. splash
  2. hurricana
  3. slide

I was always expecting him to do 1 or 3 since I (somewhat) know how to deal with that. But it’s the hurricana move that hurts me most since it’s a command grab and you can’t reaaaaallly get out of it.

I need to try that backdash thing. I’ll give it a go the next time I see and ELF. If and when I see and ELF. =P

Hi chowwun.

Saw ur clip, u played well! I used to make the same mistake like u did. cr.mp and get punish.
elf player will do the drop to punish
most of time I focus dash, when they land, s.hk for the poke kick. or focus all the way for lvl 2 counter.

Can I ask what u did to escape the grab? after a few round, they know I will focus, they move in for a grab…but u escape very well.
is that a tap tap dash?

yeah definitely never jump at Fuerte when he has ultra or neutral jump in corner

I assume that you were referring to the Ultra in the second round. His ultra was just poorly timed. I got a lp in before jumping back. Had it been a tad earlier I would’ve been hit by it.
If you’re talking about the throw attempts, for me, it’s almost anticipating when they’d throw. After playing a while, you will get the feeling of when people like to throw. And partially, I do the crouch option select tech throw. I’m not entirely good at it yet, I feel myself do it too early so I get thrown sometimes. -_-"

BTW, “tap tap dash?”

Yeah, I shouldn’t have jumped when ELF has ultra, or at least jump at him so that his AA ultra hits. sigh… it’s all a learning experience I suppose.

Now that I look at it, maybe I should’ve gone to full screen keep away game. I don’t think ELF has wakeup options (or many), but I don’t play him so I don’t know for sure.

I treat Fuerte and Boxer the same way on knock-down: get up close to them and target combo or some-such. Fuerte’s only options are block or gtfo (guacamole slew) if he doesn’t have ultra - anything else is too dangerous if you aren’t predictable.

I guess I was doing the right thing… until I got knocked down. lol.

But Boxer does have his (EX) headbutt… but that’s easily baitable.

heres some vids from the House of Cicada 3v3 this past weekend
