The Guile Video thread

Yeah, you do a safe-ish jump with hk and buffer in an srk - if they try anything which would cause the hk to whiff, the srk comes out.

c.mp>s.hp combo at 1:41 is it character specific

so cr. jab and cr. strong as gief is waking up is a way to give him trouble eh?

time to start mixing it up. does this only work if he tries spd or does this shut down wakeup lariats too?

c.mp is only +2 on hit, so I think that combo only worked because the mp was a counter hit, but I don’t know how much extra hit stun that ads to an attack. I hadn’t seen counterhit c.mp>s.hp before, but that’s pretty nice for when you are ducking but don’t have charge.

Lamed out a win in the first round of the Newegg Wanfest tournament,
both matches went down to last round, some silly play on my part at times, definitely need to stop using ex-fk as a punish and save the meter

I wonder if I could have done ultra at 2:45 of the 2nd game, I was thinking he would have recovered

Counter-hit:
+1f (light)
+3f (med-hvy)
+3f (special)
+25% dmg

Searched the thread and didn’t see these videos posted

Good crowd reaction in some of matches, Great use of ultra to take care of Sagat’s jump-in relax and overall great use of ultra, without a doubt a much better player than myself, but we both share tendency of unsafe booms at times

Pretty exciting 2v2 fight here, more so the final battle where it’s Guile vs. Gief.

I can see why no-one posted those videos. Very average play.

Commentary on this is awesome

Here’s a couple from a few days ago.

You’re right about the camera man

Looked to me like you really let that Boxer get into your head - that dude ran the show. Personally, if I’m up against a Boxer (or anyone, really) that wants to sit back looking for options, I’ll stay at full screen and boom the shit out of it. Seemed like he took damage from you based on your effort to break his defence; why not reverse the situation and make him do the work?

I played against way better players than these guys…the sagat player was pretty ordinary.

noooooo he suffered the same fate as i did

And one question that I’ve been curious about: Why am I seeing this combo link nowadays? c.lk, s.lp, c.mp > sonic boom Is it easier to pull off one frame links like this? Sorry, was banned from SRK forums for awhile (acting lame in fighting game discussion thread), so I was unable to keep up to date with anything xD.

short answer to your question is yes. Doing C LK > C LP > C MP is not exactly watertight, as guys like Sagat and Ryu can SRK between the C LP > C MP.

But i have a habit of not letting go of my down-back charge so i find myself using the C LK > C LP > C MP quite often.

c.lk, s.lp, c.mp > sonic boom is much easier, since the s.lp to c.mp is a 2-frame link, while c.lp to c.mp is a 1-framer. Problem is that the s.lp will whiff on the 2nd hit against crouching opponents.

The link between s.lp and c.mp is no more watertight than c.lp > c.mp. It is, however, a 2 frame link, which is why there are people who use it.

Frankly, I don’t see the point. No one cares if they get hit by a 5 hit combo consisting of 4 light attacks and a scaled weak ass boom. My advice is to learn how to plink profeciently and stick with c.lp > c.mp xx flashkick. Sure, the flashkick doesn’t sweetspot on half the cast, but it still works on everyone, all the time, scores you a knockdown and more damage.

Edit: @Syngin

You are spot on sir. My number one issue is that I’m too aggressive. I know, it’s bad, but I play pretty high risk. I go for the crossups, go for constant frame traps, and usually get into trouble for it. At a high level up play that just doesn’t work, but MAN can it destroy some players. I like to think my execution is pretty spot on, so I go for the tricky combos as much as I can.

I’m playing the wrong character. Ha!

^ if some one lands this in a match it will be madness

ah, the abel vid was loads of help. i feel like abel is the ultimate counter guile character.

He’s got godlike execution imo. I’ve been following his youtube page for a while now and he lands those fadc combos in the corner with ease. Some people just have the knack you know?
